In this paper mathematical models for heat transfer with melting or solidification are considered . These models are variants of the well-known Stefan's problem which are of considerable interest in many fields as metal casting, nuclear reactor safety, purificación of materials, et

Classrooms Without Closets: LGBTIQ+ Cinema in University Education

    Get PDF
From September 2017 to June 2020 the University of the Balearic Islands organised a monthly film workshop called Aules Sense Armaris: Cinema LGBTIQ+ a la UIB focused on giving visibility to affective and sexual diversity through film analysis in a university context. Each film was introduced with an interview with a queer activist or cultural expert related to the particular topics the film addressed, and after the screening a cinematographic and critical discussion was held in which the students contributed either with their own reflections or asking questions to the guests. This article exposes the necessity of approaching and celebrating sexual diversity from the university classroom as a form of activism. It also describes the as well as describing the criteria that were followed when choosing the films, how the monthly workshops took place and the most interesting conclusions from the post-film debates between activists, university students and spectators

Numerical simulation of gas composition tracking in a gas transportation network

In previous papers of the authors, a new formulation for isothermal flow of gas mixtures with given constant composition in a transportation network including usual devices has been introduced and solved. However, in real networks, different gas qualities are introduced from different entry points. In this case, it is important to track the quality along the network over time and therefore a multi-species model has to be used. The main objective of the present paper is to introduce a model allowing us to simulate the evolution of the gas composition, at each point in the network and over time, and then to couple it with the flow model. The model for tracking the gas composition consists of a system of first order partial differential equations, one per pipe and per species, which are coupled together at the nodes by imposing the mass conservation equation for each species. It is important to notice that the coupling condition at the nodes guarantees that the numerical scheme conserves the mass of each species along the time. In order to validate the overall methodology, it is applied to a test case on a real network. Numerical results show good agreement with measurementsThe first author has been partially supported by ERDF and Xunta de Galicia (Spain) under grant ED431C 2021/15 and by Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (Spain) and ERDF under research project MTM2017-86459-RS

Metodos de elementos finitos y de características para la simulación de la convección natural

    Get PDF
Natural convection of air in a square cavity: a benchmark numerical solution. Internat. J. Numer. Methods Fluids, 3:249–64, 1983

Daily and annual variations in acetylene-reducing activity (ARA) and nitrogen input through litterfall in an Elaeagnus angustifolia stand near Madrid were determined. Maximum ARA was found at 6 a.m. and in September for daily and monthly measurements, respectively.

Discursive rewriting of terrorism in contemporary Spanish cinema: Ocho apellidos vascos (2014) and La revolución de los ángeles (2014)

The year 2014 saw the release of two films on the topic of terrorism from a perspective not yet adopted in Spanish fictional works: the comedy Ocho apellidos vascos, by Emilio Martínez-Lázaro, and La revolución de los ángeles, the social drama depicting the terrorist as a social activist, by Javier Silvestre, Oriol Clavell and Marc Barbena. This article explores the ways in which both approaches move away from more traditional forms of representing terrorism, such as the thriller or the emotional tribute to the victims, and to what extent the success of both films is a result of their unique perspectives on the question of terrorism.
