Research on the influence of the lecture and discussion methods on youth in the da'wah process using experiments through lectures and discussions, the sample used was 60 teenagers with analysis of grouping test items, pretest, treatment, posttest and Chi Square Test. Based on the research results, namely; The lecture method has an effect on increasing the religious knowledge of teenagers in the Fastabiqul Khaerat Study Group, the dissection method has an effect on increasing the religious knowledge of the teenagers in the Fastabiqul Khaerat Study Group. Although the lectgture method and the discussion method have an influence on increasing the religious knowledge of teenagers in the da'wah process, there are differences in influence between the two methods. The results of the descriptive-inferential statistical test showed that the discussion method was more effective than the lecture method in increasing the religious knowledge of teenagers who took part in da'wah at the Fastabiqul Khaerat Study Group. This is evidenced by the existence of a significant difference between the average posttest score for adolescents who follow the da'wah using the lecture method and the posttest average score for adolescents who follow the da'wah using the discussion method. In this case, the posttest mean of the discussion group was convincingly higher than that of the lecture grou

This paper compares ASIC and FPGA implementations of two commonly used architectures for 2-dimensional discrete cosine transform (DCT), the parallel and folded architectures. The DCT has been designed for sizes 4x4, 8x8, and 16x16, and implemented on Silterra 180nm ASIC and Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA. The objective is to determine suitable low energy architectures to be used as their characteristics greatly differ in terms of cells usage, placement and routing methods on these platforms. The parallel and folded DCT architectures for all three sizes have been designed using Verilog HDL, including the basic serializer-deserializer input and output. Results show that for large size transform of 16x16, ASIC parallel architecture results in roughly 30% less energy compared to folded architecture. As for FPGAs, folded architecture results in roughly 34% less energy compared to parallel architecture. In terms of overall energy consumption between 180nm ASIC and Xilinx Ultrascale, ASIC implementation results in about 58% less energy compared to the FPGA

Heuristic-based programable controller for efficient energy management under renewable energy sources and energy storage system in smart grid

    Get PDF
An operative and versatile household energy management system is proposed to develop and implement demand response (DR) projects. These are under the hybrid generation of the energy storage system (ESS), photovoltaic (PV), and electric vehicles (EVs) in the smart grid (SG). Existing household energy management systems cannot offer its users a choice to ensure user comfort (UC) and not provide a sustainable solution in terms of reduced carbon emission. To tackle these problems, this research work proposes a heuristic-based programmable energy management controller (HPEMC) to manage the energy consumption in residential buildings to minimize electricity bills, reduce carbon emissions, maximize UC and reduce the peak-to-average ratio (PAR). We used our proposed hybrid genetic particle swarm optimization (HGPO) algorithm and existing algorithms like a genetic algorithm (GA), binary particle swarm optimization algorithm (BPSO), ant colony optimization (ACO), wind-driven optimization algorithm (WDO), bacterial foraging algorithm (BFA) to schedule smart appliances optimally to attain our desired objectives. In the proposed model, consumers use solar panels to produce their energy from microgrids. We also perform MATLAB simulations to validate our proposed HGPO-HPEMC (HHPEMC), and results confirm the efficiency and productivity of our proposed HPEMC based strategy. The proposed algorithm reduced the electricity cost by 25.55%, PAR by 36.98%, and carbon emission by 24.02% as compared to the case of without scheduling

Scalability enhancement for cloud-based applications using software oriented methods

    Get PDF
Scalability refers to the ability of a system to handle resource utilization in a constant and smooth fashion when high or low volume of data is applied. It is among the key attractions for migration to a cloud based infrastructure. Most of the previous studies in this area are based on the enhancement of cloud scalability in terms of hardware resources and network infrastructure However in this case the cost of additional hardware resources and expansion of network infrastructural components to improve the cloud scalability is a major hurdle. Improving scalability of software on cloud platform by improving the software design is very less explored area. This paper focuses on two major concepts that involve measuring of software scalability using different methods and secondly exploring the software design based approaches to improve scalability. At the end, researchers have also explored the use of software design patterns to enhance scalability and flexibility in software applications on available cloud platforms especially Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)

Seismic microzonation map for a fixed-jacket platform in the Malay Basin

    Get PDF
The existence of soft soil in offshore areas may lead to the amplification of vibration received from offshore facilities, especially from the existing fixed-jacket platforms, which were designed without provision to seismicity, as in Malaysian water. Therefore, this study was designed to develop a seismic microzonation map and a soil amplification factor map according to soil type, we propose horizontal response spectra and site coefficient values (Ca and Cv) for the Malay Basin. A one-dimensional nonlinear analysis of layered soil (NERA) was used in the ground response analysis for six selected seismic events under five return periods of 100, 200, 500, 1000, and 2500 years. Soil amplification factors for soil types D and E showed a decreasing trend from 100 years to 2500 years. Two designed horizontal response spectra are proposed (for soil type D and E) under average and envelope conditions, a comparison with ISO showed that the proposed spectra were higher, especially for soil type E. To summarize, the seismicity effect should be included in the development of offshore industries as findings indicated that soil amplification occurred in soil types D and E at the Malay Basin

In Malaysia, Electrified Train Services (ETS) is the first high speed intercity train system. ETS was executed under the Eighth and Ninth Malaysia Plan with the intention to enhance the operational efficiency and service of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). This service provides an improved travel time for a long-haul journey. As a competitor to other means of public transportation such as airline, this ETS service must be constantly innovative to stay relevant. To maintain and improve this service, the underlying forces that affect customer satisfaction including catering service, needs to be understood. The purpose of this study is to identify the determinants of customer satisfaction on the catering service in Electric Train Service (ETS) of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and among the most common factor discussed are food quality, service quality and atmosphere. 180 questionnaires were distributed to passengers who buy meals at the ETS cabin café and a total of 104 questionnaires were returned. Descriptive analysis was first conducted to examine the demographic characteristics of the respondents. Multiple linear regression analysis was then performed to determine the relationship among variables. The findings of this study clearly show that there were positive relationships between food quality and atmosphere with customer satisfaction and in a surprising manner, no significant relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction discovered. Among the two significant factors, the food quality has the strongest influence on customer satisfaction. Therefore, it is necessary for the ETS catering to continuously understand customers’ need especially with regards to food quality. Improving customer satisfaction will leads to the development of customer relationship, revenue increase and stronger competitive advantage
