    Family Value Transition in a Changing Turkey

    This dissertation consists of two articles. The first article presented is a literature review written to identify and review studies of intergenerational value transmission and social change. The main outcomes fell into five subsections (a) culture and values (b) social change and values, (c) continuing and changing values in Turkey, (d) parent-adolescent relationship adaptation to social change, and (e) implication for clinicians working with changing families. Overall, the literature review illustrated the complexity of value transmission process for families in rapidly changing societies and the need for more understanding of those families\u27 experiences for the clinicians. The second article extends current literature and is the first known qualitative study conducted with Turkish parents of adolescents on their experiences of intergenerational value transmission. Parents were interviewed together and data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis which revealed six themes: (a)family connectedness, (b)transfer strategies, (c)transformations, (d)a changing world, (e)reflecting on parenting, and (f)between the parents. Findings are discussed in relation to existing literature and the implications for clinicians and researcher

    A mutagenicity and cytotoxicity study on Limonium effusum aqueous extracts by Allıum, ames and MTT tests

    Nowadays plants or plant extracts have become very important for alternative medicine. Plants and their extracts have many therapeutical advantages but some of them are potentially toxic, mutagenic, carcinogenic and teratogenic. Root, stem and leaf parts of Limonium effusum were used in this study and this species is an endemic species for Turkey. Mutagenic and cytotoxic effects of root, stem and leaf aqueous extracts were observed with Allium, Ames and MTT tests. Allium root growth inhibition test and mitotic index studies showed that aqueous extracts have dose-dependent toxic effects. Chromosome aberration studies indicated that especially sticky chromosome, anaphase-telophase disorder and laggard chromosome anomalies were highly observed. Ames test performed with Limonium effusum root aqueous extracts, showed weak mutagenic effects in Salmonella typhimurium TA98 strain with S9. MTT test based on mitochondrial activity indicated that most of the aqueous extracts have cytotoxic effects. This study aimed to determine the possible mutagenic and cytotoxic effects of L. effusum aqueous extracts by using bacterial, plant and mammalian cells. This research showed that some low concentrations of the L. effusum extracts have inhibited cytotoxic effects but high concentrations have induced cytotoxicity. On the other hand only a weak mutagenic activity was identified by Ames test with TA98 S9(+).В настоящее время растения или экстракты растений стали очень важными для альтернативной медицины. Растения и их экстракты имеют много терапевтических преимуществ, однако некоторые из них являются потенциально токсичными, мутагенными, канцерогенными и тератогенными. Корни, стебли и листья Limonium effusum, эндемичного вида Турции, были изучены в этой работе. Мутагенные и цитотоксические эффекты водных экс-трактов корней, стеблей и листьев Limonium effusum были изучены с помощью Allium-теста, теста Эймса и МТТ-теста. Тест на ингибирование роста корней лука и определение митотического индекса показали, что водные экстракты имеют дозозависимый токсичный эффект. При изучении хромосомных аберраций обнаружено большое количество таких аномалий, как слипшиеся хромосомы, нарушения анафазы-телофазы и отставшие хромосомы. Тест Эймса, проведенный на водных экстрактах корней Limonium effusum, показал слабо выраженный мутагенный эффект по отношению к Salmonella typhimurium, штамм TA98 с S9. МТТ-тест, основанный на митохондриальной активности, показал, что большинство экстрактов имели цитотоксические эффекты. Цель этого исследования изучить возможные мутагенные и цитотоксические эффекты водных экстрактов L. effusum с использованием бактериальных, растительных клеток и клеток млекопитающих. Определенные низкие концентрации экстрактов L. effusum ингибировали цитотоксические эффекты, а высокие концентрации индуцировали цитотоксичность. Слабая мутагенная активность была определена только при помощи теста Эймса с TA98 S9(+)

    Acid Activation of Natural Zeolite with High Content of Iron Oxides in Creation of Selective Sorbents and Catalysts

    The paper studies the influence of the nature of modifying acids (mineral, organic and heteropolyacids), and their combination on the composition and structure of the iron oxide rich clinoptilolit from Shankanay field in Kazakhstan for creation of selective catalysts in hydracarbon processing and sorbents for extracting ions of lanthanide and actinide elements. It is shown that sequential processing of natural zeolite in optimal conditions, by hydrochloric and sulfosalicylic acids lead to intensive decationization and dealumination, as well as maximum removal of iron ions from the zeolite framework without destroying it. It is found that the combination of activated clinoptilolite with hydrochloric acid and phosphotungstic heteropolyacid contributes to obtain catalyst system with high surface area and acidity

    Diagnostic accuracy of a clinical diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: An international case-cohort study

    We conducted an international study of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) diagnosis among a large group of physicians and compared their diagnostic performance to a panel of IPF experts. A total of 1141 respiratory physicians and 34 IPF experts participated. Participants evaluated 60 cases of interstitial lung disease (ILD) without interdisciplinary consultation. Diagnostic agreement was measured using the weighted kappa coefficient (\u3baw). Prognostic discrimination between IPF and other ILDs was used to validate diagnostic accuracy for first-choice diagnoses of IPF and were compared using the Cindex. A total of 404 physicians completed the study. Agreement for IPF diagnosis was higher among expert physicians (\u3baw=0.65, IQR 0.53-0.72, p20 years of experience (C-index=0.72, IQR 0.0-0.73, p=0.229) and non-university hospital physicians with more than 20 years of experience, attending weekly MDT meetings (C-index=0.72, IQR 0.70-0.72, p=0.052), did not differ significantly (p=0.229 and p=0.052 respectively) from the expert panel (C-index=0.74 IQR 0.72-0.75). Experienced respiratory physicians at university-based institutions diagnose IPF with similar prognostic accuracy to IPF experts. Regular MDT meeting attendance improves the prognostic accuracy of experienced non-university practitioners to levels achieved by IPF experts

Finansal tablo okuyucularının, firmaların mali durumunu anlayabilmesi için hazırlanması zorunlu olan nakit akış tablolarını doğru analiz etmesi gerekmektedir. Bu tezin amacı, son zamanlarda yapılan düzenlemelerle önem kazanan nakit akış tablosunun doğru yorumlanabilmesi için gerekli analiz tekniklerini incelemek ve analiz teknikleri doğru yorumlandığında işletmeler için daha gerçekçi sonuçlar elde edileceğini göstermektir. Çalışmada, Kamuyu Aydınlatma Platformu‟nda bağımsız denetim raporu yayımlanan bir firmanın 2016-2017 yılları arasındaki mali verilerine ulaşılarak Uluslararası Muhasebe Standartlarına göre hazırlanmış olan nakit akış tablosu, analiz teknikleri uygulanarak yorumlanmıştır. Birinci bölümde, nakit akış tablosu ile ilgili genel bilgiler, ülkemizde ve dünyada nakit akış tablosunun evreleri, nakit akış tablosunun önemi ve amacı, Finansal Tabloların Sunuluşu Standardı TMS 1, Nakit Akış Tablosu Standardı TMS 7, nakit akış tablosu formatları ve nakit akış tablosunun hazırlanma yöntemlerinden bahsedilmiştir. İkinci bölümde, nakit akış tablosunun analiz tekniklerinin tanımı verilmiş ve her bir analiz tekniği detaylı olarak incelenmiştir. Nakit akış tablosu oranlarının tanımı, hesaplanması ve firmaların nakit akış oranlarını nasıl yorumlamaları gerektiği konusunda bilgilere yer verilmiştir. Companies play one of the important roles in the society. In order for companies to continue their sustainability and for external sources to understand the financial situation of the companies it is necessary to properly analyze the cash flow statements that must be prepared. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the analytical techniques necessary for the accurate interpretation of the cash flow statement, mostly left out in the recent times, and to show that the analytical techniques will result in more realistic results for businesses when correctly interpreted. In the following study, the financial data of a public company was reached and the cash flow statement prepared according to the "IAS 7- Cash Flow Table" standard has been interpreted by applying the analysis methods. In the first part, general information about the cash flow, the stages of the cash flow chart in our country and in the world, importance of the cash flow table, “ IAS-7 Statement of Cash flows” and “IAS-1 Presentation of financial statements” were investigated.In addition to this, the methods of preparing the cash flow statement are discussed. In the second chapter, the description of the analytical techniques of the cash flow table is given and the details of the preparation of each analytical technique are discussed. In addition to this, also explained the definition and calculation of cash flow table ratios and how companies should interpret cash flow ratios. In the third section, cash flow table ratio analysis techniques and cash flow ratios are calculated for a company that is subject to the KAP and the financial status of the company is interpreted

    İmalat sanayinde büyük öneme sahip olan talaşlı imalat prosesinde istenilen, hassas tolerans aralığında ve düşük yüzey pürüzlülük değerlerinde parça imal edebilmek en önemli amaç olarak görülmektedir. Yüzey kalitesi ve ölçü tamlığı, temas ve etkileşim halinde çalışan makine parçalarının dayanımını ve performansını önemli derecede etkilemektedir. Bu çalışmalar esnasında CNC tornalama işlemi ile üretilen ve özellikle imalat sektöründe genişçe kullanım alanına sahip olan SAE 1040 malzemelerin geometrik tolerans değerlerinden silindiriklik, dairesellik ve doğrusallık değerleri analiz edilmiştir. Prosese etkisi yüksek olan bu bağımlı değişkenler üzerine etki eden, tornalama işlemlerinde büyük öneme sahip olan kesme parametre değişkenlerinin etkisi incelenmiştir. Deneyler DOOSAN Lynx 2100 CNC torna tezgâhında Q8 Brunel XF 450 soğutma sıvısı kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Takım tutucu olarak WIDIA DWLNR-2525M08 ve kesici uç olarak WNMG0804086P TN20P tercih edilmiştir. İşlemler üç farklı talaş derinliğinde (1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm), üç farklı kesme hızında (150 m/dak, 200 m/dak, 275 m/dak) ve üç farklı ilerlemede (0.15 mm/dev, 0.2 mm/dev, 0.24 mm/dev) gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deneyler sonrası elde edilen numune parçalarının silindiriklik, dairesellik ve düzlemsellik değerleri DEA GLOBAL CMM 3D ölçüm cihazında ölçülmüştür. Elde edilen verilerin değerlendirilmesi için, istatistiksel yöntem olan Taguchi metodu kullanılmıştır. Bu metot ile deneylere harcanacak zaman ve maliyetten tasarruf sağlanmış, deney sonuçlarından elde edilen veriler yorumlanmıştır. Ek olarak bağımlı ve bağımsız değişkenler arasındaki en etkili olan parametreleri belirlemek için varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır.In the machining process, which is of great importance in the manufacturing industry, the most crucial aim is to be able to manufacture parts in the desired sensitive tolerance range and low surface roughness values. Surface quality and dimensional accuracy significantly affect the strength and performance of machine parts operating in contact and interaction. During these studies, of the geometric tolerance values, cylindricality, circularity and linearity values of SAE 1040 materials, which are produced by the CNC turning process and are widely used primarily in the manufacturing sector, were analysed. The effect of cutting parameter variables, which have a high impact on the process and have great importance in turning operations, were investigated. The experiments were carried out on a DOOSAN Lynx 2100 CNC Lathe by using Q8 Brunel XF 450 coolant. WIDIA DWLNR-2525M08 as a tool holder and WNMG0804086P TN20P as a cutting insert were used. The operations were performed at three different depths of cut (1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm), three different cutting speeds (150 m/min, 200 m/min, 275 m/min), and three different feeds (150 m/rev), 200 m/rev, 240 m/rev). The cylindricality, circularity and linearity values of the sample parts obtained after the experiments were measured in the DEA GLOBAL CMM 3D measuring device. The Taguchi method, which is a statistical method, was used to evaluate the obtained data. With respect to the Taguchi method, time and cost savings were efficiently used, and the data obtained from the experiment were interpreted. In addition, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine the most influential parameters between dependent and independent variables

    Emerging Technologies and Family: A Cross-National Study of Family Clinicians’ Views

    Emerging technology adoption poses new challenges and opportunities to families and clinicians. Research that explores clinicians’ understanding and use of information-communication technologies; however, is still scarce. Our study, a replication of a cross-national study in four countries (Canada, Mexico, Spain, and the United States), investigated the relationship among clinicians’ use of and attitudes toward emerging technologies and their beliefs about technology’s impact on families in Turkey. We further inquired the relationship of two factors: the impact of emerging technology on the clinicians’ own families and the impact of cultural values on the attitudes toward technology use. The Turkish version of the modified Emerging Technologies and Families Survey was administered to family clinicians. The analytical strategy included a comparison of the data we collected in Turkey (n = 97) and the raw data from the original study (n = 258). We found significant cross-national differences in clinicians’ use of and attitudes toward information-communication technologies, and their assessments of families’ struggles with emerging technology. We analyzed the data vis-a-vis cultural differences and gave a special emphasis on implications for enhancing clinical practice
