    Multiplicity Distributions and Charged-neutral Fluctuations

    Results from the multiplicity distributions of inclusive photons and charged particles, scaling of particle multiplicities, event-by-event multiplicity fluctuations, and charged-neutral fluctuations in 158A\cdot A GeV Pb+Pb collisions are presented and discussed. A scaling of charged particle multiplicity as Npart1.07±0.05N_{part}^{1.07\pm 0.05} and photons as Npart1.12±0.03N_{part}^{1.12\pm 0.03} have been observed, indicating violation of naive wounded nucleon model. The analysis of localized charged-neutral fluctuation indicates a model-independent demonstration of non-statistical fluctuations in both charged particles and photons in limited azimuthal regions.     Centrality Dependence of Neutral Pion Production in 158 A GeV Pb + Pb Collisions

    The production of neutral pions in 158AGeV Pb+Pb collisions has been studied in the WA98 experiment at the CERN SPS. Transverse momentum spectra are studied for the range 0.3 GeV/c < mT-m0 < 4.0 GeV/c. The results for central collisions are compared to various models. The centrality dependence of the neutral pion spectral shape and yield is investigated. An invariance of the spectral shape and a simple scaling of the yield with the number of participating nucleons is observed for centralities with greater than about 30 participating nucleons which is most naturally explained by assuming an equilibrated system.Comment: 5 pages, Latex, including 3 eps figures, submitted to Phys.Rev.Lett; updated pQCD comparison due to new input from the author, updated references, corrected plotting error in figure

    Present Status and Future of DCC Analysis

    Disoriented Chiral Condensates (DCC) have been predicted to form in high energy heavy ion collisions where the approximate chiral symmetry of QCD has been restored. This leads to large imbalances in the production of charged to neutral pions. Sophisticated analysis methods are being developed to disentangle DCC events out of the large background of events with conventionally produced particles.     Contribution of Physical Education in Achieving the Sustainable Develop-ment Goals Agenda 2030: A Scoping Review

    Agenda 2030 serves as a global call to action, aiming to transform lives worldwide. This study summarized literature about PE and Agenda 2030 with the use of a scoping review. The Scopus database was used as the only source of data to identify relevant papers. There was a total of 169 articles extracted, narrowed to 6 relevant studies with the use of PRISMA and PICOS framework. Based on the review, significant findings were revealed that will contribute in the field. The results showed that four various dimensions of PE contribute to SDG 3, (i.e., Creation of Varied Physical Activities Meeting the Learning Standards, Establishment of Holistic Physical and Health Education Programs, Engagement of PE Experts and Stakeholders in Attaining SDG 3 and 4, Empowerment of Stakeholders to Long-Term Benefits of Health and Fitness Engagement). On the other hand, four barriers to PE in terms of pedagogical action toward attaining SDG 4 were identified, (i.e., No Clear Policy Attainment of SDG 4, The Direction of SDG 4 Lacks Teachers\u27 Understanding of the SDG). Lastly, there were three ways PE contributes to attaining SDG 4, (i.e., Adaptation of the Curriculum to Environmental and Societal Changes, Establish Long-Term Goal towards Agenda 2030, Adaptation and Continuous Learning for PE Teachers, Promote Educational Values). The findings of this paper will significantly help stakeholders in the field of PE to strengthen the relationship between PE and SDGs. The general recommendation of this paper is that future work should cover all 17 SDGs to gain more ideas and concepts on how PE can contribute to achieving Agenda 2030

    Measurement of the W mass in e+ee^+ e^- collisions at 183 GeV

    The mass of the W boson is obtained from reconstructed invariant mass distributions in W-pair events. The sample of W pairs is selected from 57 pb1^{-1} collected with the ALEPH detector in 1997 at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV. The invariant mass distributions of reweighted Monte Carlo events are fitted separately to the experimental distributions in the qqbarqqbarqqbarqqbar and all l\nuqqbar channels to give the following W masses: mWhadronic=80.461±0.177(stat.)±0.045(syst.)±0.056(theory)GeV/c2m_{W}^{hadronic} = 80.461 \pm 0.177(stat.) \pm 0.045(syst.) \pm 0.056(theory) GeV/c^2, mWsemileptonic=80.326±0.184(stat.)±0.040(syst.)GeV/c2m_{W}^{semileptonic} = 80.326 \pm 0.184(stat.) \pm 0.040(syst.) GeV/c^2 where the theory error represents the possible effects of final state interactions. The combination of these two measurements, including the LEP energy calibration uncertainty, gives $m_{W} = 80.393 \pm 0.128(stat.)\pm 0.041(syst.) \pm 0.028(theory)\pm 0.021(LEP) GeV/c^2

    Vaccine antigens modulate the innate response of monocytes to Al(OH)3.

    Aluminum-based adjuvants have widely been used in human vaccines since 1926. In the absence of antigens, aluminum-based adjuvants can initiate the inflammatory preparedness of innate cells, yet the impact of antigens on this response has not been investigated so far. In this study, we address the modulating effect of vaccine antigens on the monocyte-derived innate response by comparing processes initiated by Al(OH)3 and by Infanrix, an Al(OH)3-adjuvanted trivalent combination vaccine (DTaP), containing diphtheria toxoid (D), tetanus toxoid (T) and acellular pertussis (aP) vaccine antigens. A systems-wide analysis of stimulated monocytes was performed in which full proteome analysis was combined with targeted transcriptome analysis and cytokine analysis. This comprehensive study revealed four major differences in the monocyte response, between plain Al(OH)3 and DTaP stimulation conditions: (I) DTaP increased the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, whereas Al(OH)3 did not; (II) Al(OH)3 increased the gene expression of IFNγ, IL-2 and IL-17a in contrast to the limited induction or even downregulation by DTaP; (III) increased expression of type I interferons-induced proteins was not observed upon DTaP stimulation, but was observed upon Al(OH)3 stimulation; (IV) opposing regulation of protein localization pathways was observed for Al(OH)3 and DTaP stimulation, related to the induction of exocytosis by Al(OH)3 alone. This study highlights that vaccine antigens can antagonize Al(OH)3-induced programming of the innate immune responses at the monocyte level

    Searches for neutral Higgs bosons in e+ee^{+}e^{-} collisions at centre-of-mass energies from 192 to 202 GeV

    Searches for neutral Higgs bosons are performed with the 237 pb^-1 of data collected in 1999 by the ALEPH detector at LEP, for centre-of-mass energies between 191.6 and 201.6 GeV. These searches apply to Higgs bosons within the context of the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM) as well as to invisibly decaying Higgs bosons. No evidence of a signal is seen. A lower limit on the mass of the Standard Model Higgs boson of 107.7 GeV/c^2 at 95% confidence level is set. In the MSSM, lower limits of 91.2 and 91.6 GeV/c^2 are derived for the masses of the neutral Higgs bosons h and A, respectively. For a Higgs boson decaying invisibly and produced with the Standard Model cross section, masses below 106.4 GeV/c^2 are excluded

    Intranasal immunization with outer membrane vesicle pertussis vaccine confers broad protection through mucosal IgA and Th17 responses

    A vaccine based on outer membrane vesicles of pertussis (omvPV) is protective in a mouse-challenge model and induces a broad antibody and mixed Th1/Th2/Th17 response against multiple antigens following subcutaneous immunization. However, this route did not result in mucosal immunity and did not prevent nasopharyngeal colonization. In this study, we explored the potential of intranasal immunization with omvPV. Only intranasal immunization induced strong mucosal immune responses that encompasses enhanced pulmonary and nasal IgA antibody levels, mainly directed against Vag8 and LPS. Furthermore, high numbers of IgA- and IgG-producing plasma cells were detected as well as lung-resident IgA memory B-cells. Finally, only intranasal immunization induced pulmonary Th1/Th17-related cytokine responses. The magnitude and type of systemic immunity was comparable between both routes and included high systemic IgG antibody levels, strong IgG-producing plasma cell responses, memory B-cells residing in the spleen and systemic Th1/Th2/Th17-related cytokine responses. Importantly, only intranasal immunization prevented colonization in both the lungs and the nasal cavity. In conclusion, intranasal omvPV immunization induces mucosal IgA and Th17-mediated responses without influencing the systemic immunity profile. These responses resulted in prevention of Bordetella pertussis colonization in the respiratory tract, including the nasal cavity, thereby potentially preventing transmission.Drug Delivery Technolog
