    A new two-scroll chaotic system with two nonlinearities: dynamical analysis and circuit simulation

    Chaos theory has several applications in science and engineering. In this work, we announce a new two-scroll chaotic system with two nonlinearities. The dynamical properties of the system such as dissipativity, equilibrium points, Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension and bifurcation diagram are explored in detail. The presence of coexisting chaotic attractors, coexisting chaotic and periodic attractors in the system is also investigated. In addition, the offset boosting of a variable in the new chaotic system is achieved by adding a single controlled constant. It is shown that the new chaotic system has rotation symmetry about the z-axis. An electronic circuit simulation of the new two-scroll chaotic system is built using Multisim to check the feasibility of the theoretical model.

    Design of Discrete-time Chaos-Based Systems for Hardware Security Applications

    Security of systems has become a major concern with the advent of technology. Researchers are proposing new security solutions every day in order to meet the area, power and performance specifications of the systems. The additional circuit required for security purposes can consume significant area and power. This work proposes a solution which utilizes discrete-time chaos-based logic gates to build a system which addresses multiple hardware security issues. The nonlinear dynamics of chaotic maps is leveraged to build a system that mitigates IC counterfeiting, IP piracy, overbuilding, disables hardware Trojan insertion and enables authentication of connecting devices (such as IoT and mobile). Chaos-based systems are also used to generate pseudo-random numbers for cryptographic applications.The chaotic map is the building block for the design of discrete-time chaos-based oscillator. The analog output of the oscillator is converted to digital value using a comparator in order to build logic gates. The logic gate is reconfigurable since different parameters in the circuit topology can be altered to implement multiple Boolean functions using the same system. The tuning parameters are control input, bifurcation parameter, iteration number and threshold voltage of the comparator. The proposed system is a hybrid between standard CMOS logic gates and reconfigurable chaos-based logic gates where original gates are replaced by chaos-based gates. The system works in two modes: logic locking and authentication. In logic locking mode, the goal is to ensure that the system achieves logic obfuscation in order to mitigate IC counterfeiting. The secret key for logic locking is made up of the tuning parameters of the chaotic oscillator. Each gate has 10-bit key which ensures that the key space is large which exponentially increases the computational complexity of any attack. In authentication mode, the aim of the system is to provide authentication of devices so that adversaries cannot connect to devices to learn confidential information. Chaos-based computing system is susceptible to process variation which can be leveraged to build a chaos-based PUF. The proposed system demonstrates near ideal PUF characteristics which means systems with large number of primary outputs can be used for authenticating devices

    Comparative evaluation of approaches in T.4.1-4.3 and working definition of adaptive module

    The goal of this deliverable is two-fold: (1) to present and compare different approaches towards learning and encoding movements us- ing dynamical systems that have been developed by the AMARSi partners (in the past during the first 6 months of the project), and (2) to analyze their suitability to be used as adaptive modules, i.e. as building blocks for the complete architecture that will be devel- oped in the project. The document presents a total of eight approaches, in two groups: modules for discrete movements (i.e. with a clear goal where the movement stops) and for rhythmic movements (i.e. which exhibit periodicity). The basic formulation of each approach is presented together with some illustrative simulation results. Key character- istics such as the type of dynamical behavior, learning algorithm, generalization properties, stability analysis are then discussed for each approach. We then make a comparative analysis of the different approaches by comparing these characteristics and discussing their suitability for the AMARSi project

    Dynamics meets Morphology: towards Dymorph Computation

    In this dissertation, approaches are presented for both technically using and investigating biological principles with oscillators in the context of electrical engineering, in particular neuromorphic engineering. Thereby, dynamics as well as morphology as important neuronal principles were explicitly selected, which shape the information processing in the human brain and distinguish it from other technical systems. The aspects and principles selected here are adaptation during the encoding of stimuli, the comparatively low signal transmission speed, the continuous formation and elimination of connections, and highly complex, partly chaotic, dynamics. The selection of these phenomena and properties has led to the development of a sensory unit that is capable of encoding mechanical stress into a series of voltage pulses by the use of a MOSFET augmented by AlScN. The circuit is based on a leaky integrate and fire neuron model and features an adaptation of the pulse frequency. Furthermore, the slow signal transmission speed of biological systems was the motivation for the investigation of a temporal delay in the feedback of the output pulses of a relaxation oscillator. In this system stable pulse patterns which form due to so-called jittering bifurcations could be observed. In particular, switching between different stable pulse patterns was possible to induce. In the further course of the work, the first steps towards time-varying coupling of dynamic systems are investigated. It was shown that in a system consisting of dimethyl sulfoxid and zinc acetate, oscillators can be used to force the formation of filaments. The resulting filaments then lead to a change in the dynamics of the oscillators. Finally, it is shown that in a system with chaotic dynamics, the extension of it with a memristive device can lead to a transient stabilisation of the dynamics, a behaviour that can be identified as a repeated pass of Hopf bifurcations
