Nova V5116 Sgr and searching for superhumps in nova remnants
We present the period analysis of unfiltered photometric observations of
V5116 Sgr (Nova Sgr 2005 #2) and we search for superhump candidates in novae
remnants. The PDM method for period analysis is used. The masses of the novae
componets are estimated from the secondary mass -- orbital period and primary
mass -- decline time relations. We found that 13 nights of V5116 Sgr
observations in the year 2006 are modulated with a period of d ( h). Following the shape of the phased light
curves and no apparent change in the value of the periodicity in different
subsamples of the data, we interpret the period as orbital in nature. The
binary system then falls within the period gap of the orbital period
distribution of cataclysmic variables. From the maximum magnitude -- rate of
decline relation, we estimate the maximum absolute visual magnitude of mag using the measured value of decline d. The mass-period relation for cataclysmic variables yields a
secondary mass estimate of about . We
propose that V5116 Sgr is a high inclination system showing an irradiation
effect of the secondary star. No fully developed accretion disc up to the tidal
radius with the value lower than cm is probable. The mass ratio
was estimated in a few novae and the presence or absence of superhumps in these
systems was compared with the mass ratio limit for superhumps of about 0.35. We
found that in the majority of novae with expected superhumps, this variability
has not been found yet. Therefore, more observations of these systems is
encouraged.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in A&
Chemical characterization, antioxidant properties and enzyme inhibition of Rutabaga root's pulp and peel (Brassica napus L.)
Abstract Rutabaga (Brassica napus L.) belonging to Brassicaceae family, is a rich source of polyphenols and glucosinolates. Its consumption in human diet is highly appreciated for its nutritional contribution and health benefits. Brassica napus L. is recognized as the world's most widely grown temperate oilseed crop containing erucic acid for industrial applications, plants germination, animal feed and fuel. In this work we prepared two different extracts of Rutabaga root's pulp and peel, e.g. ultrasound assisted extract (UAE) and homogenizer assisted extract (HAE). The four extracts have been analyzed by HPLC-MS to assess the phytochemical characterization and tested by antioxidant and enzyme inhibitor assays. Rutabaga pulp and peel extracts possess tyrosinase and glucosidase inhibitory activities together with a moderate antioxidant ability. Our results show a high level of glucosinolates, in particular neoglucobrassicin in the peel extract, which let us suppose a potential application as crop in industry and as supplement in human diet
Plasma levels of soluble TREM2 and neurofilament light chain in TREM2 rare variant carriers
Background: Results from recent clinical studies suggest that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers that are indicative of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) can be replicated in blood, e.g. amyloid-beta peptides (Aβ42 and Aβ40) and neurofilament light chain (NFL). Such data proposes that blood is a rich source of potential biomarkers reflecting central nervous system pathophysiology and should be fully explored for biomarkers that show promise in CSF. Recently, soluble fragments of the triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (sTREM2) protein in CSF have been reported to be increased in prodromal AD and also in individuals with TREM2 rare genetic variants that increase the likelihood of developing dementia. /
Methods: In this study, we measured the levels of plasma sTREM2 and plasma NFL using the MesoScale Discovery and single molecule array platforms, respectively, in 48 confirmed TREM2 rare variant carriers and 49 non-carriers. /
Results: Our results indicate that there are no changes in plasma sTREM2 and NFL concentrations between TREM2 rare variant carriers and non-carriers. Furthermore, plasma sTREM2 is not different between healthy controls, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or AD. /
Conclusion: Concentrations of plasma sTREM2 do not mimic the recent changes found in CSF sTREM2

Studies of Bs2∗(5840)0 and Bs1(5830)0 mesons including the observation of the Bs2∗(5840)0→B0KS0 decay in proton-proton collisions at s=8TeV.
Measurements of Bs2∗(5840)0 and Bs1(5830)0 mesons are performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of , collected with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 8TeV . The analysis studies P-wave Bs0 meson decays into B(∗)+K- and B(∗)0KS0 , where the B+ and B0 mesons are identified using the decays B+→J/ψK+ and B0→J/ψK∗(892)0 . The masses of the P-wave Bs0 meson states are measured and the natural width of the Bs2∗(5840)0 state is determined. The first measurement of the mass difference between the charged and neutral B∗ mesons is also presented. The Bs2∗(5840)0 decay to B0KS0 is observed, together with a measurement of its branching fraction relative to the Bs2∗(5840)0→B+K- decay
Study of the B +→ J / ψ Λ ¯ p decay in proton-proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV
A study of the B +→ J / ψ Λ ¯ p decay using proton-proton collision data collected at s = 8 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb−1, is presented. The ratio of branching fractions B(B+→J/ψΛ¯p)/B(B+→J/ψK∗(892)+) is measured to be (1.054 ± 0.057(stat) ± 0.035(syst) ± 0.011(B))%, where the last uncertainty reflects the uncertainties in the world-average branching fractions of Λ ¯ and K*(892) + decays to reconstructed final states. The invariant mass distributions of the J / ψ Λ ¯ , J/ψp, and Λ ¯ p systems produced in the B +→ J / ψ Λ¯ p decay are investigated and found to be inconsistent with the pure phase space hypothesis. The analysis is extended by using a model-independent angular amplitude analysis, which shows that the observed invariant mass distributions are consistent with the contributions from excited kaons decaying to the Λ ¯ p system.
