In this context, this work concretely covers media coding aspects and proposes the use of Multiple Description Coding (MDC) as a flexible solution for providing robust and scalable live streaming over P2P networks. This work describes current state of the art in media coding techniques and P2P streaming architectures, presents the implemented prototype as well as its simulation and validation results

    P2P overlay over Simctl

    This project intends to find and implement a p2p overlay over the simctl platform. Simctl is used both for teaching and research in the network engineering department.P2P systems became an interesting area since early 2000. Researchers conducted a large amount of research in some challenging areas and, to check their experiments, several implementations and simulators were created. Over time, Internet has evolved and P2P has been widely used for file sharing, but the main structured P2P overlays were progressively abandoned. However, these overlays are still taught in network engineering courses. The aim of this master thesis is to find and implement a p2p overlay over the \texttt{simctl} platform, used both for teaching and research in the network engineering department. First, it is tried to locate and test the original structured P2P overlays source codes developed by the authors of the original publications. Then, several available P2P implementations developed by researchers and users have been tested. Once the software was selected, different scenarios for \texttt{simctl} were developed. Finally, a lab session was created by using the previous scenarios

For that P2P networks are used, the exchange of information between agencies is facilitated, these now being applied in mobile networks, including MANETs, where they have special features such as the fact that they are semi-centralized, where it takes peers more ability to make a greater role in the network. But those peer with more capacity, which are used in the optimization of various parameters of these systems, such as optimization\to research, are difficult to identify due to the fact that the network does not have a fixed topology, be constantly changing, (we like to go online and offline, to change position, etc.) and not to allow the exchange of large messages. To this end, this thesis proposes a distributed election algorithm of us greater capacity among several possible goals, enhance research in the network. This includes distinguishing characteristics, such as election without global knowledge network, minimal exchange of messages, distributed decision made without dependence on us and the possibility of influencing the election outcome as the special needs of the network

    An Internet Robot Tele-operating System

    Abstract-A server-decentralized internet model based on Jabber for robot tele-operation with P2P stream media transfer supplement based on JXTA is proposed. The system is composed of four components: operators, robots, transfer servers and datakeeper. The robot-controlling data/robot state data are packed with XML stanzas and delivered to the resolved robot/operator through XML streams. The locale audio/video media streams of the robot are sent directly through P2P pipes to the operators. In order to test its availability and performance, the model is implemented and instanced as remote control systems for Virtual Puma560 robot and the Hexapod Monster robot. Experiments of the systems and network tests are carried out to evaluate the instances; the results show that the systems are suitable for many kinds of robot tele-operation scenarios despite the tough network environment

    Sampling cluster endurance for peer-to-peer based content distribution networks

    Several types of Content Distribution Networks are being deployed over the Internet today, based on different architectures to meet their requirements (e.g., scalability, efficiency and resiliency). Peer-to-peer (P2P) based Content Distribution Networks are promising approaches that have several advantages. Structured P2P networks, for instance, take a proactive approach and provide efficient routing mechanisms. Nevertheless, their maintenance can increase considerably in highly dynamic P2P environments. In order to address this issue, a two-tier architecture called Omicron that combines a structured overlay network with a clustering mechanism is suggested in a hybrid scheme. In this paper, we examine several sampling algorithms utilized in the aforementioned hybrid network that collect local information in order to apply a selective join procedure. Additionally, we apply the sampling algorithms on Chord in order to evaluate sampling as a general information gathering mechanism. The algorithms are based mostly on random walks inside the overlay networks. The aim of the selective join procedure is to provide a well balanced and stable overlay infrastructure that can easily overcome the unreliable behavior of the autonomous peers that constitute the network.
