Financial time series representation using multiresolution important point retrieval method

    Get PDF
Financial time series analysis usually conducts by determining the series important points. These important points which are the peaks and the dips indicate the affecting of some important factors or events which are available both internal factors and external factors. The peak and the dip points of the series may appear frequently in multiresolution over time. However, to manipulate financial time series, researchers usually decrease this complexity of time series in their techniques. Consequently, transfonning the time series into another easily understanding representation is usually considered as an appropriate approach. In this paper, we propose a multiresolution important point retrieval method for financial time series representation. The idea of the method is based on finding the most important points in multiresolution. These retrieved important points are recorded in each resolution. The collected important points are used to construct the TS-binary search tree. From the TS-binary search tree, the application of time series segmentation is conducted. The experimental results show that the TS-binary search tree representation for financial time series exhibits different performance in different number of cutting points, however, in the empirical results, the number of cutting points which are larger than 12 points show the better results

Development experts are telling increasingly fascinating stories about how human development indices (HDI) among the poor in Africa, Asia, and Latin America have been buoyed by the diffusion of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) over the last two decades. According to data compiled by the World Economic Forum, ICTs have facilitated faster and more reliable communication with regard to almost all important spheres of life including healthcare, education, agriculture, commerce, e-banking, the environment, etc. Perhaps the greatest impact of ICTs has been in their democratizing effect and their role in promoting gender equity, especially with regard to access to information that affects basic facets of life which has been beyond reach before either because of geographic distance or because of a lack of facilities such as libraries and clinics. This paper employs the anticipatory scenario-building approach in offering an analysis of potential development implications of ICTs for the Horn of Africa region

Iraq industrial activities related to huge amounts of solid, non-biodegradable waste, waste low density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic being among the well-known. So in this study, the scarped LDPE food boxes were transformed into fine particles and used as a sand for cement mortar and concrete. LDPE wastes were utilized to alter 0 to 25% of fine aggregates in mortar mixtures and 0% to 30% in concrete mixes at an increment of 5%. Compressive strength and dry density were tested for all mortar and concrete specimens.  In addition, splitting tensile strength and ultrasonic pulse speed were tested for specimens of concrete.  Results show that mass, pulse speed of ultrasonic, splitting and compressive tensile strengths were lowered as the size of LDPE raised. The lowest value of dry density, compressive strength and splitting strength was 2240 kg/m3, 18.7 MPa and 1.68 MPa, respectively, for 15% replacement of sand by the LDPE waste in concrete specimens. Whilst, the value of ultrasonic pulse velocity of LDPE concrete mixtures tends to decline lower than the reference values, but it remains nearly to the stander concrete mixtures and can be classified as excellent quality concrete. The density and compressive strength were decreased by using LDPE waste in mortar mixes for all replacement ratios reaching 12% and 42% respectively for 25% substitute

Reinforced concrete (RC) is a good durable material that commonly used in construction compared to others. However, reinforced concrete structures may be damaged and are suffering from various deteriorations because of overloading and an inadequacy of design which may be attributed to cracks, spalling, large deflection, and more. Hence, it is essential to find repair and strengthening techniques of deteriorated concrete structures not only suitable in terms of the economy, but also to use them for their intended service life

Purpose – This paper aims to address the issue of internet financial reporting(IFR) index, by carefully reviewing existing literature relating to the topic, and then suggests a suitable dimension of disclosure index to represent IFR. Design/Methodology/Approach – The study was dependent on an extensive review of the literature of IFR.Findings – Many have investigated the extent, mode and quality of IFR over the last decade. Most of early IFR research is descriptive and exploratory in nature, thus unable to explain the item to represent the level of IFR. Furthermore, while many have conceded that a suitable proxy such as an index of disclosure can be used to gain insight into the sophistication of information disclosed by companies, to date, very few attempts have been made to develop such index. Of these few studies, the dimensions used to represent IFR are inconsistent among the researchers. These differences contribute to the variations in the findings and thus are unable to clearly explain factors influencing the behaviour of the IFR. Based on extensive literature review, we can conclude that the level of IFR can be categorised into two dimensions, which are content and presentation. Originality/Value – The paper provides a basis for mapping existing and future studies on IFR and constructing scenarios of future studies in this area. Paper type – Conceptual paper

Developing a framework to train community in life threatening emergencies (LTEs)

This Masters Project is a small piece which fits into the bigger vision of my life which is to make Pakistan a nation of life savers. Inspired by my mother’s death due to sudden cardiac arrest I decided to train my community in life saving skills like “CPR” and “Hemorrhage Control” so that they can help save lives by taking appropriate actions and doing immediate interventions. Knowing my passion, I was asked by a professor at my hospital to lead a project where we can develop and implement a framework to train our community in life saving skills like CPR and Hemorrhage Control. To achieve our goal we established a consortium of major stakeholders including the major hospitals, emergency medical services (EMS) and an NGO, and developed a curriculum to train 10 million Pakistani citizens in these life saving skills. Although we want to incorporate this curriculum in schools, the current pandemic has posed certain challenges like lockdowns due to which we are not able to test this curriculum with our intended population. Hence we decided to test our curriculum with the non-clinical staff from the hospitals of our consortium including the security and Human Resource (HR) staff. We have collected their valuable feedback so that we can refine our curriculum before this will become a part of the national school curriculum in Pakistan. Although it is an ongoing process, we are hopeful that once the pandemic is over we will be able to train our community in these life saving skills and make Pakistan a nation of life savers. Methods for hearing aids sought to compensate for loss in hearing by amplifying signals of interest in the audio band. In real-world, audio signals are prone to outdoor noise which can be destructive for hearing aid.  Eliminating interfering noise at high speed and low power consumption became a target for recent researches. Modern hearing compensation technologies use digital signal processing which requires minimum implementation costs to reduce power consumption, as well as avoiding delay in real time processing. In this paper, frequency controlled noise cancellation (FCNC) strategy for hearing aid and audio communication is developed with low complexity and least time delay. The contribution of the current work is made by offering a method that is capable of removing inherent distortion due filter-bank insertion and assigning adaptive filtering to a particular sub-band to remove external noise. The performance of the proposed FCNC was examined under frequency-limited noise, which corrupts particular parts of the audio spectrum. Results showed that the FCNC renders noise-immune audio signals with minimal number of computations and least delay. Mean square error (MSE) plots of the proposed FCNC method reached below -30 dB compared to -25 dB using conventional sub-band method and to -10 dB using standard full-band noise canceller. The proposed FCNC approach gave the lowest number of computations compared to other methods with a total of 346 computations per sample compared to 860 and 512 by conventional sub-band and full-band methods respectively. The time delay using FCNC is the least compared to the other methods

The rapidly growing information technology-based co-financing service (LPBBTI) in Indonesia requires a forceful legal basis for the parties involved in information technology-based financial services. As a rule-of-law country, Indonesia must make the rule of law the commander in chief and guide behavior. This research seeks to find the legal basis of LPBBTI in the laws and regulations of Indonesia, which is carried out by document study and uses a statute approach. The data obtained were then analyzed qualitatively. This research did not find any legal basis for LPBBTI in the law, but there are several laws related to LPBBTI, such as the Civil Code and Law No. 11 of 2008. The legal basis for LPBBTI specifically only exists in the Financial Services Authority Regulation No. 10/POJK.05/2022 and  No. 13/POJK.02/2018.Layanan Pendanaan Bersama Berbasis Teknologi Informasi (LPBBTI) yang berkembang pesat di Indonesia memerlukan landasan hukum kuat sebagai panduan para pihak yang terlibat dalam layanan keuangan berbasis teknologi informasi tersebut. Dasar Hukum LPBBTI terdapat dalam Peraturan Otoritas Jasa Keuangan No. 10/POJK.05/2022 dan No. 13/POJK.02/2018
