Ghent University Technology Park : from a local initiative towards an essential component of the Ghent knowledge innovation ecosystem
Using the case of the Ghent University and its Technology Park, we will illustrate how changing policies and practices at the level of the university concerning research valorization have an impact on our science park. We will also demonstrate how the evolving nature of our science park has a clear impact on the university, as the science park becomes more and more an integral part of the university knowledge eco-system. We will also highlight the involvement of Ghent University in the Korea Songdo Global University Campus Project

Tolerance and UQ4SIM: Nimble Uncertainty Documentation and Analysis Software
Ultimately, scientific numerical models need quantified output uncertainties so that modeling can evolve to better match reality. Documenting model input uncertainties and variabilities is a necessary first step toward that goal. Without known input parameter uncertainties, model sensitivities are all one can determine, and without code verification, output uncertainties are simply not reliable. The basic premise of uncertainty markup is to craft a tolerance and tagging mini-language that offers a natural, unobtrusive presentation and does not depend on parsing each type of input file format. Each file is marked up with tolerances and optionally, associated tags that serve to label the parameters and their uncertainties. The evolution of such a language, often called a Domain Specific Language or DSL, is given in [1], but in final form it parallels tolerances specified on an engineering drawing, e.g., 1 +/- 0.5, 5 +/- 10%, 2 +/- 10 where % signifies percent and o signifies order of magnitude. Tags, necessary for error propagation, can be added by placing a quotation-mark-delimited tag after the tolerance, e.g., 0.7 +/- 20% 'T_effective'. In addition, tolerances might have different underlying distributions, e.g., Uniform, Normal, or Triangular, or the tolerances may merely be intervals due to lack of knowledge (uncertainty). Finally, to address pragmatic considerations such as older models that require specific number-field formats, C-style format specifiers can be appended to the tolerance like so, 1.35 +/- 10U_3.2f. As an example of use, consider figure 1, where a chemical reaction input file is has been marked up to include tolerances and tags per table 1. Not only does the technique provide a natural method of specifying tolerances, but it also servers as in situ documentation of model uncertainties. This tolerance language comes with a utility to strip the tolerances (and tags), to provide a path to the nominal model parameter file. And, as shown in [1], having the ability to quickly mark and identify model parameter uncertainties facilitates error propagation, which in turn yield output uncertainties

Práce se dále zabývá problematikou upichovacích nástrojů, problematikou geometrie ostří, obecným přehledem nástrojových materiálů skupiny slinutých karbidů pro řezné nástroje a jejich vlastnostmi. Zmíněn je zde i přehled nástrojových firem a světového vývoje.Main goal of this bachelor thesis is the introduction with characteristics of tool materials and assessing their fitness for use in machining operations. The thesis also deals with the parting-off tools, blade geometry issues, a general overview of the tool material group of cemented karbide cutting tools and their properties. There is a mention of overview of companies and world development.
A historical analysis of the Argentine autoparts foreign trade
La industria automotriz argentina es uno de los sectores más estudiados por la historia económica. Sus límites se atribuyen a la mayor o menor intervención del Estado, al legado del neoliberalismo o a las estrategias de las multinacionales. A nuestro entender, estas aproximaciones dejan de lado el análisis de las condiciones de producción tanto internas como en el mercado mundial. Como un paso para ampliar estas explicaciones, analizamos la balanza comercial de autopartes argentinas en perspectiva histórica, con el objeto de entender los problemas históricos del complejo en Argentina.The Argentine automotive industry is one of the most studied topics in economic history. The authors explain their limits by the state intervention, the legacy of neoliberalism or the strategies of multinationals. These approaches neglect the analysis of production conditions, internally and on the world market. As a step to extend these explanations, we analyze the trade balance of the Argentine auto parts industry in historical perspective, in order to understand the problems of the automotive complex in Argentina. Proponemos el análisis del desempeño de la industria automotriz argentina en la década de 1980, a partir del desarrollo del caso de Renault. En esta década se producen modificaciones relevantes a nivel local e internacional. El análisis de Renault permite abordar diferentes aspectos de la actividad. Tanto por su historia, al ser la continuadora de la primera empresa automotriz privada de envergadura (IKA), como por ser filial de una firma multinacional, por su grado de integración, por su tecnología en el mercado interno y los modelos lanzados, como por su estrategia de reproducción en el marco de la crisis; consideramos que su estudio podrá brindar elementos para interpretar los condicionantes de la actividad.Buscamos entender este proceso en el contexto de transformaciones que ocurren a nivel de la rama y en términos generales. El objetivo es aportar elementos para comprender la dinámica de la industria argentina.We analyze the performance of Argentina's automotive industry in the 1980s. We focus on the development of Renault Argentina. Significant changes occurred in this decade, both locally and internationally. Analysis of Renault allows the analysis of different aspects. Both for its history, being the continuation of the first major private enterprise in the automotive sector (IKA), as a subsidiary of a multinational firm, by their degree of integration, for its technology in the domestic market and the models launched, and its breeding strategy in the context of the crisis; We believe that their study may provide elements to interpret the conditions of the activity. Effect of uncertainties on UCAV trajectory optimisation using evolutionary programming
There is a recognised need for an automated trajectory planning to guide manned or unmanned aircraft against an agile adversary such as a missile. Evolutionary programming approaches provide an alternative to classical functional optimisation methods with the capability of incorporating multiple optimisation goals and in the same time tolerating aircraft constraints. In this study, an evolutionary flight path planning algorithm capable of mapping aircraft trajectories in three dimensions under several aerodynamics constraints is developed. The task of the trajectory was to guide the aircraft away from interception. The calculations assumes that the aircraft states are accurate. Good trajectories were found under this assumption. But in reality, states are measured in an environment that has uncertainties, such as instrument error, atmospheric disturbances, etc. This paper studies the effect of the presence of errors to the accuracy of the algorithm. Two state variables were studied, i.e. altitude and velocity for both players. From the simulation, the effect of noises and interception radius can influence the sensitivity of the optimiser
Van der Waals interactions in the ground state of Mg(BH4)2 from density functional theory
In order to resolve an outstanding discrepancy between experiment and theory
regarding the ground-state structure of Mg(BH4)2, we examine the importance of
long-range dispersive interactions on the compound's thermodynamic stability.
Careful treatment of the correlation effects within a recently developed
nonlocal van der Waals density functional (vdW-DF) leads to a good agreement
with experiment, favoring the {\alpha}-Mg(BH4)2 phase (P6122) and a closely
related Mn(BH4)2-prototype phase (P3112) over a large set of polymorphs at low
temperatures. Our study demonstrates the need to go beyond (semi)local density
functional approximations for a reliable description of crystalline high-valent
