Consumo de alcohol y otras sustancias, un problema en estudiantes universitarios de salud

Objetivo: caracterizar el consumo de alcohol y otras sustancias, los motivos para consumir o no consumir en estudiantes de pregrado de una universidad privada en Santiago de Cali. Materiales y Métodos: estudio  descriptivo transversal, con una  muestra de 207 estudiantes pertenecientes a dos programas de salud de una universidad privada, estuvo integrada por estudiantes entre los 14 y 49 años de edad,  media de 23 años, seleccionados aleatoriamente por muestreo estratificado proporcional. Se utilizó un cuestionario de auto reporte Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test y preguntas sobre los motivos de consumo de sustancias legales e ilegales. Se realizó análisis univariado y estimadores con intervalos de confianza, en relación con otras variables se calculó prueba de X 2 utilizando Epi Info 7. Resultados: el consumo en el último año para sustancias legales como alcohol es de 76.8% (IC 95%: 70.5-82.4)  para cigarrillo de 15% (IC 95%: 10.4-20.6). Para sustancias ilegales como la marihuana un 1% (IC 95%: 0.1-3.4). Entre las  razones para el consumo los participantes manifiestan  que los hace sentir bien en un  69.3% (IC 95%: 60.6-75.2)  Conclusiones: entre los universitarios del área de la salud,  el  consumo de sustanciales legales es semejante al de la población general. La elaboración de planes de intervención para prevenir el  consumo de drogas legales e ilegales, es una tarea que debe asumir la academia en su labor educativa y de proyección social de manera permanente.PALABRAS CLAVE: consumo de bebidas alcohólicas, drogas ilícitas,  estudiantes, productos de tabaco. Consumption of alcohol and other substances, a health problem in college studentsABSTRACTObjective: to characterize the consumption of alcohol and other substances, and the reasons to consume or not consume in undergraduate students from a private university in Santiago de Cali. Among the reasons for consumption the participants that state that it makes them feel good were 69.3% (95% CI 60.6-75.2) Conclusions: among college students health concerns concerning legal substantial consumption is similar to that of the general population. La Imagen y la Narrativa como Herramientas para el Abordaje Psicosocial en Escenarios de Violencia. País Aruba y Colombia, Departamento de Risaralda y Valle del Cauca.

Los eventos traumáticos que viven algunas personas a causa del conflicto armado en nuestro país, hacen un llamado al análisis, acompañamiento e intervención en circunstancias donde el individuo o la comunidad ven comprometidos su integridad, estabilidad, pensamientos, actitudes, comportamientos; un reto importante para los psicólogos, en búsqueda de la superación y el equilibrio psicológico para enfrentar estos traumas y crisis a los que se ven enfrentados. Se propone realizar mediante el análisis de relatos, con un enfoque narrativo el análisis y las estrategias de acompañamiento a las victimas colombianas que han experimentado una realidad sociopolítica difícil. El primer análisis narrativo es de un Joven Afrocolombiano de Nombre Camilo, que debió enfrentar varios hechos de violencia desde su niñez hasta su adultez producto del desplazamiento a causa de la violencia. Este estudio se hace de manera reflexiva mediante la formulación de una serie de preguntas que permiten a futuros profesionales de psicología tener mejor comprensión del contexto de las víctimas de la guerra y su abordaje. De igual manera se realiza un segundo análisis de caso. En esta oportunidad el de la Comunidad “Peñas Coloradas” donde también se estudia el tema a partir de unas preguntas guiadas y partiendo de allí se proponen una serie de estrategias de acercamiento psicosocial a sus habitantes. Brindando una serie de recursos de afrontamiento con el fin que estos pueden superar situaciones de estigmatización y victimización. Posteriormente se realiza un informe razonado y reflexivo de la experiencia de foto voz en los diferentes contextos de violencia, donde las imágenes juegan un papel determinante a la hora de narrar un hecho o circunstancia, por medio de estas representaciones se reconocen la realidad que afecta ya sea de manera individual o colectiva, sirviendo como mecanismo de trasformación social ya que lo que se plasma no se olvida. Lo anterior puede ser consultado en la página Wix con su respectiva conclusión.The traumatic events experienced by the victims of the armed conflict in Colombia require analysis, accompaniment and intervention in circumstances where the individual or the community see their integrity, stability, thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors compromised; an important challenge for psychologists, in search of improvement and psychological balance to face these traumas and crises that they are faced with. It is proposed to carry out an analysis of stories with a narrative approach, the analysis and accompaniment strategies to Colombian victims who have experienced a difficult socio-political reality. The first narrative analysis is of a Young Afro-Colombian named Camilo who had to face various acts of violence from childhood to adulthood as a result of displacement due to violence. This study is done in a reflective way by formulating a series of strategic questions, circular and reflective that allow future psychology professionals to have a better understanding of the context of war victims and these should be approached. In the same way, a second case analysis is carried out. Decisions about the diagnostic and treatment criteria of dental caries among a group of dental students, faculty staff and dentists within the city of Medellin, Colombia

Objective: To analyze the criteria for diagnosis and treatment decision-making in relation to dental caries in different participants (teachers of dentistry, dental students at dental schools, and dentists practicing at public oral health services) in the city of Medellin (Colombia). Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was applied in the period September 2015-december 2016 by means of an international validated questionnaire in 340 participants (dental teachers: 69, dental students: 193, dentists: 78). The survey addressed several topics related to detection and restorative threshold, preferences of preparation type, restorative materials used and opinions about diagnosis and treatment for dental caries. A descriptive analysis was carried out and Chi square tests were applied to observe statistically significant differences between the study variables. Results: 340 participants were surveyed among teachers who teach cariology, health care dentists, and undergraduate final-year students. Most participants were women (70%). The age mean was higher for DDSs (46 ± 9 years). On average, practicing dentists and dental teachers had a work experience of 21 ± 9 years. In case of treatment decisions, the majority of the surveyed would use immediate operative restorative treatment for advanced carious lesions (inner one-third of the dentin for approximal and grade 5 for occlusal). In addition, respondents reported different cavities diagnosis for clinical occlusal cases and some significant statistically differences were found for restorative treatment decisions and type of materials according to the type of participant. Conclusion: Criteria for diagnosis and treatment of dental caries differed among the student, dentist and dental teachers with variety in diagnosis and treatment concepts. However, a conservative tendency for restorative treatment decisions was observed. Strategies for incorporating non-restorative and minimal measures in professional practice should be considered in curricula of universities

The Research Journey as a Challenge Towards New Trends

The academic community of the department of Risaralda, in its permanent interest in evidencing the results of the research processes that are carried out from the Higher Education Institutions and as a product of the VI meeting of researchers of the department of Risaralda held in November 2021 presents its work: “The journey of research as a challenge towards new trends”, which reflects the result of the latest research and advances in different lines of knowledge in Agricultural Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Technology and Information Sciences, which seek to solve and meet the demands of the different sectors. Amor, empatía y conductas prosociales: una reflexión interdisciplinaria

This book presents, through reflection, the relevance, timeliness and necessity of love, empathy and prosocial behaviors within the framework of the professional and disciplinary work of the authors. The reader will be able to find here what these professionals, academics and intellectuals think and feel about it. Let the reader know that it was not a simple writing project, maybe because of the invitation to think about oneself, maybe because of the presence of the concept of "love" in the academy, or maybe, because we are not so accustomed to putting in the first person the reflection turned from what we relate to day by day. May this text be the excuse to continue to reflect on the role of love, empathy and prosocial behavior in a world that sometimes shows great desolation. Natural History of MYH7-Related Dilated Cardiomyopathy

BACKGROUND Variants in myosin heavy chain 7 (MYH7) are responsible for disease in 1% to 5% of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM); however, the clinical characteristics and natural history of MYH7-related DCM are poorly described. OBJECTIVES We sought to determine the phenotype and prognosis of MYH7-related DCM. We also evaluated the influence of variant location on phenotypic expression. METHODS We studied clinical data from 147 individuals with DCM-causing MYH7 variants (47.6% female; 35.6 +/- 19.2 years) recruited from 29 international centers. RESULTS At initial evaluation, 106 (72.1%) patients had DCM (left ventricular ejection fraction: 34.5% +/- 11.7%). Median follow-up was 4.5 years (IQR: 1.7-8.0 years), and 23.7% of carriers who were initially phenotype-negative developed DCM. Phenotypic expression by 40 and 60 years was 46% and 88%, respectively, with 18 patients (16%) first diagnosed at <18 years of age. Thirty-six percent of patients with DCM met imaging criteria for LV noncompaction. During follow-up, 28% showed left ventricular reverse remodeling. Incidence of adverse cardiac events among patients with DCM at 5 years was 11.6%, with 5 (4.6%) deaths caused by end-stage heart failure (ESHF) and 5 patients (4.6%) requiring heart transplantation. The major ventricular arrhythmia rate was low (1.0% and 2.1% at 5 years in patients with DCM and in those with LVEF of <= 35%, respectively). ESHF and major ventricular arrhythmia were significantly lower compared with LMNA-related DCM and similar to DCM caused by TTN truncating variants. CONCLUSIONS MYH7-related DCM is characterized by early age of onset, high phenotypic expression, low left ventricular reverse remodeling, and frequent progression to ESHF. Congreso Internacional de Responsabilidad Social: apuestas para el desarrollo regional [Edición 1 / Nov. 6 - 7: 2019 Bogotá D.C.]El Congreso Internacional de Responsabilidad Social “Apuestas para el Desarrollo Regional”, se llevó a cabo los días 6 y 7 de noviembre de 2019 en la ciudad de Bogotá D.C. como un evento académico e investigativo liderado por la Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios -UNIMINUTO – Rectoría Cundinamarca cuya pretensión fue el fomento de nuevos paradigmas, la divulgación de conocimiento renovado en torno a la Responsabilidad Social; finalidad adoptada institucionalmente como postura ética y política que impacta la docencia, la investigación y la proyección social, y cuyo propósito central es la promoción de una “sensibilización consciente y crítica ante las situaciones problemáticas, tanto de las comunidades como del país, al igual que la adquisición de unas competencias orientadas a la promoción y al compromiso con el desarrollo humano y social integral”. La Asociación Colombiana de Infectología (ACIN) y el Instituto de Evaluación de Nuevas Tecnologías de la Salud (IETS) conformó un grupo de trabajo para desarrollar recomendaciones informadas y basadas en evidencia, por consenso de expertos para la atención, diagnóstico y manejo de casos de Covid 19. Congreso Internacional de Responsabilidad Social: apuestas para el desarrollo regional [Edición 1 / Nov. 6 - 7: 2019 Bogotá D.C.]El Congreso Internacional de Responsabilidad Social “Apuestas para el Desarrollo Regional”, se llevó a cabo los días 6 y 7 de noviembre de 2019 en la ciudad de Bogotá D.C. como un evento académico e investigativo liderado por la Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios -UNIMINUTO – Rectoría Cundinamarca cuya pretensión fue el fomento de nuevos paradigmas, la divulgación de conocimiento renovado en torno a la Responsabilidad Social; finalidad adoptada institucionalmente como postura ética y política que impacta la docencia, la investigación y la proyección social, y cuyo propósito central es la promoción de una “sensibilización consciente y crítica ante las situaciones problemáticas, tanto de las comunidades como del país, al igual que la adquisición de unas competencias orientadas a la promoción y al compromiso con el desarrollo humano y social integral”. (UNIMINUTO, 2014). Dicha postura, de conciencia crítica y sensibilización social, sumada a la experiencia adquirida mediante el trabajo articulado con otras instituciones de índole académico y de forma directa con las comunidades, permitió establecer como objetivo central del evento la reflexión de los diferentes grupos de interés, la gestión de sus impactos como elementos puntuales que contribuyeron en la audiencia a la toma de conciencia frente al papel que se debe asumir a favor de la responsabilidad social como aporte seguro al desarrollo regional y a su vez al fortalecimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible
