The present paper has been created within the research project “Tourism cities. Studies of the transformations, challenges and solutions in the face of the local touristification (1990-2007)” directed by the binational team Spain-Mexico, formed by El Colegio de Sonora-Universidad Autónoma de Madrid- Universidad de Sonora, research and educative institutions, furthermore supported by the theoretical framework of the thesis “Tourist city transformations Study arised from the migrant worker megaproject’s housing”. Inquire internal migration in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora, Mexico, promoted by developers megadevelopments employers, is addressed as a case study that will deepen in order to derive the ratio of imaginary urban tourism, identity and territoriality of migrant beneficiaries housing in gated communities developed by megaproject, which are spaces of social segregation and high corporate security. Will show an abstract of the comparative analysis of the cases of Puerto Peñasco and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The psychosocial aspect of the migrant will be analyzed from the psychological Lacanian perspective and the exploration of city‘s mental maps that recreate human’s perception as premise developed by Kevin Lynch and theoretical analysis of other imagery specialists as Mendez Sainz.Peer Reviewe

Hippocampal sclerosis affects fMR-adaptation of lyrics and melodies in songs

    Get PDF
Songs constitute a natural combination of lyrics and melodies, but it is unclear whether and how these two song components are integrated during the emergence of a memory trace. Network theories of memory suggest a prominent role of the hippocampus, together with unimodal sensory areas, in the build-up of conjunctive representations. The present study tested the modulatory influence of the hippocampus on neural adaptation to songs in lateral temporal areas. Patients with unilateral hippocampal sclerosis and healthy matched controls were presented with blocks of short songs in which lyrics and/or melodies were varied or repeated in a crossed factorial design. Neural adaptation effects were taken as correlates of incidental emergent memory traces. We hypothesized that hippocampal lesions, particularly in the left hemisphere, would weaken adaptation effects, especially the integration of lyrics and melodies. Results revealed that lateral temporal lobe regions showed weaker adaptation to repeated lyrics as well as a reduced interaction of the adaptation effects for lyrics and melodies in patients with left hippocampal sclerosis. This suggests a deficient build-up of a sensory memory trace for lyrics and a reduced integration of lyrics with melodies, compared to healthy controls. Patients with right hippocampal sclerosis showed a similar profile of results although the effects did not reach significance in this population. We highlight the finding that the integrated representation of lyrics and melodies typically shown in healthy participants is likely tied to the integrity of the left medial temporal lobe. This novel finding provides the first neuroimaging evidence for the role of the hippocampus during repetitive exposure to lyrics and melodies and their integration into a song

Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in children. Somatic inactivation of both alleles of the RB1 tumor suppressor gene in a developing retina is a crucial event in the initiation of tumorigenesis in most cases of isolated unilateral retinoblastoma. We analyzed the DNA from tumor tissue and peripheral blood of a unilateral retinoblastoma patient to determine the RB1 mutation status and to provide an accurate genetic counseling. A comprehensive approach, based on our previous experience, was used to identify the causative RB1 mutations. Screening for RB1 mutations was performed by PCR direct sequencing, multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) and Real Time-PCR analyses. Three different mutations were identified in the tumor DNA, which were absent in blood DNA. The somatic origin of these mutations was vital to rule out the heritable condition in this patient. Fil: Ottaviani, Daniela. Universidad de Buenos Aires. Facultad de Farmacia y Bioquímica. Legitimacy and general perceptions of judicial authorities from Cordoba (argentina): an approach from procedural justice perceptions

Justice is a desirable principle in social inter - actions. At the same time, in the case of institutions, justice is a virtue that is manifested in its role of distributing goods and costs or rights and duties (distributive justice) and its corrective function to punish actions that violate social norms (jus - tice sanctioning) (Garzón, 2004). The role of justice as the main regulator of social relations has become a topic of great interest to Social Psychology. The majority of recent studies in this perspective of justice have investigated perceptions of procedural justice, this is, justice based on the process used by an au thor ity to make a decision. Most researchers found that procedural justice evaluations are an important predictor of the legitimacy of the author - ities. However, these studies have been conducted mainly in the United States, and in our local area there is no previous research centered in this perspective of justice. Although there are some previous studies that recognize the problem of legi - timacy in Latin America (Latinobarometro Corporation, 2010; Salles, 2010; Turner & Carballo, 2010), we have no knowledge of local research, conducted in the field of Social Psychology, that examines the origins of this lack of confidence in legal authorities. For this reason, the present study evaluates not only perceptions of legitimacy of legal authorities, but also their relationship with proce - dural justice values.According to that, we study the impact of citizens’ procedural justice perceptions of a particular experience with a legal authority on perceptions of legitimacy and fairness of the au - thorities in general. In addition, we control for the influence of various socio-demographic variables (gender, age, educational level and socioeconomic status) and status (presence of a conflict, the volun - tariness of the experience, the favorability of outcomes and the relevance of results and treat ment) on this relationship. We used a retrospective ex post facto design in a nonrandom sample of 300 citizens (54.7% male) from the city of Córdoba (Argen - tina). We interviewed only those who had a personal experience with at least one of the au thorities under study (police, traffic police, courts, and municipal inspectors) during the last year. Most of the situations involved contact with the police (52.9%) or traffic police (30.4%), whereas only 10% were with municipal inspectors, and the remaining 6.7% were situations related to court issues. Moreover, the vast majority of situations with the authorities involved a non-voluntary contact (71.7%) and only 9% included a dispute with another person. The descriptive results of the perceived legitimacy of the authorities were consis tent with previous research: Most people did not have a positive valuation of legal authorities, and courts were the institutions worst valued, while the traffic police were among the best valued. It was also found that procedural justice is a significant predictor of perceptions of legitimacy (r = 52) and General Valuation of Justice (r = 61) of the legal authorities. Regarding the control variables, we found that the sociodemographic and situational variables have no significant effect on these two dependent variables, when procedural justice is taken into account. These results are important because they expose the relevance of authorities’ performance during their contacts with citizens: those who believed that authorities had not acted in a fair way during their personal encounter, were more likely to assign less legitimacy to authorities in general. This results are relevant in Social Psy chology field, taking into account that previous research has emphasized the relevance of legiti macy and justice perceptions for the support of the authorities and their effectiveness, that is, the maintenance of the social order.Fil: Alonso, Daniela Rocío. Abortion Legalization and Social Representations of Feminism in Argentina

    Get PDF
Over the last few years, the Argentinian feminist movement has experienced remarkable growth in its volume, scope, and public recognition. Positioned within the massive mobilization for the legalization of voluntary termination of pregnancy (VTP), we are interested in addressing feminism as a social movement. Thus, we propose an analysis of social representations (SRs) of feminism as a means of studying collective identity. We also describe the role of attitudes towards VTP legalization as a cleavage that configures two opposing representations of feminism. We took a sample of 772 people from 16 to 81 years of age (M = 37.8, SD = 17.1). Applying a word association technique, we gathered information about participants’ SRs of feminism, together with information about their attitudes towards VTP legalization, political ideology, political interest, the personal relevance of religion, and participation in social and political actions and/or organizations regarding gender and/or sexual diversity matters. Our results evidenced a generally positive representation of feminism, but one that is conditioned by attitudes towards abortion legalization: that is, people who were in favour of VTP legalization expressed positive associations, mainly referring to feminism as a social movement, emphasizing the political dimension. In contrast, people who were against VTP legalization were more likely to hold a mainly negative representation of feminism, exemplified by representations of specific women who act motivated by hatred, resentment, and contempt towards men, and who express an authoritarian seek for a dominant position in society. We discuss the implications of these results in terms of collective identity.Fil: Alonso, Daniela Rocío. Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. The optimization of cellulase production by Irpex lacteus and Pycnoporus sanguineus was investigated. Fractional factorial design was conducted to determine significant variables and interactions. Response surface methodology was applied through Box-Behnken design to determine the optimum level of each factor on cellulase production. The optimal conditions of culture media were (g/L): for I. lacteus CaCl2.2(H2O) 0.3, MgSO4.7(H2O) 0.3 and KH2PO4 3, while for P. sanguineus was CaCl2.2(H2O) 0.1, MgSO4.7(H2O) 0.2 and KH2PO4 9. This optimized medium improved cellulase production, especially β-glucosidase activity values for I. lacteus. KH2PO4 was found in this work to be a useful mineral compound for cellulolytic production.Fil: Rodríguez, María Daniela. Universidad Nacional de Misiones. Recent attempts to redenominate the Colombian peso: A historical overview

    Get PDF
This paper compares seven bills introduced to the Colombian Congress in the 21st century to redenominate the country’s currency. It aims to contribute to the scarce literature on the subject, as well as to the discussion of the bill introduced in 2018. The study presents an analysis of these bills and documents the failed journey of the previous six bills through the Congress. Results show that although there are some coincidences in the proposals, such as dropping three zeros and the creation of the “nuevo peso,” the bills can be classified into two main groups. Finally, the paper presents a discussion of the elements necessary for a cost-benefit evaluation of similar bills

This study examines the relationship between the international coffee price and retail coffee prices in the five main cities in Colombia through cointegration tests, Granger causality tests, and impulse-response functions. The evidence points to the existence of a long-term relationship between the retail prices in the five main cities and the world coffee price. This relationship has a unidirectional causality of international coffee prices to retail coffee prices. The magnitude of the transmission of the international global price remains for 36 months or more for most retail coffee prices. Mutations in the RB1 Gene in Argentine Retinoblastoma Patients and Uncommon Clinical Presentations

Background: Retinoblastoma, the most common ocular cancer of childhood, is caused by inactivation of the RB1 tumor suppressor gene in the developing retina. It may occur as unilateral, bilateral or rarely as multicentric retinoblastoma, including pineal or suprasellar tumors. Being the retinoblastoma a hereditary cancer, identification of the causative mutation is important for risk prediction in the family members. An early detection of tumor is critical for survival and eye preservation. Screening for RB1 mutations is important for early tumor detection, critical for survival and eye preservation. Purpose: To identify causative RB1 mutations in retinoblastoma patients with different clinical presentations, some of them with a rare multicentric retinoblastoma or with a second non ocular malignancy, as well as the rare association with down syndrome. A comprehensive approach was used to identify the mutations and to detect children with a hereditary condition. Methods: A cohort of 20 patients with unilateral, bilateral and multicentric retinoblastoma was studied. Blood and tumor DNA was analyzed by sequencing, segregation of polymorphisms and MLPA analyses. Some of the rare mutations were validated by cloning or by Real-Time PCR. Results: Six germline and seven somatic mutations were identified; they include nonsense, frameshift, splice mutations and gross rearrangements, four of them novel. Three out of four nonsense/ frameshift germline mutations were associated with severe phenotype: bilateral and multicentric retinoblastomas. The at-riskhaplotype was identified in a familial case including one patient with osteosarcoma; it was useful for detection of mutation carriers. Conclusions: This study allowed us to identify causative RB1 mutations, including several novels. Some patients showed uncommon clinical presentations of retinoblastoma. These data are significant for genetic counseling. Our results support the relevance of carrying out complete genetic screening for RB1 mutations in both constitutional and tumor tissues.Fil: Ottaviani, Daniela. Universidad de Buenos Aires.
