    Partial Discharge Characterization based on Leakage Current Pulses Waveform for Contaminated Glass Insulator String

    This paper deals with the analysis of partial discharge (PD) occurrences based on leakage current (LC) pulses distribution under different level of contamination. In this work, laboratory based contamination performance tests are conducted on four units of glass insulator string stacked in I-position. Results show that PD can be characterized (according to their occurrence with respect to the AC supply) as follows: corona discharge occurring dominantly in lightly contaminated insulators, surface discharge occurring dominantly in medium contaminated insulators and finally internal discharge occurring dominantly in heavily contaminated insulators. The ability to distinguish the type of PDs from the LC waveform could be used to monitor and predict the condition of the insulator. The outcome can be incorporated in a conditioning monitoring system

    Removal of carbamazepine onto modified zeolitic tuff in different water matrices: Batch and continuous flow experiments

    Carbamazepine (CBZ) is the most frequently detected pharmaceutical residues in aquatic environments effluent by wastewater treatment plants. Batch and column experiments were con-ducted to evaluate the removal of CBZ from ultra-pure water and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent using raw zeolitic tuff (RZT) and surfactant modified zeolite (SMZ). Point zero net charge (pHpzc), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) were investigated for adsorbents to evaluate the physiochemical changes resulted from the modification process using Hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDTMA-Br). XRD and FTIR showed that the surfactant modification of RZT has created an amorphous surface with new alkyl groups on the surface. The pHpzc was determined to be approximately 7.9 for RZT and SMZ. The results indicated that the CBZ uptake by SMZ is higher than RZT in all sorption tests (\u3e8 fold). Batch results showed that the sorption capacity of RZT and SMZ in WWTP effluent (0.029 and 0.25 mg/g) is higher than RZT and SMZ (0.018 and 0.14 mg/g) in ultrapure water (1.6–1.8 fold). Batch tests showed that the equilibrium time of CBZ removal in the WWTP matrix (47 h) is much longer than CBZ removal in ultrapure water. The sorption capacity of RZT & SMZ in WWTP effluent (0.03, 0.33 mg/g) is higher than RZT and SMZ (0.02 and 0.17 mg/g) in ultrapure water (1.5–2 fold) using column test. This study has clearly demonstrated that the performance of RZT and SMZ is more efficient for the removal of CBZ from realistic wastewater than ultrapure water. It is evident that the surfactant modification of RZT has enhanced the CBZ removal in both matrices

    Contingency Analysis of a Power Grid with the Participation of Utility-Scale Solar PV Units: A Case Study from Sarawak, Malaysia

    Integrating renewable energy resources (RER) into the power grid may jeopardize the whole power system if the penetration level or solar PV uncertainty is not thoroughly managed. The critical impact on the behaviour of power system can be observed during the line outage in a power grid connected with large-scale RER. Therefore, contingency analysis (CA) is crucial to assess such hybrid power grid. This paper proposes a framework based on CA to assess the simultaneous effect of large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants integrated with the existing power grid, particularly, in the aspects of implementing effective measuring indices. Simulation studies have been carried out on a practical power system, which was modelled by considering the probability of solar irradiance at different locations in Sarawak. The study presented in this paper can provide an insight to identify the level of insecurity for a large-scale deployment of solar PV systems in Sarawak

    Simple broadband circularly polarized monopole antenna with two asymmetrically connected U-shaped parasitic strips and defective ground plane

    A simple compact broadband circularly polarized monopole antenna, which comprises a simple monopole, a modified ground plane with an implementing triangular stub and two asymmetrically connected U-shaped parasitic strips, is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed compact antenna (0.62λo×0.68λo) achieves a 10-dB impedance bandwidth (IBW) of 111% (1.7 to 5.95 GHz) and a 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 61% (3.3–6.2 GHz) with a peak gain between 2.9–4 dBi for the entire ARBW. With its broad IBW and ARBW, compact size and simple structure, the proposed antenna is suitable for different wireless communications

Among the non-genetically manipulated neuroinflammation models for AD, lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced animal model is commonly used. This review paper aims to discuss the possible factors that influence rats’ response following LPS injection.     Assessing stir bar sorptive extraction for triazine herbicides extraction by using a central composite design approach

    A (PDMS)-coated stir bar was prepared for a glass jacket-free stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) configuration by adhesion technique for the extraction of triazine herbicides prior to quantification using a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID). A central composite design (CCD) was used in the optimization of extraction and desorption conditions. At optimum conditions, values of factors were set as pH 8.5, with no addition of NaCl, for 25 minutes of extraction time, and 24 minutes of desorption time. Under optimal experimental conditions, the proposed method has linear ranges at 0.1 – 100 µgL-1 with correlation of determination (R2), ranging from 0.9991 – 0.9995, respectively. The limit of detection (LODs) and limit of quantification (LOQs) of three triazines were found to be ranging from 0.015 – 0.023 µgL-1 and 0.047 – 0.060 µgL-1, respectively

    Adaptive multi-polling scheduler for QoS support of video transmission in IEEE 802.11e WLANs

    The 802.11E Task Group has been established to enhance quality of service (QoS) provision for time-bounded services in the current IEEE 802.11 medium access control protocol. The QoS is introduced throughout hybrid coordination function controlled channel access (HCCA) for the rigorous QoS provision. In HCCA, the station is allocated a fixed transmission opportunity (TXOP) based on its TSPEC parameters so that it is efficient for constant bit rate streams. However, as the profile of variable bit rate traffics is inconstant, they are liable to experience a higher delay especially in bursty traffic case. In this paper, we present a dynamic TXOP assignment algorithm called adaptive multi-polling TXOP scheduling algorithm (AMTXOP) for supporting the video traffics transmission over IEEE 802.11e wireless networks. This scheme invests a piggybacked information about the size of the subsequent video frames of the uplink streams to assist the hybrid coordinator accurately assign the TXOP according to actual change in the traffic profile. The proposed scheduler is powered by integrating multi-polling scheme to further reduce the delay and polling overhead. Extensive simulation experiments have been carried out to show the efficiency of the AMTXOP over the existing schemes in terms of the packet delay and the channel utilization

    An adaptive delayed acknowledgment strategy to improve TCP performance in multi-hop wireless networks.

    In multi-hop wireless networks, transmission control protocol (TCP) suffers from performance deterioration due to poor wireless channel characteristics. Earlier studies have shown that the small TCP acknowledgments consume as much wireless resources as the long TCP data packets. Moreover, generating an acknowledgment (ACK) for each incoming data packet reduces the performance of TCP. The main factor affecting TCP performance in multi-hop wireless networks is the contention and collision between ACK and data packets that share the same path. Thus, lowering the number of ACKs using the delayed acknowledgment option defined in IETF RFC 1122 will improve TCP performance. However, large cumulative ACKs will induce packet loss due to retransmission time-out at the sender side of TCP. Motivated by this understanding, we propose a new TCP receiver with an adaptive delayed ACK strategy to improve TCP performance in multi-hop wireless networks. Extensive simulations have been done to prove and evaluate our strategy over different topologies. The simulation results demonstrate that our strategy can improve TCP performance significantly

Family doctors need to be able to identify potentially fatal dermatological disorders quickly since they could be the first to encounter patients with these illnesses. The purpose of this review is to provide guidance for early recognition, help identify distinct symptoms, and enable early diagnosis of emerging dermatological conditions. Necrotizing fasciitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and other possible emergencies that might manifest as dermatological symptoms are examples of these conditions.
