Toward a probability theory for product logic: states, integral representation and reasoning

The aim of this paper is to extend probability theory from the classical to the product t-norm fuzzy logic setting. More precisely, we axiomatize a generalized notion of finitely additive probability for product logic formulas, called state, and show that every state is the Lebesgue integral with respect to a unique regular Borel probability measure. Furthermore, the relation between states and measures is shown to be one-one. In addition, we study geometrical properties of the convex set of states and show that extremal states, i.e., the extremal points of the state space, are the same as the truth-value assignments of the logic. Finally, we axiomatize a two-tiered modal logic for probabilistic reasoning on product logic events and prove soundness and completeness with respect to probabilistic spaces, where the algebra is a free product algebra and the measure is a state in the above sense.Comment: 27 pages, 1 figur

Functional representation of finitely generated free algebras in subvarieties of BL-algebras

Consider any subvariety of BL-algebras generated by a single BL-chain which is the ordinal sum of the standard MV-algebra on [0,1] and a basic hoop H. We present a geometrical characterization of elements in the finitely generated free algebra of each of these subvarieties. In this characterization there is a clear insight of the role of the regular and dense elements of the generating chain. As an application, we analyze maximal and prime filters in the free algebra.Fil: Busaniche, Manuela. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Order, algebra, and structure: lattice-ordered groups and beyond

This thesis describes and examines some remarkable relationships existing between seemingly quite different properties (algebraic, order-theoretic, and structural) of ordered groups. On the one hand, it revisits the foundational aspects of the structure theory of lattice-ordered groups, contributing a novel systematization of its relationship with the theory of orderable groups. One of the main contributions in this direction is a connection between validity in varieties of lattice-ordered groups, and orders on groups; a framework is also provided that allows for a systematic account of the relationship between orders and preorders on groups, and the structure theory of lattice-ordered groups. On the other hand, it branches off in new directions, probing the frontiers of several different areas of current research. More specifically, one of the main goals of this thesis is to suitably extend results that are proper to the theory of lattice-ordered groups to the realm of more general, related algebraic structures; namely, distributive lattice-ordered monoids and residuated lattices. The theory of lattice-ordered groups provides themain source of inspiration for this thesis’ contributions on these topics

DUALITIES AND REPRESENTATIONS FOR MANY-VALUED LOGICS IN THE HIERARCHY OF WEAK NILPOTENT MINIMUM.

In this thesis we study particular subclasses of WNM algebras. The variety of WNM algebras forms the algebraic semantics of the WNM logic, a propositional many-valued logic that generalizes some well-known case in the setting of triangular norms logics. WNM logic lies in the hierarchy of schematic extensions of MTL, which is proven to be the logic of all left-continuous triangular norms and their residua. In this work, I have extensively studied two extensions of WNM logic, namely RDP logic and NMG logic, from the point of view of algebraic and categorical logic. We develop spectral dualities between the varieties of algebras corresponding to RDP logic and NMG logic, and suitable defined combinatorial categories. Categorical dualities allow to give algorithmic construction of products in the dual categories obtaining computable descriptions of coproducts (which are notoriously hard to compute working only in the algebraic side) for the corresponding finite algebras. As a byproduct, representation theorems for finite algebras and free finitely generated algebras in the considered varieties are obtained. This latter characterization is especially useful to provide explicit construction of a number of objects relevant from the point of view of the logical interpretation of the varieties of algebras: normal forms, strongest deductive interpolants and most general unifiers
