    Scientific Production in Children's Literatura Through the Web of Science

    Children's literature has raised the interest of different disciplines and has strongly emerged not only in society but also in school and university curricula. This paper aims to analyse production in children's literature and determine the discipline's scientific activity published in international scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science. A total of 1,558 papers published in 474 journals were retrieved. The results show an increase in the number of papers on children's literature over time. Document typology was highly diverse, scientific articles and book reviews accounting for more than 85% of the total production. Lion and the Unicorn, Children's Literature in Education, and International Research in Children's Literature were the journals with the highest production. The journals analysed were classified under 96 different subject categories, Literature and Educational research being the areas with the largest number of publications

    Blitzkrieg against democracy: gender equality and the rise of the populist radical right in Spain

    Populist radical right parties (PRRPs) are generally considered detrimental to democracy. Research on their damaging potential tends to focus on their influence in triggering policy backsliding but leaves the promotion of gender equality out of the equation. This study explores the case of Vox in Andalusia, a southern region of Spain, to show how PRRPs also contribute to de-democratization through their capacity to erode the equality framework. We demonstrate how they can effectively dismantle and reframe crucial policies, even when not in office.     ADM Pseudotensors, Conserved Quantities and Covariant Conservation Laws in General Relativity

    The ADM formalism is reviewed and techniques for decomposing generic components of metric, connection and curvature are obtained. These techniques will turn out to be enough to decompose not only Einstein equations but also covariant conservation laws. Then a number of independent sets of hypotheses that are sufficient (though non-necessary) to obtain standard ADM quantities (and Hamiltonian) from covariant conservation laws are considered. This determines explicitely the range in which standard techniques are equivalent to covariant conserved quantities. The Schwarzschild metric in different coordinates is then considered, showing how the standard ADM quantities fail dramatically in non-Cartesian coordinates or even worse when asymptotically flatness is not manifest; while, in view of their covariance, covariant conservation laws give the correct result in all cases.Comment: 40 page

    Ultraviolet spectra of extreme nearby star-forming regions --- approaching a local reference sample for JWST

    Nearby dwarf galaxies provide a unique laboratory in which to test stellar population models below Z/2Z_\odot/2. Such tests are particularly important for interpreting the surprising high-ionization UV line emission detected at z>6z>6 in recent years. We present HST/COS ultraviolet spectra of ten nearby metal-poor star-forming galaxies selected to show He II emission in SDSS optical spectra. The targets span nearly a dex in gas-phase oxygen abundance (7.8<12+logO/H<8.57.8<12+\log\mathrm{O/H}<8.5) and present uniformly large specific star formation rates (sSFR 102\sim 10^2 Gyr1\mathrm{Gyr}^{-1}). The UV spectra confirm that metal-poor stellar populations can power extreme nebular emission in high-ionization UV lines, reaching C III] equivalent widths comparable to those seen in systems at z67z\sim 6-7. Our data reveal a marked transition in UV spectral properties with decreasing metallicity, with systems below 12+logO/H8.012+\log\mathrm{O/H}\lesssim 8.0 (Z/Z1/5Z/Z_\odot \lesssim 1/5) presenting minimal stellar wind features and prominent nebular emission in He II and C IV. This is consistent with nearly an order of magnitude increase in ionizing photon production beyond the He+\mathrm{He^+}-ionizing edge relative to H-ionizing flux as metallicity decreases below a fifth solar, well in excess of standard stellar population synthesis predictions. Our results suggest that often neglected sources of energetic radiation such as stripped binary products and very massive O-stars produce a sharper change in the ionizing spectrum with decreasing metallicity than expected. Consequently, nebular emission in C IV and He II powered by these stars may provide useful metallicity constraints in the reionization era.Comment: 27 pages, 13 figures, 11 tables, accepted for publication in MNRA

    Insights into the potential carcinogenicity of micro- and nano-plastics

    There is a growing concern regarding the potential health effects that continuous exposure to environmental micro- and nano-plastics (MNPLs) may cause on humans. Due to their persistent nature, MNPLs may accumulate in different organs and tissues and may induce in the long term the development of cancer. The present study aimed to review the existing literature on the carcinogenic potential of MNPLs. As studies directly assessing carcinogenicity were expected to be scarce, studies dealing with indirect outcomes associated with the carcinogenic process were considered in the literature search. Of the 126 studies screened, 19 satisfied the inclusion criteria. Besides, 7 additional cross-referenced articles, identified through a careful reading of the previously selected papers, also met the inclusion criteria and, consequently, were included in the review. Most of the selected studies were performed using in vitro models whereas about 40% of the studies were done in rodents, although none of them included a 2-year carcinogenicity assay. Most of the reviewed studies pointed out the potential of MNPLs to induce inflammation and genotoxicity, the latter being recognized as a strong predictor of carcinogenicity. These, along with other important findings such as the MNPLs’ ability to accumulate into cells and tissues, or their capacity to induce fibrosis, may suggest an association between MNPLs exposures and the carcinogenic potential. Nevertheless, the limited number of available studies precludes reaching clear conclusions. Therefore, this review also provides several recommendations to cover the current knowledge gaps and address the future evaluation of the MNPLs’ carcinogenic risk

Ernani Fornari was an influent personality in the Modernism in Rio Grande do Sul. Through &quot;Trem da Serra&quot; - a colonial poem from the Italian region &ndash; he expressed some of the most decisive aspects of Modernist doctrine, incorporating local language, dialoguing with other arts, accepting the speed of changes and presenting a unique view over the landscape and history that are part of Rio Grande do Sul&rsquo;s mountain range.&nbsp;Na tentativa de recuperar os estudos de modernismo no Rio Grande do Sul.
