I therefore intend to focus my attention on transparency issues as they relate to the decision-making process and leave out those issues relating to the legislative process. Moreover, I shall restrict myself to examining a few selected issues concerning the topic and shall base my examination principally on some of the more recent judgments of the Court of First Instance and the Court of Justice of the European Communities (together, “Community Courts”)

Just a Taste: Lectures on Flavor Physics

We review the flavor structure of the Standard Model and the ways in which the flavor parameters are measured. This is an extended writeup of the TASI 2016 lectures on flavor physics. Earlier versions of these lectures were presented at pre-SUSY 2015 and Cornell University's Physics 7661 course in 2010.Comment: 138 pages, includes problems and solutions. To be published in the proceedings of TASI 201

Not Just a Beat, Not Just a Scene

The purpose of this research project is to provide an analysis of the music and production techniques of well known instrumental Hip Hop producers, and to then apply them to my own artistic and creative processes in the creation of an instrumental beat tape utilizing samples primarily from the mediteranean region of europe, all in the pursuit of finding my own voice and identity as an artist and producer. Through gathering information regarding the creative processes and techniques utilized by these producers from interviews, tutorials, live streams, articles, Instagram Q&A’s, and more, I was able to find a process consisting of a set of steps (workflow) that I generally follow every time I make a new track, that I find to be streamlined and efficient for the way that I like to create. By compiling this information into a research document, I hope to offer a helpful resource to other aspiring artists and producers that can offer some sort of guidance to those looking for new techniques or are still searching for their own personal creative process.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-contemporary-performance/1212/thumbnail.jp

Dynamik der Radonfolgeprodukt-Aktivität imSpeichel nach therapeutischer Radon-Exposition

Radon decay product activity was measured in saliva of 10 male patients 20-30 min after a 1-hour radon exposure in the gallery of the Gasteiner Heilstollen (radon activity 36.2 kBq/m(3), radon progeny activity 20.3 kBq/m(3)), in 1 patient showing relatively high activity (75th percentile) measurements were continued until 65 min after exposure. Patients were asked to collect about 2 mi of saliva in the mouth and produce it on a filter. After drying the filter at 300 degrees C, radon progeny activity was measured. Activity (median) at 20-30 min after leaving the treatment area was 4.5 Bq (25th percentile 1 Bq; 75th percentile 21 Bq). In the patient who underwent additional measurements the activity showed a further increase up to 29 Bq (35 min after radon exposure) before it continuously decreased to a very low activity (1-3 Bq) at 65 min after exposure. The results show that a significantly increased radon decay product activity is found in saliva after speleotherapeutic radon exposure. Maximum values were observed 35 min after radon exposure. Radon decay product activity almost disappeared after about 1 h

A Communication Model: Learning with children, young people and young adults about how we can keep them safe. The ‘Not Just a Thought…’ communication model has been co-produced with 75 children and young people who worked with professionals from the NHS, Social Services, Education, Police and the Charitable Sector. This was done in an environment that encouraged young people to feel they were equal to the adults in the decision making process

VLBI imaging of a flare in the Crab Nebula: More than just a spot

We report on very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations of the radio emission from the inner region of the Crab Nebula, made at 1.6 GHz and 5 GHz after a recent high-energy flare in this object. The 5 GHz data have provided only upper limits of 0.4 milli-Jansky (mJy) on the flux density of the pulsar and 0.4 mJy/beam on the brightness of the putative flaring region. The 1.6 GHz data have enabled imaging the inner regions of the nebula on scales of up to ~40". The emission from the inner "wisps" is detected for the first time with VLBI observations. A likely radio counterpart (designated "C1") of the putative flaring region observed with Chandra and HST is detected in the radio image, with an estimated flux density of 0.5±0.30.5\pm 0.3\,mJy and a size of 0.2-0.6". Another compact feature ("C2") is also detected in the VLBI image closer to the pulsar, with an estimated flux density of 0.4 +- 0.2 mJy and a size smaller than 0{\farcs}2. Combined with the broad-band SED of the flare, the radio properties of C1 yield a lower limit of ~0.5 mG for the magnetic field and a total minimum energy of 1.2*10^41 ergs vested in the flare (corresponding to using about 0.2% of the pulsar spin-down power). The 1.6 GHz observations provide upper limits for the brightness (0.2 mJy/beam) and total flux density (0.4 mJy) of the optical Knot 1 located at 0.6" from the pulsar. The absolute position of the Crab pulsar is determined, and an estimate of the pulsar proper motion is obtained.Comment: Astronomy & Astrophysics; accepted; 10 pages, 8 figure
