Compliance with tobacco control policy and visibility of cigarette retailers around educational facilities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Background: In Saudi Arabia, cardiovascular diseases are among the top causes of death and disability, and smoking is one of the leading risk factors, particularly among males. Objective: Our study aims to evaluate the compliance with the anti-smoking law among cigarette retailers and examine the visibility of cigarette retailers around educational facilities in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia. Methods: We conducted a mapping survey and geospatial analysis of cigarette retailers around educational facilities from February to March 2020 (before the COVID-19 restriction) in Al-Olaya municipality in Riyadh city as a pilot study. We found 249 retailers, of which 152 sold cigarettes. Data analyses in ArcMap 10.6 compared the visibility within 250 and 500 meters from educational facilities. Results: We found many retailers were not compliant with the tobacco control regulation: 57.1% of minimarkets sell cigarettes, 15.8% of cigarette retailers display the products openly, and 12.5% of cigarette retailers sold cigarettes by the stick. Moreover, 71% of the total cigarette retailers were within 500 m from schools, and 62% of all schools had at least one cigarette retailer within 500 m buffer (5-min walking or 2–3-min driving distance). Conclusion: There is non-compliance with the anti-smoking law among cigarette retailers and high visibility of cigarette retailers around educational facilities in Saudi Arabia. Monitoring is needed for the effective implementation of tobacco control policies
Large Negative Poisson\u27s Ratio and Anisotropic Mechanics in New Penta-PBN Monolayer
The scarce negative Poisson\u27s ratio (NPR) in a two-dimensional (2D) material is an exceptional auxetic property that offers an opportunity to develop nanoscale futuristic multi-functional devices and has been drawing extensive research interest. Inspired by the buckled pentagonal iso-structures that often expose NPR, we employ state-of-the-art first-principles density functional theory calculations and analyses to predict a new 2D metallic ternary auxetic penta-phosphorus boron nitride (p-PBN) with a high value of NPR. The new p-PBN is stable structurally, mechanically, and dynamically and sustainable at room temperature, with experimental feasibility. The short and strong quasi sp3-hybridized B-N bond and unique bond variation and geometrical reconstruction with an applied strain allow p-PBN to inherit a high value of NPR (-0.236) along the (010) direction, the highest among any other ternary penta iso-structures reported to date. Despite having a small elastic strength, the highly asymmetric Young\u27s modulus and Poisson\u27s ratio along the (100) and (010) directions indicate large anisotropic mechanics, which are crucial for potential applications in nanomechanics and nanoauxetics

Hidden impurities in transparent conducting oxides: study of vacancies-related defects and impurities in (Cu–Ni) co-doped ZnO films
The effect of hydrogen and nitrogen impurities on the physical properties of transparent conductive oxides is investigated in this study. Therefore, 5 wt.% of copper and 5 wt.% of nickel co-doped zinc oxide ((Cu–Ni)/ZnO) films were prepared using the sol–gel method. The (Cu–Ni)/ZnO films were annealed in an oven at 500 °C for 2 h under air, vacuum, nitrogen, and argon atmospheres. The synthesized zinc hydroxide film was transformed to zinc oxide film during the annealing by evaporating H 2O. Films annealed under the mentioned atmosphere including as-prepared one were characterized by analyzing with UV–Vis and FTIR spectra in addition to the 2D mapping electrical conductivity of the surface measured by the 4-point probe. The annealed films under air, vacuum, and argon atmospheres led to generate H-related impurities bounded to the oxygen vacancy (H O) which they act as shallow donor defects resulting in forming (Cu–Ni)/ZnO films into n-type materials. Whereas, the film annealed under a nitrogen atmosphere has N-related defects bounding to the zinc vacancy (N Zn) which they act as shallow acceptor defects resulting in transforming the film from n-type to p-type. These defects affect the optical, electrical, and optoelectronic properties of the (Cu–Ni)/ZnO films
Measurement and ab initio Investigation of Structural, Electronic, Optical, and Mechanical Properties of Sputtered Aluminum Nitride Thin Films
We report our results on highly textured aluminum nitride (AlN) thin films deposited on glass substrates, oriented along the c-axis, using DC-magnetron sputtering technique for different values of back pressure. The structural, electronic, optical, piezoelectric, dielectric, and elastic properties of sputtered AlN thin films are measured and characterized. In particular, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) technique shows that AlN thin films exhibit a hexagonal structure. Moreover, we employed ab initio simulations of AlN using the Vienna Ab Initio Simulation Package (VASP) to investigate the structural and the electronic properties of hexagonal AlN structures. The experimental lattice parameters of the as-prepared thin films agree well with those calculated using the total energy minimization approach. The optical parameters of AlN thin films, such as transmittance and refractive index, were measured using UV–vis measurements. Our measurements of refractive index, n, of AlN thin films yield a value of 2.2. Furthermore, the elastic, piezoelectric, and dielectric tensors of AlN crystal are calculated using VASP. The dynamical Born effective charge tensor is reported for all atoms in the unit cell of AlN. Interestingly, ab initio simulations indicate that AlN has a static dielectric constant approximately equal to 4.68, which is in good agreement with the reported experimental value. In addition, the clamped-ion piezoelectric tensor is calculated. The diagonal components of the piezoelectric tensor are found to be e33=1.79 C/m2 and e31=−0.80 C/m2. The large values of the piezoelectric coefficients show that a polar AlN crystal exhibits a strong microwave piezoelectric effect. Additionally, the components of the elastic moduli tensor are calculated. The extraordinary electronic, optical, piezoelectric, and elastic properties make AlN thin films potential candidates for several optoelectronic, elastic, dielectric, and piezoelectric applications

Optical, electrical and chemical properties of PEO:I2 complex composite films
Synthesized PEO:I2 complex composite films with different I2 concentrations were deposited onto fused silica substrates using a dip-coating method. Incorporation of PEO films with I2 increases the electrical conductivity of the composite, reaching a maximum of 46 mS/cm for 7 wt% I2. The optical and optoelectronic properties of the complex composite films were studied using the transmittance and reflectance spectra in the UV-Vis region. The transmittance of PEO decreases with increasing I2 content. From this study, the optical bandgap energy decreases from 4.42 to 3.28 eV as I2 content increases from 0 to 7 wt%. In addition, the refractive index for PEO films are in the range of 1.66 and 2.00.1H NMR spectra of pure PEO film shows two major peaks at 3.224 ppm and 1.038 ppm, with different widths assigned to the mobile polymer chains in the amorphous phase, whereas the broad component is assigned to the more rigid molecules in the crystalline phase, respectively. By adding I2 to the PEO, both peaks (amorphous and crystal) are shifted to lower NMR frequencies indicating that I2 is acting as a Lewis acid, and PEO is acting as Lewis base. Hence, molecular iodine reacts favorably with PEO molecules through a charge transfer mechanism, and the formation of triiodide (I3-), the iodite (IO2-) anion, I 2· · · PEO and I2+···PEO complexes. PEO:I2 complex composite films are expected to be suitable for optical, electrical, and optoelectronic applications
Crystallographic,vibrational modes and optical properties data of α-DIPABcrystal
The Crystallographic data of the α-DIPAB sample was measured using powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). The crystal structure was also optimized using density functional based method. The calculations were performed both including vander Waals (vdW) interactions and excluding them to quantify the effects of vdW interaction on the crystal formation. The vibrational modes of DIPAB crystal corresponding to the Bromine deficient samples are calculated and presented. These show the origin of drastic change in dielectric response in Br deficient samples as compared to the ideal stoichiometric DIPAB crystal (Alsaad et al. 2018) [4]. Optical properties of an ideal α-DIPAB were calculated using GGA and HSE06 hybrid functional methods implemented in VASP package. We mainly calculated the real and imaginary parts of the frequency-dependent linear dielectric function, as well as the related quantities such as the absorption, reflectivity, energy-loss function, and refractive index of α-DIPAB in the energy window of (0–12) eV
Is pyridoxine effective and safe for post-partum lactation inhibition? A systematic review
What is known and objective: It has been suggested that pyridoxine has an antilactogenic effect. Studies of the efficacy of pyridoxine in suppressing lactation have reported conflicting results. The aim of this review was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of high-dose pyridoxine in post-partum lactation inhibition. Methods: This systematic review included published trials that compared the efficacy and/or safety of pyridoxine to placebo or to other pharmacological agents for the inhibition of post-partum lactation. We searched PubMed, Embase, ScienceDirect, CINAHL, AMED, the Cochrane library and the clinical trials registry to identify relevant literature. No limit was imposed on the year of publication of the studies, and the review included studies published until 15 January 2016. Two reviewers independently extracted data and assessed the risk of bias. Results and discussion: Seven studies were included, with a total of 1155 women, of which 471 women received pyridoxine. Three studies were randomized controlled trials, whereas the remaining four studies were non-randomized controlled trials. All of the included studies were relatively small (n=18-482). The studies compared pyridoxine with placebo, bromocriptine and/or stilboestrol. Pyridoxine was given orally, with a total daily dose of 450-600 mg for 5-7 days. Two trials (n=349 participants) indicated that pyridoxine was effective in inhibiting lactation in approximately 95% of the enrolled patients. All other studies failed to demonstrate pyridoxine efficacy through either clinical assessment or prolactin level measurements. Pyridoxine safety was assessed by two trials in which no serious untoward side effects were reported. Overall, the risk of bias for most of the studies was low to moderate. What is new and conclusion: Current evidence supporting the effectiveness of high-dose pyridoxine in the inhibition of post-partum lactation is inconsistent and insufficient. The effect of mephedrone on human neuroblastoma and astrocytoma cells
Mephedrone is an illegal drug that is used recreationally. Few studies have been conducted to investigate the mechanisms by which mephedrone is harming cells. In this research, we investigated the effect of mephedrone using toxicology coupled with LC-MS/MS based metabolomics in the two CNS derived cell lines. Methods of assessment such as neutral red (NR) assay, dimethylthiazolyl diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), lactose dehydrogenase (LDH) measurement, and morphology were performed to identify the effect on cell viability and to identify the best concentration to be used in a metabolomics study. A concentration of 100 μM of mephedrone was used in the metabolomic experiment because at this concentration mephedrone had induced several intracellular changes. Although there no clear indicators of cellular damage caused by mephedrone. In astrocytes there was a clear indication that cell membrane function might be impaired by depletion of ether lipids
Apocrine Hidradenocarcinoma of the Scalp: A Classification Conundrum
Introduction The classification of malignant sweat gland lesions is complex. Traditionally, cutaneous sweat gland tumors have been classified by either eccrine or apocrine features. Methods A case report of a 33-year-old Hispanic man with a left scalp mass diagnosed as a malignancy of adnexal origin preoperatively is discussed. After presentation at our multidisciplinary tumor board, excision with ipsilateral neck dissection was undertaken. Results Final pathology revealed an apocrine hidradenocarcinoma. The classification and behavior of this entity are discussed in this report. Conclusion Apocrine hidradenocarcinoma can be viewed as an aggressive malignant lesion of cutaneous sweat glands on a spectrum that involves both eccrine and apoeccrine lesions
Hepatobiliary manifestations following two-stages elective laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy for patients with ulcerative colitis: A prospective observational study
BACKGROUNDHepatobiliary manifestations occur in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. The effect of laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy (LRP) with ileal pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA) on hepatobiliary manifestations is debated.AIMTo evaluate hepatobiliary changes after two-stages elective laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy for patients with UC.METHODSBetween June 2013 and June 2018, 167 patients with hepatobiliary symptoms underwent two-stage elective LRP for UC in a prospective observational study. Patients with UC and having at least one hepatobiliary manifestation who underwent LRP with IPAA were included in the study. The patients were followed up for four years to assess the outcomes of hepatobiliary manifestations.RESULTSThe patients' mean age was 36 +/- 8 years, and males predominated (67.1%). The most common hepatobiliary diagnostic method was liver biopsy (85.6%), followed by Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (63.5%), Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (62.5%), abdominal ultrasonography (35.9%), and Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (6%). The most common hepatobiliary symptom was Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) (62.3%), followed by fatty liver (16.8%) and gallbladder stone (10.2%). 66.4% of patients showed a stable course after surgery. Progressive or regressive courses occurred in 16.8% of each. Mortality was 6%, and recurrence or progression of symptoms required surgery for 15%. Most PSC patients (87.5%) had a stable course, and only 12.5% became worse. Two-thirds (64.3%) of fatty liver patients showed a regressive course, while one-third (35.7%) showed a stable course. Survival rates were 98.8%, 97%, 95.8%, and 94% at 12 mo, 24 mo, 36 mo, and at the end of the follow-up.CONCLUSIONIn patients with UC who had LRP, there is a positive impact on hepatobiliary disease. It caused an improvement in PSC and fatty liver disease. The most prevalent unchanged course was PSC, while the most common improvement was fatty liver disease
