Science learning research development in Spain can be bibliometrically analyzed using Enseñanza de las Ciencias as indicator, because of the incidence level of this journal in researchers with interest in scientific education. The references which are cited in the articles have been studied in order to analyze the main sources and the most productive authors, using the Bradford model. The evolution of the type of sources and articles which are cited during the period of time studied are considered

An electrothermal atomic absorption (ETAAS) method has been developedfor the direct determination of Si in natural waters. Measurements were carried out on previously alkalinized samples and using a mixture of Pd and Mg(NO3)2 as matrix modifier, with an ashing temperature of 1400 oC and an atomization temperature of 2400 oC. Transversally heated pyrolitically graphite tubes, equipped with Lfvov platform and Zeeman effect correction, was employed in this study. A limit of detection of 2.6 ƒÊg/L Si was obtainedand accuracy was evaluated by analyzing two Standard Reference Material at different concentration levels, a good agreement (<5%) was obtained. This developed procedure was demonstrated of the need of using an alkaline medium for accurate Si determination by ETAAS

Prediction of alkaline earth elements in bone remains by near infrared spectroscopy

An innovative methodological approach has been developed for the prediction of the mineral element composition of bone remains. It is based on the use of Fourier Transform Near Infrared (FT-NIR) diffuse reflectance measurements. The method permits a fast, cheap and green analytical way, to understand postmortem degradation of bones caused by the environment conditions on different skeletal parts and to select the best preserved bone samples. Samples, from the Late Roman Necropolis of Virgen de la Misericordia street and En Gil street located in Valencia (Spain), were employed to test the proposed approach being determined calcium, magnesium and strontium in bone remains and sediments. Coefficients of determination obtained between predicted values and reference ones for Ca, Mg and Sr were 90.4, 97.3 and 97.4, with residual predictive deviation of 3.2, 5.3 and 2.3, respectively, and relative root mean square error of prediction between 10% and 37%. Results obtained evidenced that NIR spectra combined with statistical analysis can help to predict bone mineral profiles suitable to evaluate bone diagenesis

Co-treatment of industrial air streams using A.O.P. and adsorption processes

Coupling adsorption with two different photochemical oxidation methods was investigated, in order to treat industrial gaseous effluents containing a low concentration of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). Prior to adsorption/photocatalysis cyclic study, new TiO2 based catalysts were prepared by impregnating commercial zeolites in pellets form using a sol-gel technique. Scanning Electronic Microscopy observations linked to BET and adsorption equilibrium measurements of two VOC (1-butanol or BuOH and methyl-ethyl-ketone or MEK) showed that TiO2 happened to. x on the inert binder, without significant modification of support properties. A specific diffusion cell was used to produce dilute polluted air streams for each VOC in dynamic experiments, in which adsorption and photodegradation phases were alternatively carried out. Adsorption/photocatalysis co-treatment unable the total degradation of BuOH, and the regeneration of adsorbent. When using V-UV photolysis, pure zeolites were used, irradiated at 172 nm with an xenon excimer lamp. Excellent results were observed, since a total and rapid degradation was obtained for both VOC, especially thanks to a determining role of ozone

El Movimiento Europeo y las asociaciones juveniles: de los orígenes de la relación a la Campaña Europea de la Juventud (1948-1958)

The activity in favour of Europeanism by the leaders of the European Movement in the years immediately following the war was constant. At this early stage of the European integration process, the interest in spreading the values of economic and political integration (closely linked to education and culture) among the new generations of Europeans led to the organisation of the European Youth Campaign", which was run throughout much of the 1950s. The origin of the initiative arose from the contacts established in the late 1940s - after The Hague Congress - between personalities committed to the Europeanist ideal and youth groups.

Rural Tourism is an economic option for landowners in rural areas, this subject has been discussed and studied because of its potential growth opportunities, independent of the size or focus of production. There are many industries associated with rural tourism with diverse names and classifications. This essay tries to explore the concepts of Rural Tourism and Agritourism and its relationship with agritainment, with a main objective of analyzing the latest trends and research of the post graduate colleges of Tourism in Brazil. This research analyzes theses and dissertations presented from 2004 to 2009. Rural Tourism was identified as the main subject of study in the theses

Physicians’ perception of oral nutritional supplement acceptance and tolerability in malnourished outpatients: PerceptiONS study

Malnutrition is a common condition associated with various pathologies such as infections, neoplasms and digestive system disorders. Patients can be managed using different strategies, which include dietary modifications or oral nutritional supplements (ONS). It is important to promote good ONS adherence in order to attain clinical efficacy and cost-effectiveness. Several factors (amount, type, duration and tolerability) may have an impact on ONS adherence. PerceptiONS is a descriptive, cross-sectional observational study based on an ad hoc electronic survey designed to explore physicians’ perception of malnourished outpatients prescribed ONS. The survey considered adherence, acceptance/satisfaction, tolerability and benefits within the context of Spain’s healthcare system. The perceptions of 548 physicians regarding the experience of 2516 patients were analyzed. From the physicians’ perspective, 57.11% of patients adhered to over 75% of the prescribed ONS. The organoleptic properties of ONS represented the aspect with the most positive impact on adherence, with smell (43.72%) ranking as the top characteristic. In general, patients were satisfied (90.10%) with the ONS, with their related benefits (88.51%) and their organoleptic properties (90.42%), and accepted ONS in their daily diet (88.63%). ONS improved patients’ general condition (87.04%), quality of life (QoL) (81.96%) and vitality/energy (81.28%). Physicians would prescribe the same ONS again in 96.4% of the cases
