This study examines whether or not asset allocation styles of unit trusts different from their original objectives over the study period and sub-periods, which are during and after the financial crisis. The period of study is six (6) years starting from January 2007 to December 2012 and has been divided into overall period from January 2007 to December 2012 and two sub-periods: financial crisis from January 2007 to December 2009 and post financial crisis from January 2010 to December 2012. This study uses MSCI Malaysia Growth Index, MSCI Malaysia Value Index, 1-month Kuala Lumpur Inter-bank Offer Rate (KLIBOR), TRBPAM Islamic Government Index, TRBPAM Islamic Corporate Index, MSCI World Index as benchmarks for asset classes. The total of 14 Islamic bond funds used as sample and analysed using Return Based Style Analysis (RBSA). The results show there are some unit trusts that have significant different styles when compared to their original objectives for overall period and two sub-periods, either during financial crisis or post financial crisis period. The variation in monthly returns for most of the funds for overall period and sub- periods mainly could be explained by the variation in their styles. The average style of overall period and two sub- periods shows that fund managers have focused their investment mainly in bonds, either the government or corporate bonds. However, there is a small proportion of investment is placed in asset classes such as equity and money market instruments. The average fund returns could be explained mainly by the variation in the funds’ styles

The article presents a reflective experience on the institutionalization of community-based research in Indonesian Islamic Higher Education. It comprises two case studies from two different universities, the Sunan Ampel State Islamic University Surabaya and the Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar. Both are the two selected partners within the Supporting Islamic Leadership in Indonesia (SILE)/Local Leadership Development (LLD) Project in partnership between Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and Canadian International Development Agency. The project introduces community-based research as an approach to engage community through Tridharma (Three mandates) of Higher Education. The institutionalization covers various activities from raising awareness, building capacity, to developing institutional policy at a national level. The cases show that the different socio-historical context and political dynamic of each campuses influence the process, challenge and response to the institutionalization. However, both campuses share similar reasons for adopting community-based research from the Islamic perspective, namely that using research as a means of promoting social change is consistent with the Qur’anic principles and the Prophetic tradition

This research is conducted to investigate the possibility of cellulose in Nypa Frutican Rachis to achieve thermal comfort. As Malaysia was known as tropical country which has hot and humid climate, this research focus on to study the transfer of heat through Nypa Frutican Rachis as a roof. Since only Nypa leaves have been used as a roof and have been applied until now in East Malaysia, this project uses an innovation of Nypa palm by using its rachis that contain chemical material that have lower thermal conductivity value such as cellulose and lignin as a roof or building envelope heat insulator. This paper described the experimental study method by measuring the temperature of outer and inner surface of Nypa Frutican Rachis on small physical model study. The temperature was measured by using Digital Infrared Thermometer. The average outer and inner tempe rature for five consecutive days was obtained from the experiment is highlighted. Results show that the average of heat loss and heat transfer conduction for five consecutive days are 9.63 W/h and 9.86 W. This experiment shows a good result and proved that Nypa Frutican Rachis is suitable and effective to be a building envelope heat insulator

Incorporation of kenaf core fibers into low density polyethylene/thermoplastic sago starch blends exposed to natural weathering

The landfill disposal of a high volume of plastics that take a long time to decompose has led to a tremendous environmental problem. Incorporation of natural polymers and fibers into synthetic polymers accelerates the degradation rate by exposure to atmospheric agents such as sunlight, temperature and rainfall. In this work, thermoplastic sago starch (TPSS) and kenaf core fibers (KCF) from agricultural feed stocks were blended with low density polyethylene (LDPE) for natural weathering studies. The melt-mixed and compressed composite sheets had fiber loadings ranging from 0 to 40 wt.%, and were exposed to natural weathering conditions for a period of 3 and 6 months. The deterioration in mechanical, thermal, morphological and weight properties were investigated

Cyber Harassment: Fenomena Hate Comment Di Era Pandemi Covid-19 Pada Akun Tik-Tok @Y***Q

The era of the covid-19 pandemic, the popularity of social media shows an increasingly significant trend, especially in Indonesia. This fact is directly proportional to the emergence of various kinds of social media that offer various interesting features, one of which is the Tik-Tok application. Along with its development, many internet citizens (netizens) have used the comment feature on the content presented in the Tik-Tok application. However, this feature is used as a vehicle for self-existence through comments that are vulnerable to being included in the cyber-harassment category. This article tries to elaborate on the case of cyber harassment in the Tik Tok application in the form of hate comments on the @y***q account that occurred during the covid-19 pandemic era. Based on the theoretical framework of Social Identity, it can be explained how the phenomenon of cyber harassment is present as a consequence of technological developments which ultimately leads to Kekerasan Berbasis Gender Online (KBGO). Tik-Tok as social media is not friendly in presenting a gendered space that is used by women to express themselves through video content wrapped in the existence of self-identity, opposing discrimination, and denying the perpetuation of the definition of beautiful women based on other people's constructions (netizens)

Influence of halloysite nanotubes hybridized with kenaf core fibers on the physical and mechanical properties of low density polyethylene/thermoplastic sago starch blends

    Get PDF
In this work, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) were hybridized with kenaf core fibers (KCF) to reinforce low density polyethylene (LDPE)/ thermoplastic sago starch (TPSS) blends. The effects of HNT loading (3–15wt.%) on the mechanical and physical properties were examined. The results showed an enhancement in tensile strength and modulus with the inclusion of HNTs. Formation of FTIR bands that are assigned to Al-OH and Si-O vibrations indicated the presence of HNTs in the system. Moreover, the thermal stability of hybrid compo- sites was improved with the addition of HNTs. Water uptake decreased as higher amount of HNTs imparted to the hybrid composites
