    Get PDF

Modified plasma waves described by a logarithmic electrodynamics

    Get PDF
The propagation of plasma waves in a new non-linear, logarithmic electrodynamics model is performed. A cold, uniform, collisionless fluid plasma model is applied. Electrostatic waves in magnetized plasma are shown to correspond to modified Trivelpiece-Gould modes, together with changes of the plasma and upper-hybrid frequencies, driven by the logarithmic electrodynamics effects. Electromagnetic waves are described by a generalized Appleton-Hartree dispersion relation. The cases of propagation parallel or perpendicular to the equilibrium magnetic field are analyzed in detail. In particular, generalized ordinary and extraordinary modes are obtained. We determine the changes, due to logarithmic electrodynamics, in the allowable and forbidden frequency bands of the new extraordinary mode. Estimates are provided about the strength of the ambient magnetic field, so that the non-linear electrodynamics effects become decisive

The Influence of Demoiselle Aircraft on Light and General Aviation Design

    Get PDF
In 1907, aviation pioneer Santos-Dumont had the idea of building a very light airplane. He designed and built the SD19, the \ud Demoiselle, an aircraft with a 6 meter wing span and a 24 HP engine of his own design. The Demoiselle was very successful in flying \ud and, became very popular and its development continued as SD20, SD21 and SD22 (his last airplane). The influence of the Demoiselle \ud on design principles of light aircraft and general aviation were studied in this work, using statistical entropy. The designs number 20 \ud and 22 may be considered dominant and influenced the design principles of light aircraft and general aviation

The desire to go even further in eradicating poverty in all aspects, dealing with climate change and eliminating inequalities has established the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September 2915. The world leader adopted it at the historic UN summit. Malaysia has long sought to achieve the 2030 Agenda. The satisfaction degree of accomplishment of sustainable development the still low. Thus, this paper aims to shed light on the trend of sustainable development goals in Malaysia, which provides the community with information on a council's sustainable development goals. This has concluded Malaysia's three main SDG patterns, including reducing inequalities, climate action, and zero hunger. This study has concluded that the SDGs are crucial for achieving a better quality of life and sustainability. The SDGs' achievement does not solely depend on the government and its responsibility to all stakeholders. It is suggested that the better improvement of SDGs and better achievement, this study argue that government, industry, community and civil society organisations to work together to achieve shared and sustainable prosperity

What is Missing for Traditional Design-Centric Engineering Education to Better Prepare Newly Graduated Engineers for the Global Era?

    Get PDF
This paper presents an analysis of the capacity of design centric methodologies to prepare engineering students to succeed in the market. Gaps are brainstormed and analyzed with reference to their importance. Reasons that may lead the newly graduated engineers not to succeed right from the beginning of their professional lives have also been evaluated. A comparison among the two subjects above was prepared, reviewed and analyzed. The influence of multidisciplinary, multicultural and complex environmental influences created in the current global business era is taken into account. The industry requirements in terms of what they expect to 'receive' from their engineers are evaluated and compared to the remaining of the study above. An innovative approach to current engineering education that utilizes traditional design-centric methodologies is then proposed, aggregating new disciplines to supplement the traditional engineering education. The solution encompasses the inclusion of disciplines from Human Sciences and Emotional Intelligence fields willing to better prepare the engineer of tomorrow to work in a multidisciplinary, globalized, complex and team working environment. A pilot implementation of such an approach is reviewed and conclusions are drawn from this educational project

    Get PDF
This article is the result of a doctoral thesis in Education. The question that guided the study was: which knowledge base predominates among the professors graduated in Music who teach at Music courses at the three São Paulo state universities and which knowledge need to be developed in the search for the quality of teaching in order to overcome a pedagogical action based on the logic of instrumental teaching instead of training that goes beyond learning a particular musical instrument? Supported by the qualitative paradigm, three types of data collection were carried out: online questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, and participant observations. The analysis was based on Bardin's (2011) content analysis assumptions. The theoretical framework was built on the ideas of authors in the field of Education and Music Education, such as Tardif (2014); Gauthier, Martineau, Desbiens, Malo and Simard (2013); Azevedo (2009) and Araújo (2005). In the final considerations, we highlight the importance of unveiling knowledge base teaching, contributing to the pedagogical action of teachers who work in music courses, since their professional actions are linked to teaching and not just to the instrumentalist action of teaching. In this sense more studies and researches are urgently needed to advance the teaching qualification of music teachers in higher education.

Gravitational spectrum of black holes in the Einstein-Aether theory

Evolution of gravitational perturbations, both in time and frequency domains, is considered for a spherically symmetric black hole in the non-reduced Einstein-Aether theory. It is shown that real oscillation frequency and damping rate are larger for the Einstein-Aether black hole than for the Schwarzschild black hole. This may provide an opportunity to observe aether in the forthcoming experiments with new generation of gravitational antennas.Comment: 4 pages, RevTex, to be published in Phys. Lett.
