    Program logics for homogeneous meta-programming.

    A meta-program is a program that generates or manipulates another program; in homogeneous meta-programming, a program may generate new parts of, or manipulate, itself. Meta-programming has been used extensively since macros were introduced to Lisp, yet we have little idea how formally to reason about metaprograms. This paper provides the first program logics for homogeneous metaprogramming – using a variant of MiniMLe by Davies and Pfenning as underlying meta-programming language.We show the applicability of our approach by reasoning about example meta-programs from the literature. We also demonstrate that our logics are relatively complete in the sense of Cook, enable the inductive derivation of characteristic formulae, and exactly capture the observational properties induced by the operational semantics

    Management of gastrointestinal failure in the adult critical care setting.

    Gastrointestinal failure is a polymorphic syndrome with multiple causes. Managing the different situations from a practical, metabolic, and nutritional point of view is challenging, which the present review will try to address. Acute gastrointestinal injury (AGI) has been defined and has evolved into a concept of gastrointestinal dysfunction score (GIDS) built on the model of Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, and ranging from 0 (no risk) to 4 (life threatening). But there is yet no specific, reliable and reproducible, biomarker linked to it. Evaluating the risk with the Nutrition Risk Screening (NRS) score is the first step whenever addressing nutrition therapy. Depending on the severity of the gastrointestinal failure and its clinical manifestations, nutritional management needs to be individualized but always including prevention of undernutrition and dehydration, and administration of target essential micronutrients. The use of fibers in enteral feeding solutions has gained acceptance and is even recommended based on microbiome findings. Parenteral nutrition whether alone or combined to enteral feeding is indicated whenever the intestine is unable to process the needs. The heterogeneity of gastrointestinal insufficiency precludes a uniform nutritional management of all critically ill patients but justifies its early detection and the implementation of individualized care

    Use of W-Boson Longitudinal-Transverse Interference in Top Quark Spin-Correlation Functions: II

    This continuation of the derivation of general beam-referenced stage-two spin-correlation functions is for the analysis of top-antitop pair-production at the Tevatron and at the Large Hadron Collider. Both the gluon-production and the quark-production contributions are included for the charged-lepton-plus-jets reaction p p or p bar{p} --> t bar{t} --> (W^+ b)(W^- bar{b}) --> (l^{+} nu b)(W^- bar{b}). There is a simple 4-angle beam-referenced spin-correlation function for determination of the relative sign of, or for measurement of a possible non-trivial phase between the two dominant helicity amplitudes for t --> W^{+} b decay. There is an analogous function and tests for bar{t} --> W^{-} bar{b} decay. This signature requires use of the (t bar{t}) c.m.-energy of the hadronically decaying W-boson, or the kinematically equivalent cosine of the polar-angle of W-boson emission in the anti-top (top) decay frame. Spinors and their outer-products are constructed so that the helicity-amplitude phase convention of Jacob & Wick can be used throughout for the fixing of the signs associated with this large W-boson longitudinal-transverse interference effect.Comment: Continuation of hep-ph/0506240 to include gluon-production contribution; 3 "postscript" figures.     Electromagnetic proton form factors in large NcN_{c} QCD

    The electromagnetic form factors of the proton are obtained using a particular realization of QCD in the large NcN_c limit (QCD{QCD}_{\infty}), which sums up the infinite number of zero-width resonances to yield an Euler's Beta function (Dual-QCD{QCD}_{\infty}). The form factors F1(q2)F_1(q^2) and F2(q2)F_2(q^2), as well as GM(q2)G_M(q^2) agree very well with reanalyzed space-like data in the whole range of momentum transfer. In addition, the predicted ratio μpGE/GM\mu_p G_E/G_M is in good agreement with recent polarization transfer measurements at Jefferson Lab.Comment: 10 page

    We determine all inhomogeneous Yang-Mills algebras and super Yang-Mills algebras which are Koszul. Following a recent proposal, a non-homogeneous algebra is said to be Koszul if the homogeneous part is Koszul and if the PBW property holds.     The Williams Scale of Attitude toward Paganism: development and application among British Pagans

    This article builds on the tradition of attitudinal measures of religiosity established by Leslie Francis and colleagues with the Francis Scale of Attitude toward Christianity (and reflected in the Sahin-Francis Scale of Attitude toward Islam, the Katz-Francis Scale of Attitude toward Judaism, and the Santosh-Francis Scale of Attitude toward Hinduism) by introducing a new measure to assess the attitudinal disposition of Pagans. A battery of items was completed by 75 members of a Pagan Summer Camp. These items were reduced to produce a 21-item scale that measured aspects of Paganism concerned with: the God/Goddess, worshipping, prayer, and coven. The scale recorded an alpha coefficient of 0.93. Construct validity of the Williams Scale of Attitude toward Paganism was demonstrated by the clear association with measures of participation in private rituals

    Supersymmetric effects in top quark decay into polarized W-boson

    We investigate the one-loop supersymmetric QCD (SUSY-QCD) and electroweak (SUSY-EW) corrections to the top quark decay into a b-quark and a longitudinal or transverse W-boson. The corrections are presented in terms of the longitudinal ratio \Gamma(t-->W_L b)/\Gamma(t--> W b) and the transverse ratio \Gamma(t-->W_- b)/\Gamma(t--> W b). In most of the parameter space, both SUSY-QCD and SUSY-EW corrections to these ratios are found to be less than 1% in magnitude and they tend to have opposite signs. The corrections to the total width \Gamma(t-->W b) are also presented for comparison with the existing results in the literature. We find that our SUSY-EW corrections to the total width differ significantly from previous studies: the previous studies give a large correction of more than 10% in magnitude for a large part of the parameter space while our results reach only few percent at most.Comment: Version in PRD (explanation and refs added

    Probing the Ground State and Transition Densities of Halo Nuclei

    We investigate the use of elastic and inelastic scatterings with secondary beams of radioactive nuclei as a mean to obtain information on ground state properties and transition matrix elements to continuum states. An eikonal model is developed for this purpose by using the folding potential.
