    Student’s attendance system using QR code

    The purpose of this project is to develop a system that can record the presence of students using QR code. Previously, teachers needed to use paper to record student attendance. There are many problems that arise when teachers use paper as a record of student attendance such as a loss of attendance record and have been taken a long time. The objective of the study is to design a prototype interface of student attendance system using QR code and casing of QR code scanner, to build up the design the prototype interface of student attendance system using QR code and casing of QR code scanner and test the functionality the prototype of interface student attendance system using QR code and casing of QR code scanner. The interface for this system will be integrated with the LabVIEW Software to develop a database. This system can record the attendance of the student to school and a warning letter will be automatically generated when the student does not come to school in 2 days repeatedly. The development process of the Student Attendance System Using QR Code is based on the Prototype Development Model that consists of a five-phase model, that is planning, analysis, design, Prototype development, and testing. The design of casing for QR code scanner was developed using Sketchup software. LabVIEW Software is used to generate interface displays and built-in databases using Microsoft Excel. Overall, the system that has been developed can work well and achieves the objectives set

    QR code awareness in Stockholm, Sweden

    This tech report describes the findings of a street survey on awareness of QR codes (2D barcodes) of the general public in Stockholm, Sweden. 108 passers-by were surveyed. Of these participants, a large majority (77%) did not recognize a QR code, and 8% reported seeing such a code before, but did not know it could be scanned using a mobile phone app. Only 15% knew what the shown QR code was, and that it could be read using a QR code reader on a mobile phone. The awareness of QR codes by the general public could be considered rather low, and their utility in Swedish public settings is currently debatable

    ABSTRAKSalah satu bukti pesatnya perkembangan teknologi digital, yaitu adanya QR-Code yang sangat bermanfaat, salah satunya bagi dunia pendidikan, yang dapat digunakan dalam pembelajaran IPA yaitu pembuatan sistem informasi inventarisasi tanaman berbasis QR-Code untuk mengatasi kesulitan dalam mengidentifikasi berbagai jenis tanaman. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah; 1. Membuat QR-Code dan database inventarisasi tanaman; 2. Mengetahui respon peserta didik terkait pembuatan QR-Code dan database inventarisasi tanaman. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan di Annuban Wang Mai Sasanasart School yang terletak di Satun, Thailand Selatan. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 3 guru dan 17 peserta didik. Pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan metode penelitian terapan, langkah kegiatannya yaitu pendataan jenis tanaman, pembuatan QR-Code, pemasangan QR-Code, dan pembagian angket kuesioner. Didapatkan respon bahwa 57,1% siswa mengetahui tujuan pemberian QR-Code, merasa mudah dalam menggunakan QR-Code dan mengenal jenis tanaman, dan 42,9% sedikit mengetahui tujuan pemberian QR-Code, merasa sedikit mudah dalam menggunakan dan mengenal jenis tanaman, 85,7% siswa memahami manfaat pemasangan QR-Code, dapat memberikan informasi klasifikasi tanaman, memberikan motivasi belajar dan 14,3% siswa menjawab sedikit bisa, 71,4% menjawab bisa menggunakan QR-Code dan 28,6% sedikit bisa, 57,1% merasa mudah menggunakan QR-Code dan 42,9% sedikit mudah, seluruh siswa menjawab QR-Code memberikan pengalaman baru dan dapat menyediakan informasi lebih banyak terkait tanaman. Kata kunci: identifikasi tanaman; QR-Code; pembelajaran IPA.   ABSTRACTOne evidence of the rapid development of digital technology, namely the existence of a QR-Code which is very useful, one of which is for the world of education, which can be used in science learning, namely the creation of a QR-Code-based plant inventory information system to overcome difficulties in identifying various types of plants. The purpose of this service activity is; 1. Create a QR-Code and plant inventory database; 2. Knowing the responses of students regarding the creation of QR-Code and plant inventory databases. This dedication activity was carried out at the Annuban Wang Mai Sasanasart School which is located in Satun, Southern Thailand. This activity was attended by 3 teachers and 17 students. This service is carried out using applied research methods, the activity steps are collecting data on plant species, making QR-Code, installing QR-Code, and distributing questionnaires. The response was that 57.1% of students knew the purpose of giving the QR-Code, found it easy to use the QR-Code and recognize the types of plants, and 42.9% knew little about the purpose of giving the QR-Code, felt it was a little easy to use and recognize the types of plants, 85.7% of students understand the benefits of installing the QR-Code, can provide information on plant classification, provide motivation to learn and 14.3% of students answer a little can, 71.4% answer can use the QR-Code and 28.6% can a little, 57 .1% found it easy to use the QR-Code and 42.9% found it easy, all students answered that the QR-Code provided a new experience and could provide more information about plants. Keywords:  plant identification; QR-Code; science learning

    Using RGB colour combination in coloured quick response (QR) code algorithm to enhance QR code capacity

    A Quick Response (QR) Code is a two-dimensional barcode that stores characters and can be read by any smartphone camera. The QR code has the capability to encode various data formats and languages; nevertheless, existing black and white QR code offers limited data storage. Even though there exist research on coloured QR Code to increase the storage capacity, requirement for larger data capacity by end user keep increasing. Hence, this thesis proposes a coloured QR Code algorithm which utilizes RGB colour combination to allow a larger data storage. The proposed algorithm integrates the use of compression, multiplexing, and multilayer techniques in encoding and decoding the QR code. Furthermore, it also introduces a partial encoding/decoding algorithm that allows the stored data to be manipulated. The algorithm that includes encoding and decoding processes is based on the red, green, and blue (RGB) colour techniques, which are used to create high capacity coloured QR code. This is realised in the experiments that store American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) characters. The ASCII text characters are used as an input and performance is measured by the number of characters that can be stored in a single black and white QR code version 40 (i.e. the benchmark) and also the coloured QR code. Other experiment metrics include percentage of missing characters, number of produced QR code, and elapsed time to create the QR code. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm stores 29 times more characters than the black and white QR code and 9 times more than other coloured QR code. Hence, this shows that the coloured QR Code has the potential of becoming a useful mini-data storage as it does not rely on internet connection

    Pemanfaatan QR-Code sebagai media pembelajaran Bahasa Asing pada Perguruan Tinggi di Indonesia

    Tren pemanfaatan media ICT di dunia pendidikan mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan. Konsep tersebut mengarah sebagai upaya peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran. QR Code salah satu media berbasis ICT yang dikembangkan sebagai alat pemindai kode yang sangat cepat. Meskipun demikian, artikel tentang pemanfaatan QR Code belum banyak digunakan pada konteks dunia pendidikan di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengekplorasi pemanfaatkan QR Code sebagai media dalam mengoptimalkan proses pembelajaran bahasa asing di perguruan tinggi. Studi tentang pemanfaatan QR Code ini dilakukan pada tahun 2018 di Universitas Negeri Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan Indonesia. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Data diperoleh melalui survei penggunaan QR Code dan tes hasil belajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses pembelajaran menggunakan QR Code memberikan dampak positif dalam peningkatan proses pembelajaran. Melalui QR Code, mahasiswa dapat mengevaluasi hasil pekerjaannya dengan baik dan memberikan kemudahan dalam memahami materi yang dipelajari. Selain itu, hasil tes menunjukkan bahwa 63,63% mahasiswa dari jumlah total beberada pada kategori sangat baik. Hasil penelitian ini sangat relevan dalam pembelajaran, utamanya dalam meningkatkan motivasi belajar bahasa asing mahasiswa di perguruan tinggi.
