Music Learning Tools for Android Devices

    Get PDF
In this paper, a musical learning application for mobile devices is presented. The main objective is to design and develop an application capable of offering exercises to practice and improve a selection of music skills, to users interested in music learning and training. The selected music skills are rhythm, melodic dictation and singing. The application includes an audio signal analysis system implemented making use of the Goertzel algorithm which is employed in singing exercises to check if the user sings the right musical note. This application also includes a graphical interface to represent musical symbols. A set of tests were conducted to check the usefulness of the application as musical learning tool. A group of users with different music knowledge have tested the system and reported to have found it effective, easy and accessible.Universidad de Málaga. Avoiding staff removal stage in optical music recognition: application to scores written in white mensural notation

    Get PDF
Staff detection and removal is one of the most important issues in optical music recognition (OMR) tasks since common approaches for symbol detection and classification are based on this process. Due to its complexity, staff detection and removal is often inaccurate, leading to a great number of errors in posterior stages. For this reason, a new approach that avoids this stage is proposed in this paper, which is expected to overcome these drawbacks. Our approach is put into practice in a case of study focused on scores written in white mensural notation. Symbol detection is performed by using the vertical projection of the staves. The cross-correlation operator for template matching is used at the classification stage. The goodness of our proposal is shown in an experiment in which our proposal attains an extraction rate of 96 % and a classification rate of 92 %, on average. The results found have reinforced the idea of pursuing a new research line in OMR systems without the need of the removal of staff lines. This work has been funded by the Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte of the Spanish Government under a FPU Fellowship No. AP20120939, by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad of the Spanish Government under Project No. TIN2013-48152-C2-1-R and Project No. TIN2013-47276-C6-2-R, by the Consejería de Educación de la Comunidad Valenciana under Project No. PROMETEO/2012/017 and by the Junta de Andalucía under Project No. P11-TIC-7154

Machine learning para la optimización inteligente de la recogida de residuos

    Get PDF
Waste collection is one of the most important services that cities provide. Optimization possibities from the exploitation of collected data are very interesting, although, all the restrictions that apply must be considered. The work to be carried out consists of the development of models and tools for the design of a filling waste container prediction system, from which to subsequently carry out optimal planning of routes or other strategic actions. These models will provide key software components to determine, at a certain point in the future, what will be the filling status of a container, as well as to know when it would be filled, if it is not emptied before. The system must consider historical filling level data. This data is used to adjust the different models, but also to verify it. On the other hand, the input variables should be selected according to their degree of relevance in the prediction, considering the availability of them. Finally, the algorithm must consider criteria of scalability and flexibility to make it possible to apply in large areas

Personality traits, theory of mind and their relationship with multiple suicide attempts in a sample of first episode psychosis patients: One-year follow-up study

BACKGROUND: High rates of suicidal behaviour (SB) have been found in first episode psychosis (FEP) patients. It has been suggested that the presence of multiple suicide attempts (mSA) increases the risk of later SA and the risk of eventual death by suicide. OBJECTIVE: Our main objective was to study the baseline factors associated with the presence of mSA during the first year after FEP. In addition, a second aim was to find out whether there were any differences between single and multiple suicide attempters in the timing of the first SA after FEP. METHOD: A total of 65 FEP patients were evaluated. The presence of SAs were recorded at two different times after FEP. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed to explore the relationship between SA with sociodemographic and clinical variables. RESULTS: Multiple linear regression showed that mSA was associated with the presence of increased symptom severity (B?=?0.35; t?=?3.67; p < 0.01) and errors in first-order false-belief task (B?=?0.48; t?=?2.11; p?=?0.04). There were significant differences in the timing of first SA after FEP between multiple and single suicide attempters. CONCLUSIONS: Theory of mind impairments along with more severe symptoms during the first contact with mental health services for psychotic symptoms appeared to be important predictors of mSA. On the other hand, multiple suicide attempters tend to make a first SA after FEP earlier than single suicide attempters. These results could contribute to the implementation of preventive suicidal programs, however they must be confirmed by additional research.Funding: This study was funded by Ministry of Science and Innovation grant ISC PI11/0233

Energy Consumption of Wireless Network Access Points

2nd International Conference on Green Communications and Networking, GreeNets 2012; Gandia; Spain; 25 October 2012 through 26 October 2012The development of low cost technology based on IEEE 802.11 standard permits to build telecommunication networks at low cost, allowing providing Internet access in rural areas in developing countries. The lack of access to the electrical grid is a problem when the network is being developed in rural areas, so that wireless access points should operate using solar panels and batteries. Many cases can be found where the energy consumption becomes a key point in wireless network design. In this paper we present a comparative study of the energy consumption of several wireless network access points. We will compare the energy consumption of different brands and models, for several operation scenarios and operating modes. Obtained results allow us to achieve the objective of this article, that is, promote the development of wireless communication networks energetically efficient.Andrade Morelli, S.; Ruiz Sanchez, E.; Granell Romero, E.; Lloret, J. NUEVA TÉCNICA DE CORRESPONDENCIA DE IMÁGENES PARA LA RECONSTRUCCIÓN DE ATAURIQUES

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present a new Content Based Image Retrieval technology specially designed to help reassemble archaeological pieces. The method finds similar fragments based on the fragment content not the shape of the fracture. A texturization method is proposed to enhance this content. Furthermore, classic Fourier features computation is modified to increase the success matching, and preserve the scaling information. The results show that this technology is suitable to filter candidates in a puzzle-solving tool when the number of fragments is huge.
