Technical Requirements for Connecting Solar Power Plants to Electricity Networks

    Get PDF
This chapter discusses basics of technical design specifications, criteria, technical terms and equipment parameters required to connect solar power plants to electricity networks. Depending on its capacity, a solar plant can be connected to LV, MV, or HV networks. Successful connection of a medium-scale solar plant should satisfy requirements of both the Solar Energy Grid Connection Code (SEGCC) and the appropriate code: the Electricity Distribution Code (EDC) or the Grid Code (GC) as the connection level apply. Connection of a large-scale solar plant to the transmission network should satisfy the requirements of both SEGCC and GC. For Small-Scale Photovoltaic (SSPV), the connection should satisfy both the SSPV Connection Code and the EDC. The objectives are to establish the obligations and responsibilities of each party; i.e. operators and all network users, thus leading to improved security, higher reliability and maintaining optimal operation. The technical specifications include permitted voltage and frequency variations in addition to power quality limits of harmonic distortion, phase unbalance, and flickers. Operational limits and capability requirements will be explained and discussed. Solar power grid connection codes of Egypt are explored first. Finally, brief comparisons of PV codes and related codes of UK, Germany, USA, and Egypt are presented

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) was determined in 479 urbanised South African blacks (141 men and 338 women) of Zulu descent selected by cluster sampling in a suburb of Durban. All subjects underwent a modified glucose tolerance test whereby fasting and 2-hour postglucose (75 g) plasma glucose levels were measured. On the basis of the revised World Health Organisation criteria, the overall prevalence of diabetes was 4,2% and of IGT 6,9%; the age- and sex-adjusted prevalences were 5,3% and 7,7% respectively.Diabetes mellitus was more common in women (5,2% v. 2,3%), while the reverse was true of IGT (5,5% v. 11,5%). The mean age-adjusted body mass indices (BMIs) of diabetic (31,3 ± 1,9) and IGT (29,7 ± 1,9) subjects were significantly higher than those of the group with normal glucose tolerance (28 ± 0,5). Female subjects with all types of glucose tolerance had significantly higher mean BMIs than men. There was a significant correlation between BMI and both fasting glucose (r = 0,16; P = 0,0039) and 2-hour plasma levels (r =0,15; P =0,0065) in the women, while in men only the fasting levels showed such a relationship (r =0,21; P = 0,01719)

The present study was conducted to evaluate 16 crosses between 4 breeds of rabbits from a physiological point of view. The breeds tested were Baladi Red (BR), Chinchilla Giganta (ChG), French Giant Papillon (FGP) and Simenwar (S). A total number of 6144 blood samples were collected to detect the effect of crossing, age of kits, month of kindling and sex effects. The traits evaluated were: haematological parameters; red blood cell count (RBCs), haemoglobin concentration (Hb), haematocrit value (Ht%), biochemical parameters of plasma; total protein (TP), albumin (Alb), globulin concentration (Glo), albumin/globulin ratio (Alb/Glo) and triglycerides (TG). BR or its crosses, using BR sires or BR dams, showed the highest value of RBCs, Hb and Ht%. Crossbred rabbits obtained from mating BR and FGP rabbits had the highest Glo values. Rabbits which were born in May-June months had the highest values of TP and its fractions (Alb and Glo). Age of kits had a highly significant effect (P<0.001) on RBCs, Hb, Ht%, TP and TG. Moreover, Glo and Alb/Glo ratio (P<0.01) and Alb (P<0.05) were also significantly affected. Sex had no significant effect on all studied parameters. Significant positive correlations were found between TP and each final body weight, total weight gain, total feed intake, carcass weight and dressing percentage, while significant negative correlation was found with feed conversion.Abdel-Azeem, A.; Abdel-Azim, A.; Darwish, A.; Omar, E. Background: Chronic liver diseases encompasse metabolic, genetic, drug-induced and inflammatory diseases. The causes of liver disease in children vary with age. In countries where HBV is endemic, perinatal transmission remains the most important cause of chronic infection. The prevalence of hepatitis C infection was much higher in individuals receiving blood products for conditions such as thalassemia or haemophilia. Glycogen storage disorders may present with chronic liver disease. Objectives: To study epidemiological features and laboratory investigations that may affect the incidence in children with chronic liver disease.Patients and methods: Our study included 30 treatment-naïve patients with chronic liver disease of different aetiologies referred to the Department of Pediatrics, Sohag University Hospital. All patients were subjected to history taking, general and local examinations, laboratory investigations and measurement of serum ceruloplasmin. Results: The mean age of children was 10.23 years in case group and 10.75 years in control group, ranging between 5.5 to 15 years. The majority of patients were females (53.3%) and the remained patients were males (46.7%). There was significant difference between patient and control groups as regard total leucocytic count. Also, there were significant differences between the two groups regarding ALT, AST, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin and concentration and high significant differences regarding serum albumin and prothrombin time. Conclusion: Total leucocytic count, AST, ALT, bilirubin, and serum albumin concentration, and prothrombin time are significant investigations to rule out diagnosis and anticipate complications in patients with chronic liver diseases. ALT and PT are early sensitive markers that anticipate liver decompensation

Role of Ultrasonic Elastography in the Evaluation of Fibrosis in Children with Chronic Liver Disease in Comparison to Liver Biopsy

    Get PDF
Background: Chronic liver illnesses can be caused by a variety of factors, including metabolic, genetic, drug-induced, inflammatory, structural, dietary, and immunological factors. Even with Computed Tomography (CT) scans or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), liver fibrosis makes diagnostic imaging difficult in chronic liver injury. Percutaneous liver biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosing, grading, and monitoring liver fibrosis in children, but it is painful, invasive, requires heavy sedation, and has numerous complications such as bleeding. Objectives: The aim of the current work was to assess and measure liver stiffness in children with chronic liver disease using real-time elastography (RTE), compare the results to histopathological findings obtained after performing a percutaneous liver biopsy, and investigate the availability of noninvasive safe liver elastography as a future replacement for this invasive tool in the evaluation and grading of liver fibrosis.Patients and methods: This hospital-based cross-sectional comparative study included a total of 30 individuals with chronic liver disease of various etiologies with age ranged from 4-16 years, attending at Department of Pediatric, Sohag University Hospitals. This study was conducted between January 2017 to December 2019. A control group of ten healthy people was also included in the investigation. Results: The degree of liver stiffness measured by the last ultrasonic elastography was greater in the patient group than in the control group, with a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Except for F0-F1 and F3-F4, there was a substantial relationship between fibrosis stage and liver stiffness assessment by sonoelastography, where the difference was significant between every two individual groups. There was a strong link between biopsy diagnosis and liver stiffness measurement. Conclusion: It could be concluded that in adults, ultrasonic elastography is a well-established approach for assessing liver fibrosis. The utility of elastography in the follow-up of children with chronic liver disease might be increased

The Motorcycle Design Parameter Database (MDPD) for Different Motorcycle Models

    Get PDF
AbstractGlobally, motorcycle road accidents are increasing annually. Among the efforts in overcoming this dire scenario, motorcycle simulators were developed. The Postura MotergoTM which was developed by researchers at the Motorcycle Engineering Technology Lab (METAL) is an example of such simulators. The Postura MotergoTM has a unique capability in replicating various riding postures according to the Riding Posture Classification (RIPOC) system. However, there is the need for a novel database that gives information on the workstation design parameters of various motorcycles. Hence, a specifically built mannequin (the D5EM110N) was developed as a tool to measure various workstation dimensions on actual motorcycles. As of April 2015, the mannequin's design is being filed for an intellectual property (IP) protection. The motorcycles’ design parameters which were collected via the D5EM110N mannequin was then tabulated into the Motorcycle Design Parameter Database (MDPD). The database is then could be utilized to set up the Postura MotergoTM to accurately replicate the desired motorcycle model's workstation design parameters. This is vital in ensuring that the motorcycle simulator could accurately simulate an immersive user experience to the subject in utilizing the desired motorcycle model. By having this novel database and mannequin design, researchers have greater opportunity in conducting various studies in a controlled laboratory setting with respect to motorcycle workstation designs and its possible connection with road accidents
