Influence of eye movements on academic performance: A bibliometric and citation network analysis
Background: For many years it has been studied how eye movements influence reading and learning ability. The objective of this study is to determine the relationships between the different publications and authors. As well as to identify the different areas of research ocular movement.; Methods: Web of Science was the database for the search of publications for the period 1900 to May 2021, using the terms: “Eye movement" AND “Academic achiev*”. The analysis of the publication was performed using the CitNetExplorer, VOSviewer and CiteSpace software.; Results: 4391 publications and 11033 citation networks were found. The year with the most publications is 2018, a total of 318 publications and 10 citation networks. The most cited publication was "Saccade target selection and object recognition: evidence for a common attentional mechanism." published by Deubel et al. in 1999, with a citation index of 214. Using the Clustering function, nine groups were found that cover the main research areas in this field: neurological, age, perceptual attention, visual disturbances, sports, driving, sleep, vision therapy and academic performance.; Conclusion: Even being a multidisciplinary field of study, the topic with the most publications to date is the visual search procedure at the neurological level
Microbial colonization and resistome dynamics in food processing environments of a newly opened pork cutting industry during 1.5 years of activity
Artículo versión publicadaBackground: The microorganisms that inhabit food processing environments (FPE) can strongly influence the
associated food quality and safety. In particular, the possibility that FPE may act as a reservoir of antibiotic-resistant
microorganisms, and a hotspot for the transmission of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) is a concern in meat
processing plants. Here, we monitor microbial succession and resistome dynamics relating to FPE through a
detailed analysis of a newly opened pork cutting plant over 1.5 years of activity.
Results: We identified a relatively restricted principal microbiota dominated by Pseudomonas during the first 2
months, while a higher taxonomic diversity, an increased representation of other taxa (e.g., Acinetobacter,
Psychrobacter), and a certain degree of microbiome specialization on different surfaces was recorded later on. An
increase in total abundance, alpha diversity, and β-dispersion of ARGs, which were predominantly assigned to
Acinetobacter and associated with resistance to certain antimicrobials frequently used on pig farms of the region,
was detected over time. Moreover, a sharp increase in the occurrence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase-
producing Enterobacteriaceae and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcaceae was observed when cutting activities
started. ARGs associated with resistance to β-lactams, tetracyclines, aminoglycosides, and sulphonamides frequently
co-occurred, and mobile genetic elements (i.e., plasmids, integrons) and lateral gene transfer events were mainly
detected at the later sampling times in drains.
Conclusions: The observations made suggest that pig carcasses were a source of resistant bacteria that then
colonized FPE and that drains, together with some food-contact surfaces, such as equipment and table surfaces,
represented a reservoir for the spread of ARGs in the meat processing facility.S
Acoustic signal detection through the cross-correlation method in experiments with different signal to noise ratio and reverberation conditions
[EN] The study and application of signal detection techniques based on
cross-correlation method for acoustic transient signals in noisy and reverberant
environments are presented. These techniques are shown to provide high signal
to noise ratio, good signal discernment from very close echoes and accurate
detection of signal arrival time. The proposed methodology has been tested on
different signal to noise ratio and reverberation conditions using real data collected
in several experiences related to acoustic systems in astroparticle detectors.
This work focuses on the acoustic detection applied to tasks of positioning
in underwater structures and calibration such those as ANTARES and KM3NeT
deep-sea neutrino telescopes, as well as, in particle detection through acoustic
events for the COUPP/PICO detectors. Moreover, a method for obtaining the
real amplitude of the signal in time (voltage) by using cross correlation has been

Expansion cone for the 3-inch PMTs of the KM3NeT optical modules
[EN] Detection of high-energy neutrinos from distant astrophysical sources will open a new window on the Universe. The detection principle exploits the measurement of Cherenkov light emitted by charged particles resulting from neutrino interactions in the matter containing the telescope. A novel multi-PMT digital optical module (DOM) was developed to contain 31 3-inch photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). In order to maximize the detector sensitivity, each PMT will be surrounded by an expansion cone which collects photons that would otherwise miss the photocathode. Results for various angles of incidence with respect to the PMT surface indicate an increase in collection efficiency by 30% on average for angles up to 45 degrees with respect to the perpendicular. Ray-tracing calculations could reproduce the measurements, allowing to estimate an increase in the overall photocathode sensitivity, integrated over all angles of incidence, by 27% (for a single PMT). Immunometabolic actions of trabectedin and lurbinectedin on human macrophages: relevance for their anti-tumor activity
In recent years, the central role of cell bioenergetics in regulating immune cell function and fate has been recognized, giving rise to the interest in immunometabolism, an area of research focused on the interaction between metabolic regulation and immune function. Thus, early metabolic changes associated with the polarization of macrophages into pro-inflammatory or pro-resolving cells under different stimuli have been characterized. Tumor-associated macrophages are among the most abundant cells in the tumor microenvironment; however, it exists an unmet need to study the effect of chemotherapeutics on macrophage immunometabolism. Here, we use a systems biology approach that integrates transcriptomics and metabolomics to unveil the immunometabolic effects of trabectedin (TRB) and lurbinectedin (LUR), two DNA-binding agents with proven antitumor activity. Our results show that TRB and LUR activate human macrophages toward a pro-inflammatory phenotype by inducing a specific metabolic rewiring program that includes ROS production, changes in the mitochondrial inner membrane potential, increased pentose phosphate pathway, lactate release, tricarboxylic acids (TCA) cycle, serine and methylglyoxal pathways in human macrophages. Glutamine, aspartate, histidine, and proline intracellular levels are also decreased, whereas oxygen consumption is reduced. The observed immunometabolic changes explain additional antitumor activities of these compounds and open new avenues to design therapeutic interventions that specifically target the immunometabolic landscape in the treatment of cancer
Early high-titer plasma therapy to prevent severe Covid-19 in older adults
BACKGROUND: Therapies to interrupt the progression of early coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) remain elusive. Among them, convalescent plasma administered to hospitalized patients has been unsuccessful, perhaps because antibodies should be administered earlier in the course of illness. METHODS We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of convalescent plasma with high IgG titers against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in older adult patients within 72 hours after the onset of mild Covid-19 symptoms. The primary end point was severe respiratory disease, defined as a respiratory rate of 30 breaths per minute or more, an oxygen saturation of less than 93% while the patient was breathing ambient air, or both. The trial was stopped early at 76% of its projected sample size because cases of Covid-19 in the trial region decreased considerably and steady enrollment of trial patients became virtually impossible. RESULTS A total of 160 patients underwent randomization. In the intention-to-treat population, severe respiratory disease developed in 13 of 80 patients (16%) who received convalescent plasma and 25 of 80 patients (31%) who received placebo (relative risk, 0.52; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.29 to 0.94; P = 0.03), with a relative risk reduction of 48%. A modified intention-to-treat analysis that excluded 6 patients who had a primary end-point event before infusion of convalescent plasma or placebo showed a larger effect size (relative risk, 0.40; 95% CI, 0.20 to 0.81). No solicited adverse events were observed. CONCLUSIONS Early administration of high-titer convalescent plasma against SARS-CoV-2 to mildly ill infected older adults reduced the progression of Covid-19. Neddylation orchestrates the complex transcriptional and posttranscriptional program that drives Schwann cell myelination
Myelination is essential for neuronal function and health. In peripheral nerves, >100 causative mutations have been identified that cause Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a disorder that can affect myelin sheaths. Among these, a number of mutations are related to essential targets of the posttranslational modification neddylation, although how these lead to myelin defects is unclear. Here, we demonstrate that inhibiting neddylation leads to a notable absence of peripheral myelin and axonal loss both in developing and regenerating mouse nerves. Our data indicate that neddylation exerts a global influence on the complex transcriptional and posttranscriptional program by simultaneously regulating the expression and function of multiple essential myelination signals, including the master transcription factor EGR2 and the negative regulators c-Jun and Sox2, and inducing global secondary changes in downstream pathways, including the mTOR and YAP/TAZ signaling pathways. This places neddylation as a critical regulator of myelination and delineates the potential pathogenic mechanisms involved in CMT mutations related to neddylation
