Análisis y Estimación de Precipitación para Modelado de Caudal del Río Juan Díaz en el Distrito de Panamá Utilizando Redes Neuronales

When high levels of urban development, and erratic patterns of high precipitation combine in a small geographical area, there is a significant increase in the risk of human and/or material losses due to flooding and related incidents. With the objective of providing a method for the estimation of precipitation patterns in an area with a high risk of flooding, the current document describes the design and implementation of a neural-network-based system as a potential solution. With the use of TRMM satellite data, and ground station flow measurements in the Juan Díaz river, two models are developed for the estimation of the behavior of these magnitudes: one for estimating precipitation levels based on time, and one that estimates the flow of the river as a function of precipitation.Keywords: modeling, estimation, precipitation, flow, river

Participación de distribuidores PYME en el mercado paralelo: Un análisis empírico en empresas españolas

[ENG] Within the distribution channels of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), the negotiating of agreements with official suppliers is critical for the performance of small and medium-sized (SME) distributors. These distributors are limited by their size and negotiating power, which is significantly lower than that of their suppliers, leading them to seek alternative supply sources, such as that provided by the gray market. The participation of SME distributors in the gray market is not only conditioned by the negotiations with their oficial suppliers, but also by the role played by the size of the gray market and by the relationship with their suppliers. The literature shows very few studies into SMEs within this area of the distribution channel, so this article contributes an explanatory model of this phenomenon. Based on a sample of 181 Spanish distribution companies, our results confirm that negotiation is a favorable element, while granting limited importance to the role of the relationship. In addition, we find evidence of the key role of commitment between parties in a situation as peculiar as that of parallel marketing channels.[SPA] En los canales de distribución de productos de gran consumo, para los distribuidores de pequeño y mediano tamaño (PYME), la negociación de acuerdos con sus proveedores oficiales es un momento crítico del desempeño de sus negocios. Este tipo de distribuidores están condicionados por su tamaño al presentarse su poder de negociación ostensiblemente inferior al de sus proveedores, dando lugar a la búsqueda de fuentes alternativas de aprovisionamiento como las proporcionadas por el mercado paralelo. La participación de las PYME en este tipo de distribución no solo está condicionada por la negociación con su proveedor oficial, sino también por el papel que juega la dimensión del mercado paralelo y su relación con sus proveedores. La literatura ha mostrado escasos estudios de PYME en este ámbito del canal, por lo que este artículo contribuye con un modelo explicativo sobre el fenómeno. Sobre la base de una muestra de 181 empresas distribuidoras españolas, los resultados confirman a la negociación como un elemento favorecedor, aunque otorgando escasa importancia a la relación. Sin embargo, la amplia literatura relacional existente invita a seguir indagando sobre el papel que tiene un elemento tan importante como el compromiso en una situación tan peculiar como es la de los canales paralelos de distribución

Trends, Fluctuations, and Determinants of Commodity Prices

A threefold analysis of commodity prices is carried out to observe their long-run behaviour, their short-run properties and the main determinants. According to the evidence, the Prebisch-Singer hypothesis does not seem to be a property of most prices. The cycles of commodity prices are asymmetric but contrary to the case of economic activity, the longer phase corresponds to slumps. Interest rates seem to maintain a negative relationship with commodity prices.Commodity prices, real interest rates, Prebisch-Singer hypothesis, short-run behaviour. Algun fecho señalado que sea a honra del rey: royal privileges and the construction of royal memory in Castile (c. 1158–1350)

Producción CientíficaDue to their high rate of dissemination, the privilegios rodados, the most solemn diplomas issued by the royal chancery in Castile, were the ideal vehicles for transmitting royal ideology throughout the kingdom. Between the twelfth and the fourteenth centuries, the royal chancery used certain events to date royal privileges, in order to memorialize them. While there are several works which discuss the “micro-stories” written by the royal chancery during the reigns of Alfonso VII, Alfonso VIII and Fernando III; the period comprised between 1252 and 1350 has been neglected. Moreover, the commemoration of events in the royal privileges has not been analyzed as an individual topic. Therefore, a study of the events which the kings of Castile considered worth remembering between 1158 and 1350 would allow to explore the Crown’s notions of prestige and authority. This article will discuss the importance that knighting ceremonies and, especially, the victories against the Muslims played in the construction of royal memory. Additionally, it will be argued that there was a shift in the royal chancery’s practices regarding the use of events to date royal privileges in the decade of 1250s. From then on, the royal chancery commemorated fewer events in the dates of the privilegios rodados while simultaneously creating a more systematic method of recording them. This shift reflects the evolution of royal privileges as instruments of political communication, and illustrates the strengthening of royal authority experienced in this period.Por su alto índice de difusión, los privilegios rodados, los más solemnes diplomas expedidos por la cancillería real en Castilla , eran los vehículos ideales para transmitir la ideología real por todo el reino. Entre los siglos XII y XIV, la cancillería real utilizó ciertos eventos para fechar los privilegios reales , a fin de recordarlos. Si bien son varias las obras que tratan de los “microrrelatos” escritos por la cancillería real durante los reinados de Alfonso VII, Alfonso VIII y Fernando III; se ha descuidado el período comprendido entre 1252 y 1350 . Además, la conmemoración de hechos en el Real privilegios no se ha analizado como un tema individual. Por tanto, un estudio de los hechos que los reyes de Castilla consideraron dignos de recordar entre 1158 y 1350 permitiría explorar las nociones de prestigio y autoridad de la Corona. En este artículo se discutirá la importancia que las ceremonias de caballería y, especialmente, las victorias contra los musulmanes jugaron en la construcción de la memoria real . Además, se argumentará que hubo un cambio en las prácticas de la cancillería real con respecto al uso de eventos para fechar los privilegios reales en la década de 1250. A partir de entonces, el rey, la cancillería conmemoró menos eventos en las fechas de los privilegios rodados y al mismo tiempo creó un método más sistemático para registrarlos. Effects of heavy bosonic excitations on QED vacuum

We discuss the contribution of axion-like excitations (ALE) to the vacuum birrefringence in the limit $m_A \gtrsim \omega$, where $m_A$ is the mass of the excitation and $\omega$ the energy of test photons interacting with an external (intense) magnetic field. The relevance of this term with respect to the QED contribution depends on the ratio $g_A/m_A$ and, from present bounds on the mass and the coupling constant $g_A$, we find that in the present low energy regime, it ranges from $10^{-14}$ to $10^2$ suggesting an interesting alternative to explore.Comment: References adde and section II rewritten. Reinaldo Arenas: disidencia y distopía

En la presente investigación se pretende advertir la disidencia y la distopía en la narrativa del escritor cubano Reinaldo Arenas. Para este propósito se revisarán, en un primer momento, las expresiones dominación cultural, violencia simbólica y la distopía como género literario y como representación metafórica. En segundo lugar, se aludirá a la represión; la homofobia y el heterosexismo normativo como las estructuras psicosociales que animaron el compromiso político (disidencia ideológica) y cultural del autor con su obra y su contexto en tiempos de la Revolución cubana y específicamente, la dictadura de Fidel Castro. En el capítulo tres, se hará referencia al neobarroquismo –propio de la transculturalidad– como expresión artística y postura intelectual del autor y sus contemporáneos. Finalmente, se hará una lectura hermenéutica y en clave distópica de las novelas El Central (1981) y Otra vez el mar (1982) y una canónica de El asalto (1988) como la producción literaria que, desde la voz de la disidencia, constituye un espacio físico, psicológico y simbólico en el atlas de la distopía latinoamericana
