Digital transformation is a current topic of great importance due to the extent to which it is affecting the lives of people globally. Reflections on the behavior modification that is taking place during this process are presented. Above all, digital technology has promoted an algorithmic interaction that has caused an increase in the need for digital literacy in people to remain functional in the daily context and emphasized the need for a problem-solving approach in higher education with a view to sustain digitized social functioning. It is proposed that a research effort should be made to accompany the process of developing digital skills in this transition to composite and shared worlds

Allelopathy refers to the ability that certain plant has to interfere in the metabolism of another by substances released into the environment, causing harmful or beneficial effects. The aim of this work was to evaluate the allelopathic effects of metanolic extracts from shoots (leaves and stems) of Annona crassiflora, A. coriacea, A. dioica, A. sylvatica and Duguetia furfuracea (Annonaceae), at 1% (m/v) concentration on germination and early growth of lettuce seedlings. Treatments consisted of three replicates of 25 lettuce seeds distributed in Petri dishes containing two sheets of germitest paper and 3 mL of extracts, maintained at 25ºC with white light. The control treatment was only watered with distilled water. The counting of normal seedlings, time of germination and length of radicle and hypocotyl were evaluated at four and seven days after sowing. Extracts were characterized about pH and phytochemical prospection. The methanolic extracts from Annonaceae altered all the parameters analyzed, significantly reducing the germination percentage and vigor of lettuce seeds and affecting adversely the time of germination in relation to the control. Extracts also caused radicle and hypocotyls growth inhibition.

Background: There is a growing interest in the use of hypofractionation in the setting of post-mastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT). Here, we present an interim report on the acute toxicities and the dosimetry of a 15-day hypofractionated regimen. Materials and methods: Patients aged 18–75 years who underwent mastectomy and had pathological stage IIB–IIIC or any clinical stage who had received neoadjuvant chemotherapy were treated with PMRT at a dose of 43.5 Gy in 15 fractions. Acute toxicities were scored using Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 4.0. Results: Between September 2020 and September 2021, 92 patients were enrolled in the study. Majority experienced grade 1 dermatitis during the course of treatment. Skin toxicities peaked two weeks after PMRT in which 57 patients (62%) had grade 2 dermatitis and 6 patients (7%) had grade 3 dermatitis. Most resolved one month after treatment, with all resolving at three months. Grade 2 fatigue occurred in 4 patients (4%). There were no grade 3 fatigue or pneumonitis of any grade. The average V95% for the chest wall, axilla, and supraclavicular fossa were 91.5%, 99.3%, and 97.5%, respectively. Average ipsilateral lung V17 was 43.6%, while the mean heart dose averaged at 3.46 Gy. Conclusion: This interim report showed that hypofractionated PMRT is associated with a low incidence of clinically significant acute toxicities. With the use of the 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy technique and volume-based planning, adequate target volume coverage and acceptable heart doses were achieved, although with a slightly higher ipsilateral lung dose

Obesity is a worldwide epidemic that reduces life expectancy; therefore, the search for new alternative and effective treatments is ongoing. The aim of the present investigation was to identify the chemical compounds in the hydroethanolic extract of leaves of Jacaranda decurrens subsp. symmetrifoliolata and to evaluate their toxicity and antiobesity effects. High-performance liquid chromatography was used to identify the chemical constituents, and acute toxicity was evaluated in rats treated with doses of 2 and 5 g·kg−1 body mass. The antiobesity effect was determined in rats with hypercaloric diet-induced obesity. Our results revealed the presence of compounds, such as jacaric, ursolic, and oleic acids, as well as luteolin, quercetin, and kaempferol, in the extract. The acute toxicity tests revealed that rats treated with elevated doses of the extract showed no signs of toxicity. The extract induced reduction in total body mass and the white adipose tissue depots. The obese rats treated with the extract showed an increased fluid intake and feces excretion while their serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels decreased compared to those in the controls, without any hematological changes. Taken together, the results showed that the constituents of J. decurrens extracts included phenolic compounds and exhibited antiobesity effects with no toxicity
