    Get PDF
Measurement results represent important information, which are necessary for evaluating and improving the quality of manufactured products and to control manufacturing processes. Furthermore, they build the basis for numerous decisions in the field of quality management, process and production automation or product development and design. Knowledge about the acquisition, evaluation and interpretation of measurement data as well as an understanding of the relevant influences on those measurement results are essential for employees working in the field of manufacturing metrology. Measurement results are always afflicted with deviations, due to a variety of causes. It follows that in order to assign a value to the reliability and quality of a measurement result its uncertainty must be determined and considered. However, employees in the field of quality management or metrology are often not familiar with methods for determination and interpretation of measurement uncertainty, because appropriate opportunities for training are missing in current vocational education. This need has led to the creation of the European project MUVoT, which will create a course for advanced vocational training in determining measurement uncertainty. The training course is based on a blended learning concept, combining self-dependent learning via a web-based platform and face-to-face workshops. This allows the adaption of individual knowledge and skills by self-controlled learning of abstract contents whilst the exercises enable the practical application of typical methods, which are generally considered as quite complex by many employees, and thus assure correct understanding. The featured Blended Learning concept facilitates the integration of the training into a workplace setting, thus the idea of Lifelong Learning is promoted in new fields of application. The curriculum and training concept for this newly developed training program have been designed such that the course can be applied internationally. To facilitate this, a harmonized scheme for course structure and contents has been defined albeit with inherent flexibility, allowing the adaptation to specific constraints

Benchmark of structured machine learning methods for microbial identification from mass-spectrometry data

Microbial identification is a central issue in microbiology, in particular in the fields of infectious diseases diagnosis and industrial quality control. The concept of species is tightly linked to the concept of biological and clinical classification where the proximity between species is generally measured in terms of evolutionary distances and/or clinical phenotypes. Surprisingly, the information provided by this well-known hierarchical structure is rarely used by machine learning-based automatic microbial identification systems. Structured machine learning methods were recently proposed for taking into account the structure embedded in a hierarchy and using it as additional a priori information, and could therefore allow to improve microbial identification systems. We test and compare several state-of-the-art machine learning methods for microbial identification on a new Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) dataset. We include in the benchmark standard and structured methods, that leverage the knowledge of the underlying hierarchical structure in the learning process. Our results show that although some methods perform better than others, structured methods do not consistently perform better than their "flat" counterparts. We postulate that this is partly due to the fact that standard methods already reach a high level of accuracy in this context, and that they mainly confuse species close to each other in the tree, a case where using the known hierarchy is not helpful

Supervision of schools in the UBE programme of the Federal Government of Nigeria is an aspect of quality control. It is bound with the efficiency of learning and improvement of the teaching/ learning services. Quality control of Basic Education centers is closely associated with a vital component of education (Monitoring & Evaluation). Today, ‘Quality Control’ is used more or less as a synonym for supervision or inspection which is within the comprehension of the wider segment of the educated publics. Instructional supervision in Nigeria began as a process of external inspection. In the 18th century, supervision was characterized by inspection for control and was carried out by laymen (Onoyase, 1991). Supervisors were appointed who were clergies and had little or no background on educational administration and management. The priest was made a supervisor of school on the basis of the priesthood belonging. Supervisors were inexperienced in the act of supervision. They had little or no formal training of the ethics, concept and practice of supervision. Until the control of schools by government in 1967, school supervision was left in the hands of the missionaries

Development of Authentic-UG adopting augmented reality technology on the Android platform with ARCore SDK that can measure lines and measure angles with high accuracy is an advantage that can be used for learning geometry to students in authentic learning design. Authentic-UG can detailed record each student's learning activities with the xAPI technology, the system also implemented with annotation features to facilitate student for explaining the answers after searching for geometry objects. Authentic-UG has a flexible system with the use of the RESTFUL API protocol that can be connected to the Dashboard-UG system, so that teachers can see each student's process when doing authentic activities. In this study, we developed the Authentic-UG to facilitate student in authentic learning and we investigate the relationship between learning behavior and learning assessment with learning achievement in fourth-grade elementary school students to learn geometry in the concept of angle and the concept of line. The participants of this study with 50 students, divided two groups that 25 students in the experimental group using Authentic- UG and 25 students in the control group for 10 weeks with the same initial prior knowledge between groups. The statistical results after using Authentic-UG in the learning process indicate that the experimental group has a better learning achievement, especially in the skill of estimation ability on geometry objects. The results of authentic work also checking by teacher assessment and peer assessment using scaffolding. Therefore, the most influential learning activities to help estimation ability in the combine topic which combines the angle concept & line concept and also the scaffolding can work well to help peer assessment quality. There is a phenomenon that students only focus on the concept of angle which is shown by the level on the accuracy of angle is more influent than the level of accuracy of the line. Student feel that using Authentic-UG is more happy learning experience because student feel motivated also healthy to active explore to searching geometry object and make measurement in the authentic environment
