This study aimed to describe the process of creative thinking of students in XI grade IPA-2 SMA Negeri 1 Polanharjo that have AQ climber characteristic in the mathematics problem solving in quiet materials based on Wallas steps, they are: preparation, incubation, illumination and verification. The approach t used in this study is qualitative approach. The collecting data in this study used task based on interview method. The process of creative thinking of the climber student in the mathematics problem solving in probability materials, are: (1) in the preparation step, students were enthusiastically when they were given problem solving task. The students explain the case that they knowed and asked in complete and correct with some way, that were: (a) writing the steps and changing into examples, (b) just writing the steps, (c) just changing the case that known in examples; (2) in the incubation step, when the students are understanding probability of event, they: (a)are practising that probability, (b) focus to understand on the problem, (c) less focus to understand on the problem. Then students get an idea by making a complete diagram then multiply the possibilities of occuring on the first and second taking; (3) in the illumination step, student counts probability values are based on complete diagram to sum possibillity of the relevant probability. Students get the new way, that: (a) are the uncomplete diagram and probability formulas, (b) the uncomplete diagram, (c) probability formulas. Students explain the origin of the new way found. Students finish the problem with the new way; (4) in the verification step, students retest all the cases having done befound and corrected the obtained probability values using the old and new way, both of them get the same and correct result

Creative thinking skill is high order thinking skill which must be empowered in education, because it is an important component in the development of science and technology. Creative thinking skill can be integrated into the curiculum that is implemented through learning activities such as science/biology or other subjects. The aims of this study are to develop RICOSRE learning model to empower the creative thinking skill. The study used the research and development design of PLOMP (1997), which consists of 5 phases, namely (1) initial investigation phase, (2) design phase, (3) realization/construction phase, (4) test, evaluation, and revisions phase, and (5) implementation phase. The result of this study was RICOSRE learning model consist of: Reading, Indentifying the Problem, Contructing the Solution, Solving the Problem, Reviewing the Problem Solving, and Extending the Problem Solving. The product has been validated with the results of content validity and construct validity are very good. The RICOSRE learning model can be implemented in learning to improve students' creative thinking skill. Hasil penelitian berupa model pembelajaran RICOSRE yang terdiri atas tahap Reading, Indentifying the Problem, Contructing the Solution, Solving the Problem, Reviewing the Problem Solving, and Extending the Problem Solving.

The aim of this research and development is to produce a students book characterized with open ended mathematics problem to build creative thinking. The specification of this students book lies in the given problem is loading open problems that can be completed providing with many answers. This research and development uses 4D model by Thiagarajan, et al. (1974), that is define, design, and develop. Instruments and RPP were also developed to support students book development. This students book has met the valid, practical, and effective criteria and can build students' creative thinking. This is demonstrated by more than 70% of students have met the minimal creative category, so that students' creative thinking has been awakened. Keywords: student book, open ended problem, creative thinkin

The Correlation between Gifted Students’ Cost and Task Value Perceptions towards Mathematics: The Mediating Role of Expectancy Belief

    Get PDF
In this study whether the expectancy belief has a mediating role in the correlation between cost value perception and task value perception of gifted students towards mathematics was examined. It is predicted that the correlation between cost value and task value perceptions of gifted students towards mathematics can change according to their expectancy belief levels. This may shed light on the studies aiming to identify the factors affecting gifted students’ motivational beliefs towards mathematics and aiming to improve their mathematics performance. This study is conducted through relational screening model. Relational screening models aim to define the presence and degree of change between two or more variables. In this study, the presence and degree of correlation between expectancy belief, task value and task difficulty perceptions of gifted students towards mathematics are examined. 203 fifth and sixth-grade gifted students who were studying at the Art and Science Centers in 12 different cities in Turkey participated in the study. To identify the expectancy belief, task value and cost value perceptions of gifted students participating in the study towards mathematics were measured by Self and Task Perception Questionnaire. According to the results, when expectancy belief is included in the model as a mediating variable, the direct effect of cost on task value decreases and becomes statistically insignificant. In the mediation model, a major part of the direct effect of cost value perception on task value perception occurs through expectancy belief indirectly. It is understood that expectancy belief has a full mediating role in the correlation between cost value and task value perceptions. Expectancy belief of gifted students towards mathematics has a mediating role in the correlation between cost value and task value perceptions. Thus, the expectancy belief perception towards mathematics is of great importance for gifted students and it has a determining role in the correlation between cost value and task value perceptions
