    An efficient data transmission policy in an integrated voice-data ds-cdma network

    CDMA schemes appear to be promising access techniques for coping with the requirements of third-generation mobile systems, mainly because of their flexibility. This paper proposes an adaptive S-ALOHA DS-CDMA access scheme as a method for integrating non-real time (i.e. Internet applications) and real-time (i.e. voice) services, by exploiting the potentials of CDMA under time-varying conditions. The adaptive component terminals autonomously change their transmission rate according to the total (voice+data) channel occupancy, so that the minimum possible data delay is almost always achieved.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    DECT-2020 New Radio: The Next Step Towards 5G Massive Machine-Type Communications

    Massive machine type communications (mMTC) is one of the cornerstone services that have to be supported by 5G systems. 3GPP has already introduced LTE-M and NB-IoT, often referred to as cellular IoT, in 3GPP Releases 13, 14, and 15 and submitted these technologies as part of 3GPP IMT-2020 (i.e., 5G) technology submission to ITU-R. Even though NB-IoT and LTE-M have shown to satisfy 5G mMTC requirements defined by ITU-R, it is expected that these cellular IoT solutions will not address all aspects of IoT and ongoing digitalization, including the support for direct communication between "things" with flexible deployments, different business models, as well as support for even higher node densities and enhanced coverage. In this paper, we introduce the DECT-2020 standard recently published by ETSI for mMTC communications. We evaluate its performance and compare it to the existing LPWAN solutions showing that it outperforms those in terms of supported density of nodes while still keeping delay and loss guarantees at the required level.Comment: Author-Submitted Paper to IEEE Communications Magazine, 7 pages, 4 figures, 2 table

    This paper evaluates the performance of the key elements of the security architecture developed by the INDECT project. In particular it first evaluates three different concurrent error detection mechanism (parity check, Berger code, and cyclic redundancy check) developed in software- and hardware-based implementations of the INDECT block cipher. It also analyses the performance hit in secure web servers when enabling TLS/SSL with mutual authentication. Finally, it evaluates the throughput and delay of traffic in the virtual private network based on the OpenVPN software package with the implemented INDECT block cipher. The results of these evaluations demonstrate that the proposed mechanisms, and by extension the whole INDECT security architecture, are viable and can be used in high-performance Police information and communication systems.Este artículo evalúa el rendimiento de los principales elementos de la arquitectura de seguridad desarrollada por el proyecto INDECT. En particular, en primer lugar evalúa tres mecanismos diferentes de detección concurrente de errores (comprobación de paridad, códigos Berger y verificación por redundancia cíclica) desarrollados en las implementaciones software y hardware del algoritmo de cifrado de bloque INDECT. También se analiza el impacto en el rendimiento de los servidores web seguros cuando se activa TLS/SSL con autenticación mutua. Por último, evalúa el rendimiento y el retardo del tráfico en una red privada virtual, basada en el software OpenVPN con el algoritmo de cifrado INDECT. Los resultados de estas evaluaciones demuestran que los mecanismos propuestos, y el algoritmo de cifrado INDECT, son viables y pueden usarse en sistemas de información y comunicaciones de alto rendimiento para la Policía

    Self-optimizing Uplink Outer Loop Power Control for WCDMA Network

    The increasing demands for high data rates, drives the efforts for more efficient usage of the finite natural radio spectrum resources. Existing wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) uplink outer loop power control has difficulty to answer to the new load on air interface. The main reason is that the maximum allowed noise rise per single user is fixed value. In worst case uplink load can be so high that all services, including conversational service, could be blocked. In this paper investigation has been performed to present correlation of main system parameters, used by uplink outer loop power control, to uplink load. Simulation has been created and executed to present difference in current implementation of uplink outer loop power control against proposed changes. Proposed solution is self-optimizing uplink outer loop power control in a way that maximum allowed noise rise per single user would be dynamically changed based on current uplink load on cell

    Possible Application of Short Range Communication Technologies in the Digital Tachograph System to Support Vehicles Filtering during Road Controls

    The existing Digital Tachograph is a regulatory instrument (mandatory by Council Regulation since 1st May 2006) to enforce the application of social regulations in road transport especially with the view to increase traffic safety. It records the work and the rest times of drivers as well as the vehicle speed over time with the aim to ensure that appropriate rest periods are taken by drivers and that a maximum of permissible speed is not exceeded. The original and prime functionality of the Digital Tachograph is to document, i.e. to record, the driving history of a driver and his vehicle. Nevertheless controls by the road safety authorities are rather inefficient while time-consuming. The proposed update to the existing regulation would rather guarantee the Digital Tachograph as a compliance device rather than as an accurate recorder of driving history.
