    Contrasting human perceptions of and attitudes towards two threatened small carnivores, Lycalopex fulvipes and Leopardus guigna, in rural communities adjacent to protected areas in Chile

    Indexación: Scopus.The interaction between humans and small carnivores is a phenomenon especially frequent in rural fringes, as is the case of communities surrounding natural areas. In Chile, two species of threatened carnivores, the Darwin's Fox and the Guigna, have increased their contact with humans due to human-induced changes in their habitat. The objective of this study was to characterize the interactions of these species with humans by assessing human perceptions and attitudes toward them, and to assess livestock and poultry ownership and management practices in local communities to evaluate their possible roles in the phenomenon. We conducted semi-structured interviews in rural communities adjacent to natural protected areas of two different regions in southern Chile. We found that people have a more positive perception of Darwin's Foxes than Guignas, but both species are considered damaging due to poultry attacks. Livestock and poultry management was generally deficient.     Generating Interpretable Fuzzy Systems for Classification Problems

    En este artículo se presenta un nuevo método para generar sistemas difusos interpretables, a partir de datos experimentalesde entrada y salida, para resolver problemas de clasificación. En la partición antecedente se emplean conjuntos triangulares con interpolación de 0.5 lo cual evita la presencia de solapamientos complejos que suceden en otros métodos. Los consecuentes, tipo Singleton, son generados por la proyección de los valores modales de cada función de membresía triangular en el espacio de salida y se emplea el método de mínimos cuadrados para el ajuste de los consecuentes. El método propuesto consigue una mayor precisión que la alcanzada con los métodos actuales existentes, empleando un número reducido de reglas y parámetros y sin sacrificar la interpretabilidad del modelo difuso. El enfoque propuesto es aplicado a dos problemas clásicos de clasificación: el Wisconsin Breast Cancer (WBC) y el Iris Data Classification Problem, para mostrar las ventajas del método y comparar los resultados con los alcanzados por otros investigadores.This paper presents a new method to generate interpretable fuzzy systems from training data to deal with classification problems. The antecedent partition uses triangular sets with 0.5 interpolations avoiding the presence of complex overlapping that happens in another method. Singleton consequents are generated form the projection of the modal values of each triangular membership function into the output space. Least square method is used to adjust the consequents. The proposed method gets a higher average classification accuracy rate than the existing methods with a reduced number of rules andparameters and without sacrificing the fuzzy system interpretability. The proposed approach is applied to two classical classification problems: Iris data and the Wisconsin Breast Cancer classification problem

    Social Representations of Bogota - Colombia Inhabitants Regarding a Conditional Cash Transfer Policy

    The current article shows the development of a research process whose main objective was to explain the influence of the social representations of the inhabitants of Bogotá, Colombia in the implementation of the public policy of conditional cash transfers “Más Familias en Acción.” For this aim, a qualitative study of hermeneutic design was conducted with beneficiaries of the program and non-beneficiaries, in which, through the application of semi-structured interviews, the most frequent social representations about subsidies, policies, work, education, health, among other relevant issues related to this public policy were identified and once the information was coded by using the Atlas.ti software, interpretation of results was done making possible to establish a relationship between the social representations found and the implementation of “Más Familias en Acción,” leading to the understanding of how social representations as sets of ideas, values and practices that become a social code that denominates the individual and collective reality, have influence both in the way in which the beneficiaries of the program conceive their social reality, and in the sense they give to the program, as well as in their articulation and interaction with it, enabling its implementation, which may or may not occur according to the objectives of public policy

    Genetic Variability Between Adapted Populations of Annual Ryegrass (\u3cem\u3eLolium Multiflorum\u3c/em\u3e Lam) In Argentina

    Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) is one of the most important annual grasses used in Argentina because it adapts better to the intensive animal system of the Humid Pampas than other annual forage grass. Although much research has been done to study its productive potential and management technologies, little work has focused on breeding and selection. There is ample evidence that genetic variability occurs within grass species (Snaydon, 1987; Andrés and Barufaldi, 1997) both in morphology and physiology. As a result the variation of attributes related with yield potential, quality and adaptation to different management systems, is often used in plant breeding to develop new varieties. The objective of this work was to evaluate the genetic variability between 32 populations of annual ryegrass adapted to different grassland environments in the Humid Pampas Region of Argentina as an introductory part of a breeding programme at INTA. The final aim of this programme is to provide new varieties of annual ryegrass adapted to different management systems

    Knot commensurability and the Berge conjecture

    We investigate commensurability classes of hyperbolic knot complements in the generic case of knots without hidden symmetries. We show that such knot complements which are commensurable are cyclically commensurable, and that there are at most 33 hyperbolic knot complements in a cyclic commensurability class. Moreover if two hyperbolic knots have cyclically commensurable complements, then they are fibered with the same genus and are chiral. A characterisation of cyclic commensurability classes of complements of periodic knots is also given. In the non-periodic case, we reduce the characterisation of cyclic commensurability classes to a generalization of the Berge conjecture.Comment: v3: This version is reorganized with minor errors fixed.
