    The Influence of Organizational Justice on the Organizational Commitment of Personnel in South-West Nigerian Public University Libraries

    For university libraries to achieve their set goals and objectives, a committed workforce is indispensable. Several factors could enhance the commitment of library personnel. However, studies have not given adequate attention to the influence of organizational justice on the organizational commitment of library personnel in Nigeria. This study, therefore, investigated the influence of organizational justice on the organizational commitment of library personnel in public universities in South-West Nigeria. A survey research design was adopted. A total remuneration was used. Findings showed that organizational justice had a significant influence on organizational commitment of library personnel. The findings also revealed that distributive justice and interactional justice significantly influenced the affective commitment of library personnel while procedural justice was not significant. Furthermore, distributive justice and interactional justice had a significant influence on the continuance commitment of library personnel while procedural justice had no significant effect on the continuance commitment of library personnel. The study concluded that organizational justice increased organizational commitment of library personnel in public universities. The study would serve as a contribution towards solving the challenges of lack of organizational commitment in academic libraries. It was recommended that library management should involve the personnel in their decision-making processes

    The Correlation of Library Personnel Motivation Work Attitude and Work Motivation to Job Performance in Nigeria

    The purpose of this study was to reconnoiter the effects of library personnel work attitude and motivation as correlates of job performance in a survey of public libraries in Kwara state, Nigeria. This study employed a descriptive survey method of correlational type. This study applied an enumeration survey technique or total census to all library personnel in a nominated public library in Kwara State of Nigeria. This study employs three objectives to guide the study. Findings showed that library personnel had a good attitude about their jobs, and library personnel work motivation showed that employees in the library are provided with good working materials, and their workplace's management provides library personnel with opportunities for training and development. Also, the study on the job performance of library personnel found that library personnel set reasonable priorities for task completion, and personnel is always on time for deadlines and completion of tasks. Conclusively, years of experience at a job correlate significantly with job performance, whereas work attitudes and motivation do not correlate significantly. Based on the results, this study suggests a good relationship between library management and personnel to ensure a positive working attitude. Also, the library personnel should be able to establish a good working relationship to reduce the possibility of turnover

    Background: This paper is an attempt to investigate occupational burnout among library personnel in University Libraries in Ogun State, Nigeria. Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion which is caused by prolonged stress. Objectives: find out if library personnel in academic libraries in Ogun State, do experience occupational burnout, Highlight the perceived causes of occupational burnout, identify the consequences of occupational burnout on the library personnel surveyed and strategies to mitigate burnout syndrome among library personnel. Methods: A descriptive survey method was adopted for the study Two hundred and thirty six copies of structured questionnaire were administered and Two hundred and twenty one (representing 93.6% response rate) were retrieved. One hypothesis was tested using Pearson correlation. Results: The causes of occupational burnout among library personnel sampled ranged from inadequate resources to work with, rigid working hours, unfavorable policies. Discussions: Drawing from the analysis carried out, there are some factors that affect the level of burnout experienced by the library personnel; these factors go a long way to affect the level of occupational burn out experienced. Conclusion: The paper concludes that the level of commitment of the library personnel could be determined by the nature of prevailing policies in the institutio

    MENTORING AND EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION AS DETERMINANTS OF JOB PRODUCTIVITY OF LIBRARY PERSONNEL IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN OSUN STATE, NIGERIA.

    The study examined mentoring and employee motivation as a determinant of job productivity of library personnel, given the increasing importance and need for library personnel in providing effective and efficient information service delivery. In this ever-changing need of library users, it is necessary to examine what determines the job productivity of library personnel. A survey design was adopted for this study. The total number of library personnel in the ten university libraries was one hundred and fourteen, which constitutes the respondents for the study. A total enumeration was adopted in the study as eighty-six library personnel were used as the sample size. A questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts, simple percentages, and inferential statistics of regression with the use of the Software Package for Service Solution (SPSS) tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The finding showed that the job productivity level of the library personnel is of a significant rate of 79.1%, which implies that they are productive and also mentoring determines their job productivity at 65.1% while the extent of the motivation of the library personnel responds rate is 58.1%. Mentoring (Beta = .510, t= 7.537, P\u3c0.05) and motivation (Beta = .259, t= 4.108, P\u3c0.05) had relative influence on job productivity. The study concluded that mentoring and motivation are essential for the development of productive library personnel. This study recommends that universities should embolden motivational practices. Also, libraries should improve on their mentoring activities by encouraging the transfer of novel and long-standing skills to younger library personnel in the profession as a means of increasing their loyalty and increasing job productivity

    Influence of Promotion and Prompt Salary Payment on Job Performance of Library Personnel in University Libraries in Nasarawa State, Nigeria.

    ABSTRACT The study investigated the influence promotion and prompt salary payment on job performance of library personnel in university libraries in Nasarawa State. Two (2) specific objectives with corresponding research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted a survey research design and was carried out in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The population of the study was 150 library personnel in the University libraries in Nasarawa State which were made up 44 library personnel in federal university Lafia, 66 library personnel in Nasarawa State University Keffi and 40 library personnel in Bingham University Karu, Nasarawa State. The total of 150 library personnel in the universities were used. The instrument for data collection was a self-developed structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was subjected to face and content validation by three experts. To ensure internal consistency of the instrument, the instrument was trial tested on thirty (30) Library personnel in Benue State university library Makurdi and Francis Idachaba library, federal university of Agriculture Makurdi who were not part of the main study but considered to have similar characteristics with the subject under study. The reliability of the instrument was calculated using Cronbach Alpha method and a reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained. The data collected were analyzed using Means and Standard Deviation to answer the research questions and Chi-Square statistic to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that promotion and regular salary payment have influence on job performance of library personnel in university libraries in Nasarawa State. Conclusion and recommendations were made based on the findings of the study

    INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AMONG EMPLOYEES OF REGIONAL OFFICE OF LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES (BAPUSIPDA) WEST JAVA AND ITS CONNECTION WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF LIBRARIAN This study aims to determine the relationship between interpersonal communications in the West Java Environmental BAPUSIPDA employees with the performance of library personnel. This research was conducted in the Library and Archives of West Java Province. The approach used in this study using a quantitative approach to research the type of correlation. The population in this study is employees BAPUSIPDA at the library with a random sampling technique (simple random sampling). For data collecting technique is done through questionnaires, interviews, observation and literature study. Based on the results of the study can be argued that that there hubunan between interpersonal communication on energy performance libraries in the Library Board and the Regional Archives (BAPUSIPDA), West Java.     Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment of Library Personnel in Public Universities in Nigeria

    Purpose: The purpose of the study is to determine the influence of job satisfaction on organizational commitment of library personnel in public universities in South-West Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach: Cross-sectional survey research design was adopted for the study. Total enumeration was used. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation were also used to analyze the research questions while inferential statistics such as multiple regression analysis were used to test the hypotheses. Findings: Findings showed that job satisfaction had significant influence on organizational commitment of library personnel. The results also showed that work itself had significant influence on affective commitment of library personnel in public universities in South-West, Nigeria. In addition, the findings revealed that supervision, salary and recognition had positive and significant influence on continuance commitment of library personnel in public universities in South-West, Nigeria. The results revealed that recognition and work itself had positive and significant influence on normative commitment of library personnel in public universities in South-West, Nigeria. Level of security had a negative and significant influence on normative commitment of library personnel in public universities in South-West, Nigeria. The study concluded that job satisfaction increased organizational commitment of library personnel in public universities. It was recommended that library management should create an enabling environment and ensure regular promotion of the personnel.Originality/Value: The study has been able to establish that low commitment could be as a result of lack of job satisfaction. The results may be useful to university management who wish to enhance commitment of their personnel
