    Rechner zur Steuerung von industriellen Prozessen und zugehörige geeignete Datenübertragungssysteme sind seit vielen Jahren erfolgreich im Einsatz. In jüngster Zeit kommen zur Steuerung räumlich getrennter und weit auseinanderliegender Prozesse aus wirtschaftlichen Gründen zunehmend Bussysteme mit serieller Datenübertragung zur Anwendung. Im PDV-Arbeitskreis TP 30 wurde ein Prozeßdatenübertragungssystem entworfen, das für alle industriellen Anwendungen geeignet erscheint, bei denen große Entfernungenzu überbrücken sind, Echtzeitbedingungen einzuhalten sind und hohe Betriebssicherheit wichtiger ist als hohe übertragungsraten /1/.Bei der Festlegung einer Leitungsstruktur spielen hohe Betriebssicherheit und die Notwendigkeit einer leistungsfähigen Alarmerkennung eine ausschlaggebende Rolle. Eine hohe Betriebssicherheit wird u. a. erreicht, wenn eine von keinem Signalverstärker unterbrochene Leitung, d. h. eine bidirektionale Leitung, verwendet wird. Wird diese Leitung an der aktiven Steuerstation zu einemRing geschlossen, besteht die Möglichkeit, Leitungsunterbrechungen zu erkennen und die Nachricht auf Übertragungsfehler zu überprüfen. Eine mögliche Systemvariante liegt in der Verwendung von zwei getrennten Leitungen (siehe Abb. 0-1). Dabei dient die eine Leitung der Übertragung von Nachrichten (Steuerstation- Unterstation- Steuerstation), die andere der Übertragung von Antworten (Unterstation - Steuerstation) und Alarmmeldungen, wodurch insbesondere eine effektive Alarmbehandlung ermöglichtwird. Darüber hinaus bietet eine Doppelleitung Vorteile für rückwirkungsfreie Ankopplungen über Transformatoren. Als Systemvariante für größere Entfernungen wird eine Unidirektionale Einfachringleitung empfohlen, die durch das Einschalten von Bussignalregeneratorenrealisiert werden kann - eine Maßnahme, die für große Entfernun~en erforderlich wird (s.     Rapid contemporary evolution and clonal food web dynamics

    Character evolution that affects ecological community interactions often occurs contemporaneously with temporal changes in population size, potentially altering the very nature of those dynamics. Such eco-evolutionary processes may be most readily explored in systems with short generations and simple genetics. Asexual and cyclically parthenogenetic organisms such as microalgae, cladocerans, and rotifers, which frequently dominate freshwater plankton communities, meet these requirements. Multiple clonal lines can coexist within each species over extended periods, until either fixation occurs or a sexual phase reshuffles the genetic material. When clones differ in traits affecting interspecific interactions, within-species clonal dynamics can have major effects on the population dynamics. We first consider a simple predator-prey system with two prey genotypes, parameterized with data on a well-studied experimental system, and explore how the extent of differences in defense against predation within the prey population determine dynamic stability versus instability of the system. We then explore how increased potential for evolution affects the community dynamics in a more general community model with multiple predator and multiple prey genotypes. These examples illustrate how microevolutionary "details" that enhance or limit the potential for heritable phenotypic change can have significant effects on contemporaneous community-level dynamics and the persistence and coexistence of species.Comment: 30 pages, 6 Figure

    Genetic algorithms and the analysis of SnIa data

    The Genetic Algorithm is a heuristic that can be used to produce model independent solutions to an optimization problem, thus making it ideal for use in cosmology and more specifically in the analysis of type Ia supernovae data. In this work we use the Genetic Algorithms (GA) in order to derive a null test on the spatially flat cosmological constant model Λ\LambdaCDM. This is done in two steps: first, we apply the GA to the Constitution SNIa data in order to acquire a model independent reconstruction of the expansion history of the Universe H(z)H(z) and second, we use the reconstructed H(z)H(z) in conjunction with the Om statistic, which is constant only for the Λ\LambdaCDM model, to derive our constraints. We find that while Λ\LambdaCDM is consistent with the data at the 2σ2\sigma level, some deviations from Λ\LambdaCDM model at low redshifts can be accommodated.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, to be published in the proceedings of the 14th Conference on Recent Developments in Gravity (NEB-14), Ioannina, Greece, 8-11 June 201

    Neurosteroid Modulation of Synaptic and Extrasynaptic GABAA Receptors of the Mouse Nucleus Accumbens

    The recent approval of formulations of the endogenous neurosteroid allopregnanolone (brexanolone) and the synthetic neuroactive steroid SAGE-217 (zuranolone) to treat postpartum depression (PPD) has encouraged further research to elucidate why these potent enhancers of GABAAR function are clinically effective in this condition. Dopaminergic projections from the ventral tegmental area (VTA) to the nucleus accumbens are associated with reward/motivation and brain imaging studies report that individuals with PPD show reduced activity of this pathway in response to reward and infant engagement. However, the influence of neurosteroids on GABA-ergic transmission in the nucleus accumbens has received limited attention. Here, we investigate, in the medium spiny neurons (MSNs) of the mouse nucleus accumbens core, the effect of allopregnanolone, SAGE-217 and other endogenous and synthetic steroids of interest on fast phasic and tonic inhibition mediated by synaptic (α1/2βγ2) and extrasynaptic (α4βδ) GABAARs, respectively. We present evidence suggesting the resident tonic current results from the spontaneous opening of δ-GABAARs, where the steroid-enhanced tonic current is GABA-dependent. Furthermore, we demonstrate local neurosteroid synthesis in the accumbal slice preparation and reveal that GABA-ergic neurotransmission of MSNs is influenced by an endogenous neurosteroid tone. Given the dramatic fluctuations in allopregnanolone levels during pregnancy and postpartum, this neurosteroid-mediated local fine-tuning of GABAergic transmission in the MSNs will probably be perturbed

    Planktotrons: A novel indoor mesocosm facility for aquatic biodiversity and food web research

    We established a new indoor mesocosm facility, 12 fully controlled “Planktotrons”, designed to conduct marine and freshwater experiments for biodiversity and food web approaches using natural or artificial, benthic or planktonic communities. The Planktotrons are a unique and custom-tailored facility allowing long-term experiments. Wall growth can be inhibited by a rotating gate paddle with silicone lips. Additionally, temperature and light intensity are individually controllable for each Planktotron and the large volume (600 L) enables high-frequency or volume-intense measurements. In a pilot freshwater experiment various trophic levels of a pelagic food web were maintained for up to 90 d. First, an artificially assembled phytoplankton community of 11 species was inoculated in all Planktotrons. After 22 d, two ciliates were added to all, and three Daphnia species were added to six Planktotrons. After 72 d, dissolved organic matter (DOM, an alkaline soil extract) was added as an external disturbance to six of the 12 Planktotrons, involving three Planktotrons stocked with Daphnia and three without, respectively. We demonstrate the suitability of the Planktotrons for food web and biodiversity research. Variation among replicated Planktotrons (n = 3 minimum) did not differ from other laboratory systems and field experiments. We investigated population dynamics and interactions among the different trophic levels, and found them affected by the sequence of ciliate and Daphnia addition and the disturbance caused by addition of DOM

    A Profile Likelihood Analysis of the Constrained MSSM with Genetic Algorithms

    The Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) is one of the simplest and most widely-studied supersymmetric extensions to the standard model of particle physics. Nevertheless, current data do not sufficiently constrain the model parameters in a way completely independent of priors, statistical measures and scanning techniques. We present a new technique for scanning supersymmetric parameter spaces, optimised for frequentist profile likelihood analyses and based on Genetic Algorithms. We apply this technique to the CMSSM, taking into account existing collider and cosmological data in our global fit. We compare our method to the MultiNest algorithm, an efficient Bayesian technique, paying particular attention to the best-fit points and implications for particle masses at the LHC and dark matter searches. Our global best-fit point lies in the focus point region. We find many high-likelihood points in both the stau co-annihilation and focus point regions, including a previously neglected section of the co-annihilation region at large m_0. We show that there are many high-likelihood points in the CMSSM parameter space commonly missed by existing scanning techniques, especially at high masses. This has a significant influence on the derived confidence regions for parameters and observables, and can dramatically change the entire statistical inference of such scans.Comment: 47 pages, 8 figures; Fig. 8, Table 7 and more discussions added to Sec. 3.4.2 in response to referee's comments; accepted for publication in JHE

    A Determination of the Centre-of-Mass Energy at LEP2 using Radiative 2-fermion Events

    Using e+e- -> mu+mu-(gamma) and e+e- -> qqbar(gamma) events radiative to the Z pole, DELPHI has determined the centre-of-mass energy, sqrt{s}, using energy and momentum constraint methods. The results are expressed as deviations from the nominal LEP centre-of-mass energy, measured using other techniques.     Study of Inclusive J/psi Production in Two-Photon Collisions at LEP II with the DELPHI Detector

    Inclusive J/psi production in photon-photon collisions has been observed at LEP II beam energies. A clear signal from the reaction gamma gamma -> J/psi+X is seen. The number of observed N(J/psi -> mu+mu-) events is 36 +/- 7 for an integrated luminosity of 617 pb^{-1}, yielding a cross-section of sigma(J/psi+X) = 45 +/- 9 (stat) +/- 17 (syst) pb. Based on a study of the event shapes of different types of gamma gamma processes in the PYTHIA program, we conclude that (74 +/- 22)% of the observed J/psi events are due to `resolved' photons, the dominant contribution of which is most probably due to the gluon content of the photon.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, Accepted by Phys.
