Performance Evaluation of Automatically Generated Data Parallel Programs

International audienceIn this paper, the problem of evaluating the performance of parallel programs generated by data parallel compilers is studied. These compilers take as input an application written in a sequential language augmented with data distribution directives and produce a parallel version based on the specifed partitioning of data. A methodology for evaluating the relationships existing among the program characteristics, the data distribution adopted, and the performance indices measured during the program execution is described. It consists of three phases: a "static" description of the program under study, a "dynamic" description, based on the measurement and the analysis of its execution on a real system, and the construction of a workload model, by using workload characterization techniques. Following such a methodology, decisions related to the selection of the data distribution to be adopted can be facilitated. The approach is exposed through the use of the Pandore environment, designed for the execution of sequential programs on distributed memory parallel computers. It is composed of a compiler, a runtime system and tools for trace and profile generation. The results of an experiment explaining the methodology are presented

Prilog poznavanju danjih leptira (Hesperioidea & Papilionoidea) Velebita, Hrvatska

During the years 2005 and 2006, 106 butterfly species were identified on Mt. Velebit. The estimated distribution, diversity and biogeographical characteristics of each species are presented in this paper as well as a comparison between recently estimated butterfly fauna and that identified in the past century. Current check-list of 137 butterflies from Mt. Velebit is contained in the Appendix.U dvogodišnjem razdoblju (2005. i 2006.) na prostoru Velebita zabilježeno je 106 vrsta danjih leptira. U radu se navodi njihovo rasprostranjenje, raznolikost kao i biogeografska karakteristika za svaku utvrđenu vrstu. Isto tako uspoređuje se fauna danjih leptira toga prostora utvrđena u prošlom stoljeću s recentnim podacima, te se na temelju toga daje popis 137 vrsta danjih leptira Velebita

Walter Crane lit Barbe bleue : amour, violence… et politique

A major figure of the Arts and Crafts Movement, Walter Crane gives an interpretation of Perrault’s tale which abundantly displays the wealth of scenery and costumes; a convinced socialist, he also transforms the story into a political fable, where Bluebeard embodies Capital, and where the final release of his wife looks like a revolution. However, this re-reading is discreet, the illustrator being too respectful towards the text to freely adapt its content; this reinterpretation manifests itself only through symbols, mythological allusions or iconographic details, with which Walter Crane punctuates his series of images.Quand il met en images « La Barbe bleue », l’illustrateur victorien Walter Crane se soumet à un certain nombre de contraintes éditoriales qui l’obligent à considérablement synthétiser le récit de Perrault pour le faire tenir dans un album de huit pages. Figure majeure des Arts and Crafts, Walter Crane donne une interprétation du conte de Perrault qui insiste considérablement sur la richesse des décors et des costumes ; socialiste convaincu, il fait aussi du récit une fable politique, où Barbe bleue incarne le capital, et la libération finale de son épouse prend des couleurs de révolution. Cette relecture reste toutefois discrète, l’illustrateur se montrant trop respectueux du texte pour en adapter librement le contenu, et elle ne se manifeste que par le biais de symboles, d’allusions mythologiques ou de détails iconographiques dont Walter Crane ponctue sa série d’images

L’espoir à travers les proverbes espagnols, français et leur traduction

Le but de cette étude est de comparer la manière dont les proverbes espagnols et leurs équivalents français, obtenus sur le site Refranero Multilingüe (RM), expriment l’espoir, l’espoir en tant que sentiment universel qui fait entrevoir comme probable la réalisation de ce que l’on désire. À partir des énoncés extraits du RM nous tenterons donc de montrer que, quelquefois, même si ces deux langues, l’espagnol et le français, sont très proches, car elles ont une origine commune, le latin, elles présentent également des différences quand il leur faut exprimer un désir aussi universel que l’espoir
