Constraints on quasi-normal-mode frequencies with LIGO-Virgo binary-black-hole observations
The no-hair conjecture in General Relativity (GR) states that a Kerr black
hole (BH) is completely described by its mass and spin. As a consequence, the
complex quasi-normal-mode (QNM) frequencies of a binary-black-hole (BBH)
ringdown can be uniquely determined by the mass and spin of the remnant object.
Conversely, measurement of the QNM frequencies could be an independent test of
the no-hair conjecture. This paper extends to spinning BHs earlier work that
proposed to test the no-hair conjecture by measuring the complex QNM
frequencies of a BBH ringdown using parameterized inspiral-merger-ringdown
waveforms in the effective-one-body formalism, thereby taking full advantage of
the entire signal power and removing dependency on the predicted or estimated
start time of the ringdown. Our method was used to analyze the properties of
the merger remnants for BBHs observed by LIGO-Virgo in the first half of their
third observing (O3a) run. After testing our method with GR and non-GR
synthetic-signal injections in Gaussian noise, we analyze, for the first time,
two BBHs from the first (O1) and second (O2) LIGO-Virgo observing runs, and two
additional BBHs from the O3a run. We then provide joint constraints with
published results from the O3a run. In the most agnostic and conservative
scenario where we combine the information from different events using a
hierarchical approach, we obtain, at credibility, that the fractional
deviations in the frequency (damping time) of the dominant QNM are (),
respectively, an improvement of a factor of () over the
results obtained with our model in the LIGO-Virgo publication. The single-event
most-stringent constraint to date continues to be GW150914 for which we obtain

Black-hole Spectroscopy by Making Full Use of Gravitational-Wave Modeling
The Kerr nature of a compact-object-coalescence remnant can be unveiled by
observing multiple quasi-normal modes (QNMs) in the post-merger signal. Current
methods to achieve this goal rely on matching the data with a superposition of
exponentially damped sinusoids with amplitudes fitted to numerical-relativity
(NR) simulations of binary black-hole (BBH) mergers. These models presume the
ability to correctly estimate the time at which the gravitational-wave (GW)
signal starts to be dominated by the QNMs of a perturbed BH. Here we show that
this difficulty can be overcome by using multipolar inspiral-merger-ringdown
waveforms, calibrated to NR simulations, as already developed within the
effective-one-body formalism (EOBNR). We build a parameterized (nonspinning)
EOBNR waveform model in which the QNM complex frequencies are free parameters
(pEOBNR), and use Bayesian analysis to study its effectiveness in measuring
QNMs in GW150914, and in synthetic GW signals of BBHs injected in Gaussian
noise. We find that using the pEOBNR model gives, in general, stronger
constraints compared to the ones obtained when using a sum of damped sinusoids
and using Bayesian model selection, we also show that the pEOBNR model can
successfully be employed to find evidence for deviations from General
Relativity in the ringdown signal. Since the pEOBNR model properly includes
time and phase shifts among QNMs, it is also well suited to consistently
combine information from several observations --- e.g., we find on the order of
GW150914-like BBH events would be needed for Advanced LIGO and Virgo
at design sensitivity to measure the fundamental frequencies of both the
and modes, and the decay time of the mode with an
accuracy of at the 2\mbox{-}\sigma level, thus allowing to
test the BH's no-hair conjecture.Comment: 12 pages. v2: references added, discussion improved and 3 new

Intelligibility analysis of narrative and expository texts of the Cloze Test of Reading Comprehension
However, in Brazil, students underperform in reading, which makes it essential to create instruments for assessment and action planning in this area. In addition to cognitive and individual factors, issues inherent to the text, such as genre and structure, also influence reading. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyse the characteristics of the words, syntactic structure and cohesion elements of the Reading Comprehension Cloze Test (RCCT) based on a comparison of RCCT-N (narrative text) and RCCT-E (expository text) using Coh-Metrix software. The results show that the RCCT-E is slightly more complex than the RCCT-N, as supported by the literature, but they also reinforce that reader characteristics should be into account when defining the difficulty of the text
Molecular Characterization Of G And P-types Bovine Rotavirus Strains From Goiás, Brazil: High Frequency Of Mixed P-type Infections.
In this study, 331 samples from calves less than one month old from a dairy herd in the district of Piracanjuba, state of Goiás, Brazil were tested for rotavirus. Thirty-three samples (9.9%) tested positive for rotavirus. Out of those, 31 were submitted to G and P characterization by reverse transcription followed by semi-nested polymerase chain reaction. Two samples were characterized as G6P[1], three as G10P[11] and five as G6P[11]. The majority of the samples (51.6%) displayed multiple P genotypes (P-genotype mixtures), including typical human genotypes P[4] and P[6M], suggesting the occurrence of co-infections and genetic reassortment. Also, the detection of human genotypes in bovine samples may be considered evidence of the zoonotic potential of rotaviruses. To our knowledge, this is the first report of such a high frequency of P genotype mixtures in bovine rotavirus samples. It also increases data on G and P rotavirus genotypes circulating in dairy herds in Brazil and can help in the development of more efficient immunization approaches, thereby controlling infection and reducing economical losses.1051040-
