Success criteria for international joint ventures: the experience of Malaysian contractors in the Middle East
The overall objective of this paper is to produce success criteria considered critical in international joint ventures (IJV), specifically between Malaysian and foreign contractors outside Malaysia. The recognition of such criteria will contribute to the identification of non-viable projects and will enable improvements to be made to the IJV and other similar economies. Data specific to the present study was collected through face-to-face interviews, which were carried out with the General Manager of the respective companies to provide detailed information on their company structure, management and experience of any joint venture projects undertaken outside Malaysia. The main findings from the interviews are that the critical factors in IJV partner selection criteria were related to the reputation, inter-partner trust, experience, personal knowledge of the partner organizations, commitment and human resources management. The employment of Malaysian sub-contractors also lessened the complexity of management. This is largely due to the familiarity of working with fellow Malaysians in the Middle East

Visual Analytics of Event Data using Multiple Mining Methods
Most researchers use a single method of mining to analyze event data. This paper uses case studies from two very differentdomains (electronic health records and cybersecurity) to investigate how researchers can gain breakthrough insights by com-bining multiple event mining methods in a visual analytics workflow. The aim of the health case study was to identify patternsof missing values, which was daunting because the 615 million missing values occurred in 43,219 combinations of fields. How-ever, a workflow that involved exclusive set intersections (ESI), frequent itemset mining (FIM) and then two more ESI stepsallowed us to identify that 82% of the missing values were from just 244 combinations. The cybersecurity case study’s aim wasto understand users’ behavior from logs that contained 300 types of action, gathered from 15,000 sessions and 1,400 users.Sequential frequent pattern mining (SFPM) and ESI highlighted some patterns in common, and others that were not. For thelatter, SFPM stood out for its ability to action sequences that were buried within otherwise different sessions, and ESI detectedsubtle signals that were missed by SFPM. In summary, this paper demonstrates the importance of using multiple perspectives, complementary set mining methods and a diverse workflow when using visual analytics to analyze complex event data
Experimental study on mechanical properties of elastomer containing carbon nanotubes
Recently, elastomer reinforced with nanofillers have attracted great interest due to their properties. The incorporation of carbon nanotubes into elastomers improves significantly their mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were used to prepare natural rubber (NR) nanocomposites. Four different NR compounds containing CNTs were investigated. Compounds were prepared by a two roll mill with conventional and efficient cure systems. The properties of the nanocomposites such as tensile strength, tensile modulus and elongation at break were studied. Results obtained show that a smaller amount of CNTs can effectively improve the performance of NR. NR with 1% CNTs composites exhibited better tensile strength compared to other compounds. The study also indicated that filler materials effect on the mechanical properties of the blends
Loss quantization of reflectarray antenna based on organic substrate materials
This paper presents novel loss quantization of reflectarray elements based on organic substrate materials. Three differently composed substrate materials derived from recycled materials have been characterized for their dielectric properties using a broadband analysis technique. The materials show low dielectric permittivity values of 1.81, 1.62 and 1.84 for X-band frequency range. In order to estimate the reflection loss of for the three substrates a mathematical relation has been established using empirical data generated by computer simulated models. The reliability of the proposed model has been established by simulation and fabrication of unit reflectarray rectangular patch elements on three proposed substrate substrates. A broadband frequency response has been depicted by scattering parameter analysis of unit elements with 10% fractional bandwidth of 312, 340 and 207 MHz for RCP50, RCR75 and RNP50 substrate respectivel
