Nestes modelos, a organização do espaço e a distribuição em planta
pretende facilitar e melhorar as condições de trabalho, potenciando a utilização de máquinas e
equipamentos. ; ### Abstract
Housing facilities and working conditions on Serrana goat farms in the region of Trás-os-Montes
Goat and sheep breeding has great socioeconomic importance for the northeastern
Portuguese region of Trás-os-Montes due to the number of families that are economically
dependent on these activities. This importance is particularly due to the scarcity of alternative
economic activities, in this region, one of the most least-favored Portuguese regions, which has
been subject to the exodus from the rural areas to urban centers over the last decades.
In this region, where there are few economic options, the production of small ruminants
can provide reasonable income to many families and it plays an important role in the
maintenance of populations in these rural areas.
Flocks are small and the main breeds that make up the flocks of Trás-os-Montes are
local ones, well adapted to local conditions. Animals are raised in extensive systems, according
to traditional farming systems.
Due to the local breeds and the breeding systems, goat and sheep farms achieve
products of high quality (meat and cheese). In the regions of Trás-os-Montes, there are several
PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) products. The associations of breeders and producers
(mainly ANCRAS, the national Serrana breeders association) intend to improve milk production
and milk quality for cheese.
Despite the value of these products, the high market demand and good level of income,
compared with other agricultural activities, the number of goat and sheep breeders has been
steadily decreasing. This fact could be due to the arduous working conditions for breeders inside
animal (goat and sheep) housing.
The associations of breeders and producers, who wish to increase their production of
quality products, assume that working conditions may be one reason for the reduction in the
number of producers and the low uptake of new breeders. The work in these farm buildings is
often difficult and painful.
Since the facilities and buildings play an important role in the organization and
working conditions, we decided to study and characterize the facilities and buildings for animal
housing on farms of small ruminants in the region, studying working conditions and methods in
goat houses, giving particular emphasis to the milking task.
The main purposes of the present work were to study the buildings, the facilities and
the working conditions, particularly during milking, in the region of Trás-os-Montes and to propose several solutions to improve the deficiencies found. This study intended to identify the
problems and the deficiencies in animal buildings and facilities that could have a negative
impact on working conditions, to identify and to study the methods used to milk the Serrana
goat breed, given the economic importance of milk production, and to present proposals for
facilities and goat houses that may significantly improve the working conditions on these farms.
To achieve these objectives, this work collected data about goat and sheep farming
systems; animal buildings and facilities used in the region; and working methods inside
buildings used in goat housing. Initially, the data collection involved 219 small ruminants farms
in 41 parishes in the region of Trás-os-Montes. In 186 of these farms we studied technical
characteristics of buildins used in goat housing.
The information was gathered through personal interviews with breeders and the
collection of data about buildings and facilities in these farms.
The next stage, consisted of collecting data about working conditions inside buildings
of Serrana goat farms, studying working methods, namely feeding methods, manure handling
systems and milking methods. Data collection was done through monitoring and recording of
the performance of these tasks on the farms selected.
Due to the great economic importance of goat milk (as a product for manufacturing
cheese) and the interest of the association of breeders in increasing the quantity and improving
the quality of milk, we gave special attention to milking work on Serrana goat farms. Data
collection was done by video recording of milking on several farms, covering all the types of
milking systems on Serrana goat farms.
With this information, we did a comparative analysis between the different types of
milking and evaluated the working conditions of milkers.
From the information collected, it was found that the buildings and facilities used in
small ruminants farms from the region of Trás-os-Montes are not appropriate to improve and
develop goat and sheep breeding.
The layout of buildings, inside arrangement and lack of equipment tend to generate
arduous working conditions. Generally, these buildings and facilities do not provide satisfactory
working conditions.
In order to improve working conditions in goat farms and to develop goat quality
products, some proposals were made, bearing in mind the socioeconomic conditions of breeders.
Proposals concern the layout of animal houses, equipment utilization and working methods in
goat farms

Purpose- The main objective is to analyze the direct effect of Corporate Governance (CG) on Dynamic Capabilities (DCs) and on Business Performance (BP), and the moderating and/or mediating impact of DCs on the CG-BP relationship.Methodology- The quantitative analysis was performed through PLS-SEM. Data were collected through a survey involving companies listed in B3 S/A from 2014 to 2016, except for companies from the financial sector. The final sample encompassed 195 companies per assessed year, thus totaling 585 observations concerning 2014, 2015 and 2016.Findings- Confirmed the direct and positive effect of CG on DC development, as well as DC’s influence on BP and the mediating effect of DC on the CG - BP relationship. The main conclusion was that DCs are a powerful mediating influence on the CG-BP relationship. Hence, even with efficient corporate governance mechanisms, the companies must make decisions in line with their dynamic capabilities as a way to reach better business performance.Limitations- Research cross-section method of data collection; and universe of companies listed in the Brazilian stock market.Practical implications- For example, the rejected hypothesis about the direct effect of CG on BP and the confirmation of the indirect effect via DCs suggests the analysis of aspects related to costs with monitoring procedures applied to agency conflicts and to complementary factors that must be achieved in order to boost performance. On practical terms, the results contribute to companies that look for the best and most satisfactory performance in the markets they work in.Objetivo - O objetivo principal é analisar o efeito direto da Governança Corporativa (CG) nas Capacidades Dinâmicas (CDs) e no Desempenho Empresarial (BP), e o impacto moderador e/ou mediador dos CDs na relação CG-BP.Metodologia- A análise quantitativa foi realizada por meio do PLS-SEM.
Direct resin composite restoration of endodontically-treated permanent molars in adolescents: bite force and patient-specific finite element analysis
Objective: To evaluate the influence of three levels of dental structure loss on stress distribution and bite load in root canal-treated young molar teeth that were filled with bulk-fill resin composite, using finite element analysis (FEA) to predict clinical failure. Methodology: Three first mandibular molars with extensive caries lesions were selected in teenager patients. The habitual occlusion bite force was measured using gnathodynamometer before and after endodontic/restoration procedures. The recorded bite forces were used as input for patient-specific FEA models, generated from cone-beam computed tomographic (CT) scans of the teeth before and after treatment. Loads were simulated using the contact loading of the antagonist molars selected based on the CT scans and clinical evaluation. Pre and post treatment bite forces (N) in the 3 patients were 30.1/136.6, 34.3/133.4, and 47.9/124.1. Results: Bite force increased 260% (from 36.7±11.6 to 131.9±17.8 N) after endodontic and direct restoration. Before endodontic intervention, the stress concentration was located in coronal tooth structure; after rehabilitation, the stresses were located in root dentin, regardless of the level of tooth structure loss. The bite force used on molar teeth after pulp removal during endodontic treatment resulted in high stress concentrations in weakened tooth areas and at the furcation. Conclusion: Extensive caries negatively affected the bite force. After pulp removal and endodontic treatment, stress and strain concentrations were higher in the weakened dental structure. Root canal treatment associated with direct resin composite restorative procedure could restore the stress-strain conditions in permanent young molar teeth

Forest Health in the Southern Cone of America: State of the Art and Perspectives on Regional Efforts
The plantation and natural forests of South America have been highly impacted by native and exotic pests in recent decades. The interaction of emerging invasive pests, climate change, and timber markets will define the region’s forests, with significant but uncertain ecological changes and economic losses expected. The Southern Cone Forest Health Group (SCFHG), a joint ad hoc initiative
run by forest health professionals from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay, aims to strengthen relationships between the forestry industry, stakeholders, academia, and government agencies across the region. Here, we highlight regional strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities to address forest health issues in the region. A regional approach with a strong communication network is
relevant for future actions. In the current global scenario of invasive species and climate change, the implementation of practices that incorporate the resilience of forest ecosystems and sustainable management needs to be prioritized in forest policy across the region. Understanding that pests and pathogens do not recognize borders, we call on governments and organizations to support joint
actions with agreements and adequate resources to enhance our regional capabilities.Estación Experimental Agropecuaria BarilocheFil: Villacide, Jose Maria. Whole-body ARHGAP21-deficiency improves energetic homeostasis in lean and obese mice
Inhibition of Rab-GAP TBC1 domain family member 1 (TBC1D1) reduces body weight and increases energy expenditure in mice. Here, we assessed the possible involvement of GTPase activating protein 21 (ARHGAP21), a Rho-GAP protein, in energy homeostasis. Wild-type and whole-body ARHGAP21-haplodeficient mice were fed either chow or high-fat diet for 10 weeks. These mice were analyzed for body weight, food intake, voluntary physical activity, and energy expenditure by indirect calorimetry. Real-time PCR was performed to determine changes in the expression of hypothalamic-anorexic genes. Whole-body ARHGAP21-haplodeficient mice showed lower body weight and food intake associated with increased energy expenditure. These mice also showed higher expression of hypothalamic-anorexic genes such as POMC and CART. Our data suggest that the reduction in body weight of ARHGAP21-haplodeficient mice was related to alterations in the central nervous system. This suggests a new role for ARHGAP21 in energetic metabolism and prompts us to consider GAP protein members as possible targets for the prevention and treatment of obesity and related diseases10CNPQ - Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e TecnológicoFAPESP – Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa Do Estado De São Paulonão tem2012/14993-9; 2015/12611-
