Accounting for the preference for literal meanings in autism spectrum conditions

Pragmatic difficulties are considered a hallmark of autism spectrum conditions (ASC), but remain poorly understood. We discuss and evaluate existing hypotheses regarding the literalism of ASC individuals, that is, their tendency for literal interpretations of non-literal communicative intentions. We present evidence that reveals a developmental stage at which neurotypical children also have a tendency for literalism and suggest an explanation for such behaviour that links it to other behavioural, rule-following, patterns typical of that age. We discuss evidence showing that strict adherence to rules is also widespread in ASC, and suggest that literalism might be linked to such rule-following behaviour.This paper is part of a project that has received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Grant agreement No. 853211). La construcción sociohistórica de la formatividad. Prácticas, discursos, sistemas

Formativity is the new construct which characterizes the European Treaty on Formative Science. It will lay down the theoretical, pragmatic and normative foundations in the field of education, according to an international and multidisciplinary view. Within such context, this contribution offers a new perspective towards the understanding and the interpretation of formativity, meant as a cultural construction. Ethnohistory of the School. Representations of Modernity

This study analyses and discusses the historiographic construct “modernity” and the problem of its representations and their readings and interpretations. It examines the question based on two exemplifications, with the aid of iconographic sources, attributing to them the function of mimesis of the empirical culture of the school: a) the universal exhibitions (modernity as performance); b) the ambivalences of the modern (dialectical understanding of modernity). It concludes with an attempt at a synthetic closure of a hermeneutic character

La escuela como construcción cultural

El trabajo que aquí se expone se propone glosar los cambios, hasta hace poco emergentes, pero ya dominantes, que se afirman en la nueva historiografía de la educación, en el subcampo académico de la llamada cultura de la escuela, considerada ésta como construcción sociohistórica y como campo epistémico. De esta manera, nuestra contribución se acomodará, al menos en la intención, a las “nuevas preguntas y miradas sobre la historia de la educación” que plantea este monográfico de la revista Espacios en Blanco. A lo largo de las dos últimas décadas, bajo el influjo de las diversas corrientes que han venido configurando la nueva historia cultural (o sociocultural, si se prefiere esta expresión), la historiografía de la educación se ha visto inmersa en un giro investigativo y epistémico que ha agudizado la crisis que ya se venía apuntando desde los observatorios de la posmodernidad en los paradigmas clásicos de construcción del conocimiento histórico, y aun también en los modernos. Este cambio está abocando a la afirmación de nuevos modos de producción intelectual que aproximan las prácticas historiográficas, así como los discursos que subyacen en éllas, a los enfoques etnológicos y hermenéuticos que igualmente están presentes hoy en muchos otros sectores de las ciencias humanas y sociales

La educación en las Exposiciones Universales

Las Exposiciones Universales constituyen un ámbito de estudio de algo valor testimonial para los historiadores de la cultura empírica de la escuela. En ellas cobraron publicidad las primeras representaciones del mundo contemporáneo y muchas de estas imágenes pasaron a los libros escolares, a los carteles murales de las aulas, a los programas de las instituciones educativas, a los museos pedagógicos, etc. Este repertorio configurado por textos, iconos y realidades fundó un imaginario, una cultura. Además, las Exposiciones Universales abrieron espacios para acoger y exhibir las invenciones que instrumentalizaron los primeros modos de producción escolar, desarrollados en paralelo con el origen de los sistemas nacionales de educación. En este artículo se reflexiona sobre las diferentes funciones que cubrieron las Exposiciones Universales dentro del mundo educativo y su valor para la historiografía educativaTo the historians of school empirical culture, Universal Exhibitions have high testimonial value like area of study. They shown the first performances of contemporary world, many of these images came from school textbooks, classroom wall posters, programs of educational institutions, educational museums, etc.. This set of textbooks, icons, and realities founded an imaginary, a culture. In addition, the Universal Exhibitions opened spaces to receive and exhibit inventions in order to capitalize on the first school production methods. They were developed in parallel with the origin of national education systems.
