Analysis and evaluation of the establishment and maintenance of paths in a MANET used for industrial process monitoring
The use of wireless networks is having an ever greater impact on systems controlling automation, industrial manufacturing, distributed control and supervision. Wireless technologies in particular have penetrated quickly the area of control of public utilities networks, and typical examples of this are remote control and supervision of large water, gas or electricity distribution networks. These types of networks are usually formed of a central station and different remote stations, and remote clients who are able to remotely monitor or even control the working of the system. To improve the use of the system, the remote stations must have the capacity to exchange information between each other and with the central station. The spontaneous generation of wireless networks in remote stations to exchange information between workers is a possible solution. Taking into account the characteristics of this type of monitoring system, the paper has proposed a scenario (number of nodes, area size, mobility) and has modeled, using stochastic activity networks (SAN), the operation of an ad hoc network that uses a reactive routing protocol to determine if the network is able to offer the typical services of these facilities (images or video streaming and alerts). This work was supported by the MCyT (Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation) under the projects TIN2010-21378-C02-02, whose are partially funded by FEDER. A Public Fabric Database for Defect Detection Methods and Results
[EN] The use of image processing for the detection and classification of defects has been a reality for some time in science and industry. New methods are continually being presented to improve every aspect of this process. However, these new approaches are applied to a small, private collection of images, which makes a real comparative study of these methods very difficult. The objective of this paper was to compile a public annotated benchmark, that is, an extensive set of images with and without defects, and make these public, to enable the direct comparison of detection and classification methods. Moreover, different methods are reviewed and one of these is applied to the set of images; the results of which are also presented in this paper. The authors thank for the financial support provided by IVACE (Institut Valencia de Competitivitat Empresarial, Spain) and FEDER (Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional, Europe), throughout the projects: AUTOVIMOTION and INTELITEX.Silvestre-Blanes, J.; Albero Albero, T.; Miralles, I.; Pérez-Llorens, R.; Moreno, J. Plan de empresa : Academia Atlas
[EN] We continue to live a pandemic that has forced all schools, colleges and universities to change their methodology to an online format, which has not been positive for everyone, as many students, especially the younger ones, have been greatly harmed, causing a delay in their learning and educational process. Atrial fibrosis hampers non-invasive localization of atrial ectopic foci from multi-electrode signals: A 3D simulation study
Introduction: Focal atrial tachycardia is commonly treated by radio frequency ablation with an acceptable long-term success. Although the location of ectopic foci tends to appear in specific hot-spots, they can be located virtually in any atrial region. Multi-electrode surface ECG systems allow acquiring dense body surface potential maps (BSPM) for non-invasive therapy planning of cardiac arrhythmia. However, the activation of the atria could be affected by fibrosis and therefore biomarkers based on BSPM need to take these effects into account. We aim to analyze the effect of fibrosis on a BSPM derived index, and its potential application to predict the location of ectopic foci in the atria
Point of Zero Charge determination of ten standard biochars for the removal of methylene blue from aqueous solutions
This study describes the determination of the point of zero charge (PZC) of ten standard biochars (BC), supplied by the UK Biochar Research Centre (UKBRC), using the salt addition method, in order to select suitable biochar(s) for methylene blue removal from aqueous solutions. The initial pH (pHi) was adjusted in a range of 3 to 13 using NaOH and HNO3 solutions. The experiments employed a biochar dose of 10 g L-1. The final pH values (pHf) were recorded in the remaining suspensions after a 24-hour contact time at 120 rpm. The difference between pHi and pHf (∆pH) was plotted against pHi values and the pH at PZC (pHPZC) corresponded to the point of intersection in the resulting curve. The results obtained in 0.1 mol L-1 NaNO3 were the following: PZC at 7.24 and 8.53 for rice husk biochar (RH), the first obtained at 550 °C pyrolytic temperature and the latter at 700 °C (RH550 and RH700); PZC at 8.81 and 9.46 for oil seed rape straw pellets biochar obtained at 550 °C and 700 °C (OSR550 and OSR700), respectively; PZC at 9.24 and 9.84 for wheat straw pellets biochar (WS550 and WS700, respectively); PZC at 8.98 and 8.94 for Miscanthus straw pellets biochar (MSP550 and MSP700, respectively); and PZC at 6.73 and 7.15 for soft wood pellets biochar (SWP550 and SWP700, respectively).

Dynamics and transformation of the periurban space in the city of Formosa, Argentina
The expansion of the urban sprawl of the city of Formosa over the territory has presented a diffuse development that has deepened in recent years towards the periphery with a residential predominance. The southwest sector in particular presents spaces with different forms of housing production and urban vacuums or territories with water risk due to its natural conditions, a situation that has generated an important physical and social fragmentation. This article delves into the changes observed in the peri-urban space of the city of Formosa by identifying the transformations of land use in the first twenty years of the 21st century, using cartographic and documentary analysis as a methodology, complemented by field work and desk research for information processing.
The aim of this study was to assess predictive factors for delayed healing in forearm paediatric fractures.
This is a case-control study of all paediatric shaft fractures of forearm presenting delayed union in follow-up
period of 12 months or more, from 2003 through 2009, treated in Miguel Servet University Hospital. Exclusion criteria
were fracture-dislocations, infection, suboptimal osteosynthesis, greenstick, open, pathologic and associated
radial head fractures, as well as patients without stablished period of follow up. Statistical assessment included bivariant
and multivariant linear regression analysis. Results: During the study period 441 complete both-bone forearm
fractures were treated: 14 of them (3.2%) were identified as suffering delayed union; and 63 controls fulfilling inclusion
criteria were randomly selected. Bivariant analysis showed significant differences between "delayed union" and
"control" groups in age, need of surgical treatment, open versus closed reduction and mean time to hardware removal.
However, open reduction of the fracture, more frequent in the "delayed union" group, was the only variable which
remained associated in the multivariant analysis. Conclusions: The strongest predictor of union delay in paediatric
forearm fractures is open reduction
Enhancement of the broadband modulation diffraction efficiency of liquid-crystal displays
We report a method to maximize the broadband modulation diffraction efficiency of liquid-crystal spatial light modulators for polychromatic applications requiring a wide range of wavelengths. An optimized encoding pattern based on the minimum Euclidean projection principle is applied in order to increase the diffraction efficiency at large wavelengths that exhibit phase modulation depth lower than 2p. We demonstrate modulation efficiencies over 80% on a wavelength range from 454 to 633 nm, which can reach up to 98% when the range is reduced to 60 nm. Experimental results are shown to confirm the calculations
