Nursing contribution to chronic disease management

    Get PDF
Chronic diseases are a global problem worldwide. Chronic diseases are the major cause of early death. Cardiovascular diseases account for most deaths, followed by cancers, respiratory diseases, and diabetes, respectively. Nurses make a great contribution to optimizing the quality of health care services. Nurses have opportunities to build an effective, trustful and ongoing relationship with patients at primary, secondary and tertiary care settings. Nurses can contribute to high-quality care through the training and adopting innovative interventions for prevention and management of chronic diseases. Providing easily accessible and standardized healthcare services for better management of chronic diseases is critical. Management of chronic diseases typically requires multi-dimensional interventions. A comprehensive approach is needed to reduce the risks associated with chronic diseases, and promote interventions to prevent and control/manage them

In this study, it was aimed that produce a new polymeric carrier/sorbent semi-IPNs and hydrogels by using acrylamide which is commonly used to produce crosslinked polymer and gelatin which is natural polymer as main components. Semi-IPNs and hydrogels were prepared by free radical polymerization in aqueous solution using of sodium acrylate and sodium styrene sulfonate as comonomers, poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate as crosslinker. Gelatin as natural polymer, poly(vinyl alcohol) and poly(ethylene glycol) as synthetic polymers were used to prepare semi-IPN structure. Structural and thermal characterization of prepared chemically crosslinked polymers were tried to determine by using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TG)/Differential Thermogravimetry (DTG). Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) micrographs were taken for determination of surface porosity of semi-IPNs and hydrogels. Dynamic swelling tests were applied at 25oC for the purpose of investigation of swelling properties of crosslinked copolymers. According to obtained data, parameters concerning swelling kinetics and diffusion mechanism were calculated. A cationic dye such as methyl violet was selected as model molecule to investigate of adsorption properties of semi-IPNs and hydrogels. It was determined that crosslinked copolymers adsorbed dye of methyl violet from aqueous solutions in high level. Resorcinol was selected as active substance for release study. Resorsinol was loaded into semi-IPNs and hydrogels during polimerization. Release of active substance from semi-IPNs and hydrogels carrying resorsinol was investigated at constant temperature

OLD-NEW TYPE SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: TEACHER'S PERSPECTIVE – CASE OF IZMIR, TURKEY

    Get PDF
The purpose of this research is to examine whether low and high student acheivement and new and old types of buildings have a meaningful relationship with perceptions of teachers on quality of school buildings. Quantitative methods were used in the research. 204 teachers from elementary, middle and high school in İzmir, Turkey completed the scale. Stratified random sampling was used in the research. In data collection, ‘Quality School Building Scale’ was used. For data analaysis, t test were used as well as basic statistical methods. Results show that, as academic achievement, there is a meaningful difference between perception of teachers related to school campus, acoustic dimensions and total scale. The difference is in the favor of schools with lower academic achivement. The same dimensions and total scale have difference that old type is favorable. In this sense, improving the quality of school building is important.   Article visualizations

The effect of elevated temperature on the lightweight concrete containing waste PET aggregate

    Get PDF
In this study, the effect of waste PET as lightweight aggregate (WPLA) replacement with conventional aggregate on the some physical and mechanical properties and residual compressive strength of concrete was investigated. For this purpose, five different mixtures were prepared (the reference mixture and four WPLA mixtures including 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% waste PET aggregate by volume). The fresh and dry unit weights, compressive strengths, flexural-tensile strengths, water absorption and porosity ratios of the mixtures were measured. In addition the specimens exposed to elevated temperatures at 150, 300 and 450 °C and the residual compressive strengths were measured. Test results indicated that the unit weight, compressive strength and flexural-tensile strength of the specimens decreased as the amount of WPLA increased in concrete. After exposing to elevated temperature, WPLA mixtures retained their structural integrity and compressive strengths at 150 °C and 300 °C. However there was a significant decrease in the residual compressive strength values of WPLA mixtures at 450 °C
