    Help-Seeking Attitudes of United Arab Emirates Students

The psychological help-seeking patterns of college students in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have only recently begun to be examined. Initial suggestions indicate that the majority of Emirati students treat help seeking from counselors as a last resort, which may be linked to aspects of Emirati culture including feared loss of societal face, stigma associated with seeking help, and discouragement of self-disclosure to individuals outside of the family. The relationship among fear of losing face, stigma, self-disclosure expectations (i.e., risks and benefits), and help-seeking attitudes was examined using structural equation modeling with 407 Emirati college students. Loss of face and stigma were related to self-disclosure expectations, which in turn were related to help-seeking attitudes. Gender differences were also examined with results indicating significant mean differences across all variables, as well as across two paths of the structural model. These findings are discussed within the cultural context of the UAE

    Social inequalities and health inequity in Morocco

    BACKGROUND: According to the last census, Morocco has a population approaching 30 million people. The country has made good progress in the control of preventable childhood diseases but social inequalities and health inequities remain major problems for the third millennium. Despite the progress achieved during the last decade, the country still ranks at the 125(th )place according to the Human Development Index. This unpleasant position is mainly explained by illiteracy, education and health indicators. METHOD: Our study was based mainly on annual reports and regular publications released by the United Nations (UN), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Health Organisation (WHO), The Moroccan Health Ministry and related papers published in international journals. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: As indicated by the last Arab Human Development Reports (AHDR 2002, AHDR 2003, AHDR 2004) and implicitly confirmed by the "National Initiative for Human Development" (NIHD) launched in May 2005 by the King of Morocco, many districts and shanty towns, urban or peri-urban, and a multitude of rural communes live in situations characterized by difficult access to basic social services of which education and health are examples. CONCLUSION: Recent evidence showed that improved health is more than a consequence of development. It is a central input into economic and social development and poverty reduction. Serious initiatives for human development should consider the reduction of social inequalities and health inequities as a first priority. Otherwise, the eventual development achieved cannot be sustained

    Relation between obesity, lipid profile, leptin and atopic disorders in children

    Background: Obesity has become a disease of great importance affecting children and adolescents. Obesity can cause atopy or inflammation, where there are some common factors that predispose to both obesity and atopy. Objective: To study the factors contributing to allergic disorders in obese children, the role of leptin in obesity related atopic disorders and the relation of birth weight and breast feeding to both obesity and atopy. Methods: Forty seven obese children and adolescents and 45 healthy children (control group) were included in the study. The obese children were divided into 2 groups (based on the history of nasal allergy, bronchial asthma, skin, eye or food allergy), group I (n=21) atopic and group II (n=26) non atopic. All obese children were subjected to complete blood count, serum triglycerides and cholesterol, serum leptin (for control group also) and serum total immunoglobulin E (IgE) measurement. Results: Body mass index (BMI) was significantly higher in group I than group II (33.35±9.93 vs. 23.70±9.7IU/L, p=0.000), also serum total IgE was significantly higher in group I than in group II (510.476±366.407 IU/L vs. 114.577±120.940 IU/L, p=0.000). Group II showed higher serum leptin level than group I (185.115±105.912 vs. 133.048±100.718 ng/ml), a difference not statistically significant (p = 0.092), yet, both were higher than the control group (7.24±5.98 ng/ml). Significant positive correlation was found between serum leptin level and age (p=0.000, r = 0.60) and BMI (p=0.000, r = 0.720), while negative correlation was found between serum leptin and IgE (r= 0.289, P=0.049). Significant positive correlation was found between obesity (BMI) and family history of obesity (r = 4.672, p = 0.036). Conclusion: There is a strong positive association between obesity and atopy: Serum leptin was higher in obese children when compared to control group more in non atopic than atopic group yet not statistically significant. Family history of obesity is an important predisposing factor for obesity in children. The frequency of atopy was higher in artificial than in breast fed obese children. Therefore efforts should focus on weight reduction as a part of treatment of asthma in obese children, also serum leptin assay is important in all obese children and further studies are needed to know more details about leptin hormone and its relation to both atopy and obesity.Keywords: Obesity, Leptin hormone, Atopy, Total IgE, Allergic disordersEgypt J Pediatr Allergy Immunol 2008; 6(1): 27-34

    Development of novel chitosan / guar gum inks for extrusion-based 3D bioprinting: process, printability and properties

    The major limitation of 3D bioprinting is the availability of inks. In order to develop new ink formulations, both their rheological behavior to obtain the best printability and the target bio-printed objects conformities must be studied. In this paper, for the first time in our knowledge, the preparation and the characterization of novel ink formulations based on two natural biocompatible polysaccharides, chitosan (CH) and guar gum (GG), are presented. Five ink formulations containing different proportions of CH and GG were prepared and characterized in terms of rheological properties and solvent evaporation. Their printability was assessed (by varying the nozzle diameter, pressure and speed) using an extrusion-based 3D bioprinting process performed directly in air at 37 °C. Results showed that the incorporation of GG improved both the printability of the pure chitosan ink by increasing the viscosity of the solution and the shape fidelity by accelerating the solvent evaporation. We showed that the ink containing 15% (w/w) of GG and 85% (w/w) of CH had the best printability. This formulation was therefore used for the preparation of membranes that were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) before and after gelation as well as for their mechanical properties (Young modulus, strength and strain at break). The optimal process printing parameters were determined to be: 27 G micronozzle, extrusion pressure below 2 bars and robot head speed between 20 and 25 mm/s.     Hubble Tarantula Treasury Project. III. Photometric Catalog and Resulting Constraints on the Progression of Star Formation in the 30 Doradus Region

    We present and describe the astro-photometric catalog of more than 800,000 sources found in the Hubble Tarantula Treasury Project (HTTP). HTTP is a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Treasury program designed to image the entire 30 Doradus region down to the sub-solar (~0.5 solar masses) mass regime using the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) and the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS). We observed 30 Doradus in the near ultraviolet (F275W, F336W), optical (F555W, F658N, F775W), and near infrared (F110W, F160W) wavelengths. The stellar photometry was measured using point-spread function (PSF) fitting across all the bands simultaneously. The relative astrometric accuracy of the catalog is 0.4 mas. The astro-photometric catalog, results from artificial star experiments and the mosaics for all the filters are available for download. Color-magnitude diagrams are presented showing the spatial distributions and ages of stars within 30 Dor as well as in the surrounding fields. HTTP provides the first rich and statistically significant sample of intermediate and low mass pre-main sequence candidates and allows us to trace how star formation has been developing through the region. The depth and high spatial resolution of our analysis highlight the dual role of stellar feedback in quenching and triggering star formation on the giant HII region scale.     Accelerating Universe from an Evolving Lambda in Higher Dimension

    We find exact solutions in five dimensional inhomogeneous matter dominated model with a varying cosmological constant. Adjusting arbitrary constants of integration one can also achieve acceleration in our model. Aside from an initial singularity our spacetime is regular everywhere including the centre of the inhomogeneous distribution. We also study the analogous homogeneous universe in (4+d) dimensions. Here an initially decelerating model is found to give late acceleration in conformity with the current observational demands. We also find that both anisotropy and number of dimensions have a role to play in determining the time of flip, in fact the flip is delayed in multidimensional models. Some astrophysical parameters like the age, luminosity distance etc are also calculated and the influence of extra dimensions is briefly discussed. Interestingly our model yields a larger age of the universe compared to many other quintessential models.Comment: 18 pages, 9 figure

    The survival rate of hepatocellular carcinoma in asian countries: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    Hepatocellular carcinoma or Liver cancer (LC) is the sixth most common cancer and the fourth cause of death worldwide in 2018. There has not been a comprehensive study on the survival rate of patients with LC in Asia yet. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate the survival rate of patients with LC in Asian countries. The methodology of the present study is based on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) statement. The researchers searched five international databases including Medline/PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Knowledge and ProQuest until July 1, 2018. We also searched Google Scholar for detecting grey literature. The Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Form was used to evaluate the quality of selected papers. A total of 1425 titles were retrieved. 63 studies met the inclusion criteria. Based on the random-effect model one-year, three-year and five-year survival rate of LC were 34.8 (95 CI; 30.3-39.3), 19 (95 CI; 18.2-21.8) and 18.1 (95 CI;16.1-20.1) respectively. According to the results of our study, the LC survival rate in Asian countries is relatively lower than in Europe and North America. © 2020, Leibniz Research Centre for Working Environment and Human Factors.     Physical structure of the photodissociation regions in NGC 7023: Observations of gas and dust emission with <i>Herschel</i>

    The determination of the physical conditions in molecular clouds is a key step towards our understanding of their formation and evolution of associated star formation. We investigate the density, temperature, and column density of both dust and gas in the photodissociation regions (PDRs) located at the interface between the atomic and cold molecular gas of the NGC 7023 reflection nebula. We study how young stars affect the gas and dust in their environment. Our approach combining both dust and gas delivers strong constraints on the physical conditions of the PDRs. We find dense and warm molecular gas of high column density in the PDRs
