    Piano teachers’ conceptions of assessment

Las descripciones de las respuestas más prototípicas permitieron inferir la existencia de tres concepcionesSo far, studies of teachers’ conceptions of assessment are not very numerous This deficit is particularly notable in relation to music conservatory teachers, a group that traditionally has not aroused much interest in psycho-educative researchers. The main aim of this study was to identify the different conceptions of assessment amongst a sample of 45 piano teachers (at the Elementary and Intermediate levels). More specifically, our interest was to analyze their different representations about what and how to assess and why, by focusing on situations of continuous or systematic assessment. For this, on the basis of the findings of previous studies, comparative analyses were carried out in accordance with the variables «Years of educational experience» (three levels) and «Educative level of teaching» (five levels). Data were collected using written open-ended questionnaires and analyzed by means of the lexicometrical method. The analysis showed the existence of statistically significant differences (p < .05) when answers were compared according to the variable «Years of educational experience». However, the variable «Educative level of teaching» did not lead to the finding of different lexical profiles. The descriptions of the most representative answers led us to infer the existence of three conceptions, with increasing degrees of theoretical sophistication (direct, interpretative and constructive), which principles seem to be related to the different approaches of musical assessment that have arisen over recent decades. Additionally, these three conceptions were respectively associated with the three levels of «Years of teaching experience» (more than 15 years, between 5 and 15 years, less than 5 years). Similarities and differences between these conceptions and those postulated within other domains and educative levels are described. Finally, the study’s psycho-educative implications and limitations are discussed and further lines of research are suggested.

Usefulness of Probiotics in the Management of NAFLD: Evidence and Involved Mechanisms of Action from Preclinical and Human Models

    Get PDF
The present review aims at analyzing the current evidence regarding probiotic administration for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) management. Additionally, the involved mechanisms of action modulated by probiotic administration, as well as the eventual limitations of this therapeutic approach and potential alternatives, are discussed. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that the administration of single-strain probiotics and probiotic mixtures effectively prevents diet-induced NAFLD. In both cases, the magnitude of the described effects, as well as the involved mechanisms of action, are comparable, including reduced liver lipid accumulation (due to lipogenesis downregulation and fatty acid oxidation upregulation), recovery of gut microbiota composition and enhanced intestinal integrity. Similar results have also been reported in clinical trials, where the administration of probiotics proved to be effective in the treatment of NAFLD in patients featuring this liver condition. In this case, information regarding the mechanisms of action underlying probiotics-mediated hepatoprotective effects is scarcer (mainly due to the difficulty of liver sample collection). Since probiotics administration represents an increased risk of infection in vulnerable subjects, much attention has been paid to parabiotics and postbiotics, which seem to be effective in the management of several metabolic diseases, and thus represent a suitable alternative to probiotic usage. This research was funded by CIBEROBN under Grant CB12/03/30007 and the Community of Madrid under Grant Y2020/BIO-6600

Alkylation of ansa-zirconocene [Zr{(η5-C5H5)SiMe2(MBI)}Cl2] (MBI = η5-2-Me−C13H7) with MgRCl gave the dimethyl complex [Zr{(η5-C5H5)SiMe2(MBI)}Me2], but unresolvable mixtures containing mono-alkylated compounds were obtained when bulkier alkyls were used. However pure dialkyl complexes [Zr{(η5-C5H5)SiMe2(MBI)}R2] (R = CH2Ph, CH2SiMe3) were easily obtained using K(CH2Ph) and Li(CH2SiMe3) as alkylating agents. Diastereoselective insertion into the MBI-unprotected Zr−R bond was observed when all of these dialkyl complexes were treated with 2,6-xylyl isocyanide to give the iminoacyl compounds [Zr{(η5-C5H5)SiMe2(MBI)}R{CR[η2-N-(2,6-xylyl)]}] (R = Me, CH2Ph, CH2SiMe3). All of the new complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and the X-ray molecular structures of the dibenzyl and the imino-benzyl compounds were determined. The catalytic activity for ethene polymerization and ethene/1-hexene copolymerization of the dichloro zirconocenes [Zr{(η5-C5H5)EMe2(MBI)}Cl2] (E = C, Si), activated with methylalumoxane (MAO), was measured.Repsol-YP

Beneficial Effects of Viable and Heat-Inactivated Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG Administration on Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Diet-Induced NAFLD in Rats

    Get PDF
Oxidative stress and inflammation are well-known triggers of NAFLD onset and progression. The aim of this study is to compare the potential benefits of a viable probiotic (Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG) and its parabiotic (heat-inactivated) on oxidative stress, inflammation, DNA damage and cell death pathways in the liver of rats featuring diet-induced NAFLD. The consumption of the steatotic diet led to increased final body and liver weights, higher hepatic triacylglycerol content, altered serum transaminase levels and enhanced oxidative and inflammatory status. Administration of the probiotic and the parabiotic partially prevented the body weight increase induced by the steatotic diet, whereas the probiotic caused more effective decreasing hepatic triglyceride content. Sharp but nonstatistically significant decreases in serum transaminase levels were also observed for both treatments. The reduction in antioxidant enzyme activities found in the nontreated animals fed the steatotic diet was partially prevented by both treatments (GPx activity). Similarly, the reductions in nonenzymatic antioxidant protection (GSH content) and total antioxidant capacity (ORAC) found in the nontreated rats were restored by the administration of both treatments. These results show that both viable and heat-inactivated Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG administration partially prevent steatotic diet-induced liver oxidative stress and inflammation induced in rats. This study was supported by Instituto de Salud Carlos III (CIBERobn) under Grant CB12/03/30007, The Basque Government under Grant IT1482-22 and Synergic R&D Projects in New and Emerging Scientific Areas on the Frontier of Science and Interdisciplinary Nature of The Community of Madrid (METAINFLAMATIONY2020/BIO-6600). This study was aimed at evaluating the different concentrations of nitrogen for tomato seedling production (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.), hybrid Loreto. Five concentrations of nitrogen were analyzed: 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16 mEq / L, using as a basis the Steiner nutrient solution. A pilot randomized block design was used with six replications and five treatments. Thirty-five days after sowing, the following variables were analyzed: seedling height, stem diameter, fresh stem weight, fresh leaf weight, leaf area, dry steam weight, dry leaf weight, dry root weight and total nitrogen content. An ANOVA analysis (p <0.05) with post-hoc Tukey test was performed to compare each treatment variables. The results showed that the increase in the concentration of nitrogen has a positive effect on organ growth. The treatment with the highest values in the morphological variables was 16 mEq / L, which shortened the production time of seedlings ready for transplant
