It includes technologies which enhance well-being of individuals, specifically for older people. The ACCOMPANY project focuses on home companion technologies and issues surrounding technology development for assistive purposes. The project responds to some overlooked aspects of technology design, divided into multiple areas such as empathic and social human-robot interaction, robot learning and memory visualisation, and monitoring persons’ activities at home. To bring these aspects together, a dedicated task is identified to ensure technological integration of these multiple approaches on an existing robotic platform, Care-O-Bot®3 in the context of a smart-home environment utilising a multitude of sensor arrays. Formative and summative evaluation cycles are then used to assess the emerging prototype towards identifying acceptable behaviours and roles for the robot, for example role as a butler or a trainer, while also comparing user requirements to achieved progress. In a novel approach, the project considers ethical concerns and by highlighting principles such as autonomy, independence, enablement, safety and privacy, it embarks on providing a discussion medium where user views on these principles and the existing tension between some of these principles, for example tension between privacy and autonomy over safety, can be captured and considered in design cycles and throughout project developmentsPeer reviewe

    The Internet of Things (IoT) concept is evolving rapidly and influencing newdevelopments in various application domains, such as the Internet of MobileThings (IoMT), Autonomous Internet of Things (A-IoT), Autonomous Systemof Things (ASoT), Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT), Internetof Things Clouds (IoT-C) and the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) etc.that are progressing/advancing by using IoT technology. The IoT influencerepresents new development and deployment challenges in different areassuch as seamless platform integration, context based cognitive network integration,new mobile sensor/actuator network paradigms, things identification(addressing, naming in IoT) and dynamic things discoverability and manyothers. The IoRT represents new convergence challenges and their need to be addressed, in one side the programmability and the communication ofmultiple heterogeneous mobile/autonomous/robotic things for cooperating,their coordination, configuration, exchange of information, security, safetyand protection.     This paper discusses the potential for service robots to overcome barriers and increase independence of elderly and disabled people. It includes a brief overview of the existing uses of service robots by disabled and elderly people and advances in technology which will make new uses possible and provides suggestions for some of these new applications. The paper also considers the design and other conditions to be met for user acceptance. It also discusses the complementarity of assistive service robots and personal assistance and considers the types of applications and users for which service robots are and are not suitable

    Acceptance of ambient assisted living (AAL) technologies among older Australians : a review of barriers in user experience

    One of the great challenges facing Australian society is that of an ageing population. Amongst the issues involved in this drastic demographic change, the most significant aspect is the demand for older Australians to live independently at home. The development of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) technologies aims to address this issue. The advancement of AAL applications have been done to support the users with their daily-life activities and health concerns by providing increased mobility, security, safety in emergencies, health-monitoring, improved lifestyle, and fall-detection through the use of sensors. However, the optimum uptake of these technologies among the end-users (the elderly Australians) still remains a big concern. Thus, there is an elevated need to understand the needs and preferences of the seniors in order to improve the acceptance of AAL applications. The aim of this study is to investigate the barriers and perceptions in the use of AAL applications amongst older Australians. Focus groups and quantitative surveys have been conducted to provide a detailed analysis of these impediments. The results show that there are different factors that restrict the use of these technologies along with the fact that elderly people have certain preferences when using them. An understanding of these factors has been gained and suggestions have been made to increase the acceptance of AAL devices. This work gives useful insights towards the design of AAL solutions according to user needs

    VOICE RECOGNIZATION FOR MOUSE CONTROL USING HCI

    One  of  the  most  important  research  areas  in  the  field  of  Human -Computer-Interaction (HCI) is gesture  recognition as it provides a natural and intuitive  way  to  communicate  between  people  and  machines.  Voice-based HCI applications range from computer applications to virtual/augmented reality and is recently being explored in other fields. This work proposes the implementation of absolute virtual mouse based on the interpretation of voice reorganization control. The procedure is to control the mouse pointer as for the mouse movement to up/down/left/right, open the file, dragging the file. This  virtual  device  is designed  specifically  as  an  alternative non-contact  pointer  for  people  with mobility impairments in the upper extremities. The implementation of the virtual mouse by voice control is to make HCI simplification for disabled persons especially for the person who are not having the hands and arms, and Alternative mouse cursor positioning system for laptops

    En el presente artículo de revisión se observaron los proyectos y avances implementados en la telemedicina colombiana, respecto al uso dado en las diferentes regiones del país, de esta manera se visualizan las diversas ramas en torno a las necesidades exigidas por cada sector de la nación. El artículo se divide en 5 secciones principales, en los que se realiza una descripción de la telemedicina, exponiendo el desarrollo de las diferentes técnicas usadas para la interfaz máquina-usuario, por medio de las telecomunicaciones y la telemática para una comunicación dinámica, continua e interactiva con el médico y el paciente, donde se ilustró las principales plataformas y herramientas utilizadas para un correcto desempeño de las aplicaciones, finalmente se generó una línea cronológica de tiempo que permite mostrar la evolución que ha tenido esta rama en Colombia.In this review article were observed, the projects and advances implemented in Colombian telemedicine, regarding the use given in the different regions of the country, in this way the different branches are visualized around the needs required by each sector of the nation. The article is divided into 5 main sections, in which a description of telemedicine is made, exposing the development of the different techniques used for the user-machine interface, through telecommunications and telematics for a dynamic, continuous and interactive communication with the doctor and the patient, where it was illustrated the main platforms and tools, used for a correct performance of the applications, finally a timeline was generated that allows to show the evolution that this branch has had in Colombia.Gite
