System Response Kernel Calculation for List-mode Reconstruction in Strip PET Detector

Reconstruction of the image in Positron Emission Tomographs (PET) requires the knowledge of the system response kernel which describes the contribution of each pixel (voxel) to each tube of response (TOR). This is especially important in list-mode reconstruction systems, where an efficient analytical approximation of such function is required. Call for a corporate social conscience index

This repository item contains a single issue of Issues in Brief, a series of policy briefs that began publishing in 2008 by the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become a widely used term to describe how large companies adopt practices and policies that curb the potential negative impacts their operations can have on the surrounding environment and the community in which they are based. But companies’ claims of CSR behavior can be difficult to verify. This brief calls for the development of a “Corporate Social Conscience Index” as a mechanism for exerting some degree of transparency and accountability for CSR programs of large multinational companies. The author argues that by developing an index that provides insights to corporations’ excessive, unproductive spending as well as their activities related to environmental sustainability, job creation, and supply chain transparency, consumers along with policy makers, employees and researchers would be able determine whether a corporation is truly practicing corporate social responsibility and pressure more corporations to adopt meaningful CSR programs

Identifying Validity in Qualitative Research: A Literature Review

This paper explores multiple articles relating to qualitative research. Qualitative research has seen several transformation that aim to support contributions for this research development. As research, using a qualitative methodology rises to prevalence, this paper explores industry and academia use of this methodology. The paper review research based in the field of healthcare and social work. After analysis, the review of literature shows that a majority qualitative research are within the field healthcare (Johnson, 1999). The research conducted embraces a diverse collection of approaches to inquiry intended to generate knowledge actually grounded in human experience. The literature review also addressed “rigor” as a standard for valid research, and the impending presumption for flexibility as called for by pundits against qualitative research paradigm. It was argued that this call for rigidity could threaten the innovativeness and hence the meaning and quality of a qualitative research. The author then review and describe the concept of validity to a qualitative research paradigm and how it is applied as discussed by Creswell (2013). Using the iPad Application IXL and Its Effects on FAST Assessment Scores

The purpose of this action research study was to determine the effectiveness of using the iPad application IXL during math rotations in the transitional kindergarten classroom and the outcomes of the FAST assessment composite scores. The researcher conducted the study over eight weeks in a transitional kindergarten in Northwest Iowa. Nine students participated eight-ten minutes two-three times a week. The researcher collected quantitative data through the IXL program along with FAST test scores. Results suggest that the use of IXL program advances transitional kindergarten FAST composite scores

Successfully planning and implementing peer-to-peer lecture films – “Making of”

[EN] Videos implemented in higher education are widely used by students and provide an audio and visual stimulus covering different learning methodologies. Lecture videos that are analogous to the desired learning outcomes of the lecture are considered a reinforcement. These videos covering scientific background on short sequences need to be of a certain standard to gain students` interest and become a fully accepted learning material. Since summer 2015 lecture videos are implemented in “inverted classroom” teaching scenarios to teach material science to first year students studying mechanical and automotive engineering at HTW Berlin. These videos were initially inspired by students resulting in the conduction of a set of lecture videos during a one term semester project each semester. The “making-of” is supervised by lecturers and film experts (peer-to-peer approach). The peer-to-peer approach is an important aspect because students` needs and their perspective on teaching material is included directly in the videos. Because we were asked many times: what does it take to prepare successful peer-to-peer lecture films this paper practically contributes to those who are thinking about producing lecture videos and implementing these in face-to-face lectures or online/blended learning scenarios.http://ocs.editorial.upv.es/index.php/HEAD/HEAD18Pfennig, A.; Maier-Rothe, J.
