K/K+K^-/K^+ ratio in heavy-ion collisions at GSI with an antikaon self-energy in hot and dense matter

    Get PDF
The K/K+K^-/K^+ ratio produced in heavy-ion collisions at GSI energies is studied. The in-medium properties at finite temperature of the hadrons involved are included, paying a special attention to the in-medium properties of antikaons. Using a statistical approach, it is found that the determination of the temperature and chemical potential at freeze-out conditions compatible with the ratio K/K+K^-/K^+ is very delicate, and depends very strongly on the approximation adopted for the antikaon self-energy. The use of an energy dependent Kˉ\bar{K} spectral density, including both s and p-wave components of the KˉN\bar{K}N interaction, lowers substantially the freeze-out temperature compared to the standard simplified mean-field treatment and gives rise to an overabundance of KK^- production in the dense and hot medium. Even a moderately attractive antikaon-nucleus potential obtained from our self-consistent many-body calculation does reproduce the ``broad-band equilibration'' advocated by Brown, Rho and Song due to the additional strength of the spectral function of the KK^- at low energies.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, sent to Phys. Collection of medium-resolution gamma spectra of certified Pu reference materials

    Get PDF
A collection of medium resolution gamma-ray spectra from well-characterized Pu certified reference materials has been recorded using LaBr3(Ce) (2.0” x 0.5”) and CZT (500 mm3) detectors. Aiming to acquire the highest quality reference data, the spectra were measured for long acquisition times, ensuring very good counting statistics across potentially useful spectral intervals - up to 1.4 MeV for the CZT and up to 2.8 MeV for the LaBr3(Ce) detector. The experimental setup assures that the measurement geometry is stable and reproducible, and that the spectra have minimum influence from background radiation and pile-up effects. The spectra are available at the international database of reference gamma-ray spectra, and they feed phase I of the Pu isotopic inter-comparison exercise jointly organized by the ESARDA NDA Working Group and IAEA.JRC.E.7-Nuclear Safeguards and Forensic

O auto-retrato como consciência da nossa vida

    Get PDF

Formal Model Merging Applied to Class Diagram Integration

    Get PDF
AbstractThe integration of software artifacts is present in many scenarios of the Software Engineering field: object-oriented modeling, relational databases, XML schemas, ontologies, aspect-oriented programming, etc. In Model Management, software artifacts are viewed as models that can be manipulated by means of generic operators, which are specified independently of the context in which they are used. One of these operators is Merge, which enables the automated integration of models. Solutions for merging models that are achieved by applying this operator are more abstract and reusable than the ad-hoc solutions that are pervasive in many contexts of the Software Engineering field. In this paper, we present our automated approach for generic model merging from a practical standpoint, providing support for conflict resolution and traceability between software artifacts by using the QVT Relations language. We focus on the definition of our operator Merge, applying it to Class Diagrams integration

Chondrolysis of the hip in an adolescent: clinical and radiological outcomes

    Get PDF
Idiopathic chondrolysis of the hip is a rare condition of unknown etiology characterized by progressive destruction of the hyaline cartilage that covers the femoral head and acetabulum. Idiopathic chondrolysis of the hip has an insidious beginning and affects more often female adolescents. Patients report severe hip pain, mobility limitation, and even claudication. This study aimed at reporting one case of that rare disease: an 11-year-old female adolescent with chondrolysis, followed up for three years. Inflammatory activity tests were normal. Imaging tests (radiography, ultrasonography and magnetic resonance) were essential for the diagnosis. The treatment was based on pain control and preservation of the joint mobility, and included low-impact physical activity, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs, with good response after 12 months of treatment. Surgery was not necessary.

    Get PDF
A partir da relevância quantitativa de alguns resultados para analisar possibilidades teóricas e qualitativas capazes de elucidar as razões da maior frequência de alguns gêneros, sua popularidade, bem como as similaridades e diferenças entre as comunidades etnolinguísticas.opular Science magazines are ackowledged to be a valuable source of scientific information to part of the society not usually expert in Science. In this study, 110 posts of popular Science magazines are evaluated regarding their visual and verbal content. We quantitatively analyse these features considering the possibilities of expression on Facebook posts (videos, images, gifs, etc.) relating them to the main forms of available feedback to the Facebook users (like, share and comment). We gathered twenty timeline posts published by each of the following magazines: Cosmos, Galileu, New Scientist, Scientific American and Superinteres-sante during the period of three days (6th November 2015 – 8th November 2015), five profile pictures and five covers, and observed not only the amount of readers’ reaction, but also the comments done by their readers. We found that the most popular tool among the fans of the page is the liking feature while the comments are the least frequent used. In this paper, we discuss the reasons for this prominence, as well as the similarities and the differences between the ethno-linguistic communities
