Lasers for coherent optical satellite links with large dynamics

We present the experimental realization of a laser system for ground to satellite optical Doppler ranging at the atmospheric turbulence limit. Such a system needs to display good frequency stability (a few parts in 10^{-14}) whilst allowing large and well controlled frequency sweeps of +/- 12 GHz at rates exceeding 100 MHz/s. Furthermore it needs to be sufficiently compact and robust for transportation to different astronomical observation sites where it is to be interfaced with satellite ranging telescopes. We demonstrate that our system fulfills those requirements and should therefore allow operation of ground to low Earth orbit satellite coherent optical links limited only by atmospheric turbulence

The problem of this study is to reveal how the struggle for love in major character. The objectives of the study is to analyze the major character in Hitch movie based on Individual Psychological Approach. The study is a literary study, which can be categorized into a descriptive qualitative study. The object of this study is Hitch movie. The data sources are primary and secondary data sources. The primary data source is the movie Hitch script and the secondary data sources are related to the primary data that support the analysis such as some books of psychology and website related to the research. The method used for collecting data is library research and documentation. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis. The structural elements of the movie bring us to take a close view at how the movie embodies and shows all the events. It can be divided into eleven; namely, characters and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, theme, casting, mise_en_scene, cinematography, sound and editing. Based on the analysis, the writer concludes that the problem faced by the major character is struggle to get his love, the writer use individual psychological perspective such as: Inferiority Feeling, Striving for Superiority, Fictional Finalism, Style of Life, Social Interest, and Creative Power. Based on An Individual Psychological aspects shown in the film, the writer then concludes that literary work reflects the condition of person who has a dream or goal and his struggle to get i

A coherent optical link through the turbulent atmosphere

We describe the realization of a 5 km free space coherent optical link through the turbulent atmosphere between a telescope and a ground target. We present the phase noise of the link, limited mainly by atmospheric turbulence and mechanical vibrations of the telescope and the target. We discuss the implications of our results for applications, with particular emphasis on optical Doppler ranging to satellites and long distance frequency transfer.Comment: version 2, modified following comments from colleagues and reviewer

CW frequency doubling of 1029 nm radiation Using single pass bulk and waveguide PPLN crystals

Following various works on second harmonic process using periodically poled Lithium Niobate crystals (PPLN), we report on the performances comparison between commercial bulk and waveguide crystals at 1029 nm. We use a continuous wave (CW) amplified Yb doped single fibre laser delivering up to 500mW in single mode regime. In case of bulk crystal we generate 4 mW using 400 mW IR power. The use of waveguide crystal leads to an increase of the harmonic power up to 33mW with input IR power limited to 200mW. Nevertheless, this impressive efficiency was affected by the long term degradation of the non-linear waveguide crystal

Comparison of Molecular Iodine Spectral Properties at 514.7 and 532 nm Wavelengths

    No full text
International audienceWe present results of investigation and comparison of spectral properties of molecular iodine transitions in the spectral region of 514.7 nm that are suitable for laser frequency stabilization and metrology of length. Eight Doppler-broadened transitions that were not studied in detail before were investigated with the help of frequency doubled Yb-doped fiber laser, and three of the most promising lines were studied in detail with prospect of using them in frequency stabilization of new laser standards. The spectral properties of hyperfine components (linewidths, signal-to-noise ratio) were compared with transitions that are well known and traditionally used for stabilization of frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser at the 532 nm region with the same molecular iodine absorption. The external frequency doubling arrangement with waveguide crystal and the Yb-doped fiber laser is also briefly described together with the observed effect of laser aging

Towards an optical lattice clock based on neutral mercury

    Get PDF
We are investigating the possibilities of using neutral mercury as a new species to realize a highly accurate atomic clock using the non-perturbing dipole lattice trapping scheme. Typically, accuracy below 10-17 is targeted, which would make neutral mercury an interesting candidate for a redefinition of the SI second. This paper presents our on-going work towards the realization of an optical lattice clock using neutral mercury. We will describe a 254 nm laser source delivering several hundreds of milliWatts at this wavelength with a suitably low frequency noise for laser cooling and magneto-optic trapping. We will describe our vacuum system for magneto-optic trap and report on the status of our work regarding magneto-optic trapping of mercury. We will also describe our clock laser at 266 nm.Institut Francilien de Recherche sur les Atomes Froids (IFRAF)Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES

Experimental study of radiative shocks at PALS facility

We report on the investigation of strong radiative shocks generated with the high energy, sub-nanosecond iodine laser at PALS. These shock waves are characterized by a developed radiative precursor and their dynamics is analyzed over long time scales (~50 ns), approaching a quasi-stationary limit. We present the first preliminary results on the rear side XUV spectroscopy. These studies are relevant to the understanding of the spectroscopic signatures of accretion shocks in Classical T Tauri Stars.Comment: 21 pages, 1 table, 7 figure
