The role of ICT in teacher education. The development of web pages by project method

    Get PDF
This paper is a description of an in-service teacher training experience that used ICT to develop a project that involved teachers (nursery and primary) and also children, parents and other members of the educational community. Its aim was to build an Internet site that would give information about school life. It's an open web space where teachers, parents and students can express and share their ideals and activities. This project is still in progress and is being developed in three interconnected phases: conception, development and evaluation. The most important issue to relate is that the technical or instrumental learning is dependent on the ideas and purposes of teachers, students and parents. We believe that when we talk about ICT in schools and also in teacher education we shouldn't only be concerned with the 'means', that is to say, how to introduce computers or how to use a word processor and Internet resources, but also with the 'ends'. Only when we question the ends do we begin to pay attention to what we do, that is, to construct a story that is worth telling " ... to tell that we are merely tools makers (and tools users) is to miss the entire narrative aim? We are world's makers and world's weavers" (Postman, 2002, p. 108)

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
In recent years, inclusion has become a priority, as a right of all children and young people to a quality education. The concept of inclusive education challenges the practices of school psychologists, particularly with communities that represent ethnic minorities, such as Gypsies (Roma). In a broader view of inclusion, the role of the school psychologist is fundamental, being important for those who are at greater risk of exclusion. It is estimated that approximately 40.000 to 60.000 Roma people live in Portugal and that around 25.000 represent Roma children and young people in Portuguese schools. In this sense, it is essential to explore how the experiences and practices presented by school psychologists reveal an impact on the inclusion of Gypsy children and young people, considering different perspectives. The methodological approach adopted in this qualitative study was the grounded theory, in which the experiences and practices of 7 school psychologists are explored, through semi-structured interviews, on the role of the psychologist in the inclusion of Roma children and young people in Portuguese schools. In this study, aspects inherent to the inclusion of gypsy communities in society and education, the school and the practices of school psychologists were understood. In terms of interventions by psychologists to promote inclusion in the Roma community, assessment, psychological consultations, consultancy, projects to promote psychological development and advocacy can be highlighted

Delimitando como objecto de estudo a produção fílmica do realizador até ao final dos anos oitenta, propusemo-nos tentar compreender os modos como a pintura habita alguns destes filmes.: The interaction of cinema and painting reveals itself a rich field of analysis in the cinema work of Manoel de Oliveira, both trough the presence of painters, the act of painting, the mentioning of paintings, or its actual filming, and trough the construction of images that directly evoke the traditions of painting. Defining as the scope of this study the film maker´s work until the end of the 1980´s, we aim to understand how painting inhabits some of these films

Evaluation of quality control viral load HIV results from two laboratories in Maputo, after the 3rd Congress of Laboratory Quality Control for Portuguese-Speaking Countries, Mozambique

The Project of Laboratory Quality Improvement for Portuguese Speaking Countries (ProMeQuaLab) is based on three major work tools: education, training and monitoring of quality control measures, in order to build capacity to implement and sustain good laboratory practices. Since 2015, a biennial congress on quality control is organised which includes also courses in this field. The third edition of the Congress was held in Mozambique in May 2019. Theoretical and practical courses concerning internal (CQI) and external quality control (EQA), calculation of Total Error (TE) and Measurement Uncertainty (MU) were held. Two practical work sessions were organized, with the trainers of the quality control courses and trainees from two laboratories, Centro Criança Dream (Dream) and Laboratório de Virologia Molecular (INS) in Maputo (Mozambique), to applied the statistical tools to evaluate their quality control results of viral load HIV from 2018. Evaluation of viral load is strongly recommended by WHO for monitoring response to retroviral treatment. The objective of this work was the implementation of the concepts and tools of the assessment of bias and uncertainty presented in the quality control courses and their application on the quantitative quality control results from 2018 of RNA viral load HIV-1 from two laboratories from Maputo. The concepts and tools presented in quality control courses were applied to quality control results of two laboratories in Maputo (Mozambique) for the measure of imprecision, bias and measurement uncertainty. The courses and the work sessions have proved to be very effective in transferring knowledge and skills and therefore should be continued with other laboratories. The results of the bias and measurement uncertainty show that the INS laboratory (Cobas Ampliprep TaqMan96) had a better performance in comparison to the Dream laboratory (Abbott m2000). Effort must be made to continue the education program, namely the interpretation of the quality control results to achieve an improvement of the evaluation of patient results.N/

AS was funded from National Funds through FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., under the Scientific Employment Stimulus - Institutional Call - reference CEECINST/00026/2018.The lac operon is one of the best known gene regulatory circuits and constitutes a landmark example of how bacteria tune their metabolism to nutritional conditions. It is nearly ubiquitous in Escherichia coli strains justifying the use of its phenotype, the ability to consume lactose, for species identification. Lactose is the primary sugar found in milk, which is abundant in mammals during the first weeks of life. However, lactose is virtually non-existent after the weaning period, with humans being an exception as many consume dairy products throughout their lives. The absence of lactose during adulthood in most mammals and the rarity of lactose in the environment, means that the selective pressure for maintaining the lac operon could be weak for long periods of time. Despite the ability to metabolize lactose being a hallmark of E. coli’s success when colonizing its primary habitat, the mammalian intestine, the selective value of this trait remains unknown in this ecosystem during adulthood. Here we determine the competitive advantage conferred by the lac operon to a commensal strain of E. coli when colonizing the mouse gut. We find that its benefit, which can be as high as 11%, is contingent on the presence of lactose in the diet and on the presence of other microbiota members in the gut, but the operon is never deleterious. These results help explaining the pervasiveness of the lac operon in E. coli, but also its polymorphism, as lac-negative E. coli strains albeit rare can naturally occur in the gut.publishersversionpublishe

Mestrado em Gestão e Conservação de Recursos Naturais - Instituto Superior de Agronomia / Universidade de ÉvoraThe urban woodlands are an important refugee to birds that can’t find the essential conditions to their survival. The great diversity of these sites and the different existing habitats make them an hot-spot for conservation in urban spaces. So, it’s important to know which factors influence the species distribution and how the changes in land use can affect them. This study intends to create a methodology that allows predicting the impact in avifauna of different evolutions’ scenarios. The bird’s survey was done with a grid, all over the Tapada da Ajuda with analysis of some environmental and land use characteristics. The observed results allow the identification of same habitats’ choice characteristics and the formation clusters of habitats associated with a group of bird. From these groups, it was possible to create a methodology that permitted to predict the number of grids with favorable characteristics for each species. It was conclude that two management guidelines could be followed, depending on the objectives: increase forestry to preserve the maxim of diversity or a few of species that have their population’s maxim in Tapada; or increase brush-trees crops to preserve a few species that in Lisbon, only exists in Tapada da Ajuda
