    SAFE: Secure-Roaming Agents for E-commerce

    The development of the Internet has made a powerful impact on the concept of commerce. E-commerce, a new way to conduct business, is gaining more and more popularity. Despite its rapid growth, there are limitations that hinder the expansion of e-commerce. The primary concern for most people when talking about on-line shopping is security. Due to the open nature of the Internet, personal financial details necessary for on-line shopping can be stolen if sufficient security mechanism is not put in place. How to provide the necessary assurance of security to consumers remains a question mark despite various past efforts. Another concern is the lack of intelligence. The Internet is an ocean of information depository. It is rich in content but lacks the necessary intelligent tools to help one locate the correct piece of information. Intelligent agent, a piece of software that can act on behalf of its owner intelligently, is designed to fill this gap. However, no matter how intelligent an agent is, if it remains on its owner’s machine and does not have any roaming capability, its functionality is limited. With the roaming capability, more security concerns arise. In response to these concerns, SAFE, Secure roaming Agent For E-commerce, is designed to provide secure roaming capability to intelligent agents

    On MAS Scalability

    In open dynamic multi-agent environments the number of agents can vary significantly within very short periods of time. Very few (if any) current multi-agent systems have, however, been designed to cope with large-scale distributed applications. Scalability requires increasing numbers of new agents and resources to have no noticeable effect on performance nor to increase administrative complexity. In this paper a number of implications for techniques and management are discussed. Current research on agent middleware is briefly described.

    [[abstract]]Mobile agents refer to self-contained and identifiable computer programs that can migrate along the network and can act on behalf of the user or other agents. Mobile agents often work on heterogeneous network and operating system environment. Therefore, an integrated logical interface to access physical structure via mobile agent application is become more and more urgent. In this paper, we proposed a tracking and persistent agent-based mobility management system in the case of distance learning. The main purpose of our system is addressed to achieve the universal access objective. In order to let the whole mobility management system full play, we encapsulated the utility tools to be a role-setting object. The role-setting object is an application-driven component, which can provide customization benefits for user and matching the user’s demands. V této práci jsou popsány některé existující vyhledávací systémy založené na agentním přístupu. Ty sloužily jako inspirace při navrhu výsledného systému, který se snaží vyhledat informace na realitních serverech a poskytnout jejich přehled.Object of this bachelor thesis is design and implement an agent system for searching on real estate servers. Nowadays are agent systems one of the popular topics in artifical intelligence and offers a wide range of possible uses. One of them is searching for information on the Web. In this paper are described existing agent-based retrieval systems. They serve as insipiration to design the final system, which search information on real estate servers and create an overview of them.

    A New Approach of Intelligent Data Retrieval Paradigm

    What is a real time agent, how does it remedy ongoing daily frustrations for users, and how does it improve the retrieval performance in World Wide Web? These are the main question we focus on this manuscript. In many distributed information retrieval systems, information in agents should be ranked based on a combination of multiple criteria. Linear combination of ranks has been the dominant approach due to its simplicity and effectiveness. Such a combination scheme in distributed infrastructure requires that the ranks in resources or agents are comparable to each other before combined. The main challenge is transforming the raw rank values of different criteria appropriately to make them comparable before any combination. Different ways for ranking agents make this strategy difficult. In this research, we will demonstrate how to rank Web documents based on resource-provided information how to combine several resources raking schemas in one time. The proposed system was implemented specifically in data provided by agents to create a comparable combination for different attributes. The proposed approach was tested on the queries provided by Text Retrieval Conference (TREC). Experimental results showed that our approach is effective and robust compared with offline search platforms

    NASA science communications strategy

    In 1994, the Clinton Administration issued a report, 'Science in the National Interest', which identified new national science goals. Two of the five goals are related to science communications: produce the finest scientists and engineers for the 21st century, and raise scientific and technological literacy of all Americans. In addition to the guidance and goals set forth by the Administration, NASA has been mandated by Congress under the 1958 Space Act to 'provide for the widest practicable and appropriate dissemination concerning its activities and the results thereof'. In addition to addressing eight Goals and Plans which resulted from a January 1994 meeting between NASA and members of the broader scientific, education, and communications community on the Public Communication of NASA's Science, the Science Communications Working Group (SCWG) took a comprehensive look at the way the Agency communicates its science to ensure that any changes the Agency made were long-term improvements. The SCWG developed a Science Communications Strategy for NASA and a plan to implement the Strategy. This report outlines a strategy from which effective science communications programs can be developed and implemented across the agency. Guiding principles and strategic themes for the strategy are provided, with numerous recommendations for improvement discussed within the respective themes of leadership, coordination, integration, participation, leveraging, and evaluation

    International audienceThis paper presents an approach to design a multi-agent system managing a corporate memory in the form of a distributed semantic web and describes the resulting architecture. The system was designed during the CoMMA European project (Corporate MemoryManagement through Agents) and aims at helping users in the management of a corporate memory, facilitating the creation, dissemination, transmission and reuse of knowledge in an organisation. The implementation integrated several emerging technologies: multi-agents system technology (using the JADE FIPA-compliant platform), knowledge modelling and XML technology for information retrieval (using the CORESE semantic search engine) and machine learning techniques. Here, we describe the agent roles and interactions, we explain the design rationale for the agent societies and we discuss the configuration and implementation issues

    A more efficient document retrieval method for TEXPROS

    Document processing is a critical element of office automation. Through document classification, extraction and filing, documents are automatically placed into a knowledge base according to certain rules. Document retrieval is a process to get a document back according to a user\u27s requirements and to show the results to the user. Hence, a good user-interface and an efficient retrieval algorithm become core parts of document retrieval. Unlike previous browsers that have been proposed for this purpose, this dissertation develops a new browser that has a user interface with more tools, and one that has a more efficient retrieval algorithm that can deal with a wide variety of retrieval situations. In this dissertation, from the view of an interface, the new browser provides more functions such as zoom in and zoom out , (i.e. automatic scaling of the portion of a graph that is of interest to a user), and help. These functions give users an easier way to view a large graph in one window and provide users with help during the retrieval process. The new browser also provides an algorithm that makes retrieval more efficient by using a reusable base. The Reusable Base is used to hold information that is most related to the user previous desires and the information stored in the Reusable Base is more easily used to form the OP-Net than that in the System Catalog. Hence, it eliminates the need to go to the System Catalog to find the results. This speeds up the retrieval significantly -at least two times faster than without the Reusable Base. Further, the new browser provides information about the folder organization and the document type hierarchy that is in addition to the OP-Net. If users know the type of documents they want, or which folder they are interested in, they can go to the particular document type or the particular folder directly
