Multi-level agent-based modeling with the Influence Reaction principle
This paper deals with the specification and the implementation of multi-level
agent-based models, using a formal model, IRM4MLS (an Influence Reaction Model
for Multi-Level Simulation), based on the Influence Reaction principle.
Proposed examples illustrate forms of top-down control in (multi-level)

Top-ology
I compare the anticipated properties of the top quark with what is known
experimentally about the heaviest fermion. I review the scientific
opportunities that will be presented in the near future by copious samples of
top. These include refined tests of electroweak radiative corrections, studies
of the nature of top itself, and exploration of electroweak symmetry breaking.

The Quale of Time
Time is one of the greatest subjects of interest to the disciplines of both Science and Philosophy, being seen to have a greater importance in the workings of reality than other entities. In this paper, a phenomenological analysis of time based on the general workings of the emergent structure of consciousness will be done, and time will be shown to be no different than any other qualia. It will be shown that, like any other qualia, time is an emergent level of consciousness, manifesting all the properties of emergence: inheritance of qualities from the previous levels, top-down influence in levels received from the higher levels and top-down influence in levels impressed on the lower levels
Top Production in Hadron-Hadron Collisions and Anomalous Top-Gluon Couplings
We discuss the influence of anomalous tbar-t-G couplings on total and
differential tbar-t production cross sections in hadron-hadron collisions. We
study in detail the effects of a chromoelectric and a chromomagnetic dipole
moment, d' and \mu', of the top quark. In the d'-\mu' plane, we find a whole
region where the anomalous couplings give a zero net contribution to the total
top production rate. In differential cross sections, the anomalous moments have
to be quite sizable to give measurable effects. We estimate the values of d'
and \mu' which are allowed by the present Tevatron experimental results on top
production. A chromoelectric dipole moment of the top violates CP invariance.
We discuss a simple CP-odd observable which allows for a direct search for CP

Determination of the top quark mass from leptonic observables
We present a procedure for the determination of the mass of the top quark at
the LHC based on leptonic observables in dilepton events. Our
approach utilises the shapes of kinematic distributions through their few
lowest Mellin moments; it is notable for its minimal sensitivity to the
modelling of long-distance effects, for not requiring the reconstruction of top
quarks, and for having a competitive precision, with theory errors on the
extracted top mass of the order of 0.8 GeV. A novel aspect of our work is the
study of theoretical biases that might influence in a dramatic way the
determination of the top mass, and which are potentially relevant to all
template-based methods. We propose a comprehensive strategy that helps minimise
the impact of such biases, and leads to a reliable top mass extraction at

Top-mounted inlet system feasibility for transonic-supersonic fighter aircraft
The more salient findings are presented of recent top inlet performance evaluations aimed at assessing the feasibility of top-mounted inlet systems for transonic-supersonic fighter aircraft applications. Top inlet flow field and engine-inlet performance test data show the influence of key aircraft configuration variables-inlet longitudinal position, wing leading-edge extension planform area, canopy-dorsal integration, and variable incidence canards-on top inlet performance over the Mach range of 0.6 to 2.0. Top inlet performance data are compared with those or more conventional inlet/airframe integrations in an effort to assess the viability of top-mounted inlet systems relative to conventional inlet installations
Influence of gas flow rate on liquid distribution in trickle-beds using perforated plates as liquid distributors
Two wire mesh tomography devices and a liquid collector were used to study
the influence of the gas flow rate on liquid distribution when fluids
distribution on top of the reactor is ensured by a perforated plate. In
opposition to most of the studies realized by other authors, conditions in
which the gas has a negative impact in liquid distribution were evidenced.
Indeed, the obtained results show that the influence of gas flow rate depends
on the quality of the initial distribution, as the gas forces the liquid to
"respect" the distribution imposed at the top of the reactor. Finally, a
comparison between the two measuring techniques shows the limitations of the
liquid collector and the improper conclusions to which its use could lead
The choice of insider or outsider top executives in acquired companies
There is considerable debate amongst academics and practitioners over whether top executives of acquired or merged companies should stay or go, post-deal, as studies exploring the link with organisational performance show mixed results. This may in part be due to such studies failing to recognise that there are a number of distinct post-acquisition strategies which may require the deployment of different types of top executive. This paper addresses this limitation by bringing together the longstanding Insider/Outsider debate with a post-acquisition integration framework, in order to investigate whether there is a link between top management type and post-acquisition integration strategy. Using a dual methodology of survey and cases drawing on UK M&A data, clear associations are found between top executive type and particular post-acquisition styles. Underlying these patterns, the value-creating/value-capturing distinction of the Resource-Based View appears to have a greater influence over top executive deployment than do issues of Organisational Fit. This suggests strategic intentions have ascendancy over organisational constraints in the selection of top executives for managing post-acquisition integration
