[From the Introduction]. Ever since it was born in the sixties, the Andean Regional Integration Process has attempted to become a strategy to promote a harmonious and balanced development among the Andean Countries. This paper has tree mains goals: (a) To explain and analyse the theoretical concept of the Andean New Regionalism in the framework of Latin American region in a comparative perspective with the European Model of Regional Integration; (b) To show the coexistence of two different regional integration models. Where the dominating one during the sixties was known as old regionalism, and the other that is currently being used is known as new regionalism, and (c) To analyse the way in which this coexistence appears to be an obstacle for the Andean countries to define their regional integration model and to advance toward their main goal: the balanced and harmonious development of each and every country member

Stereotypes and valuations of Peruvian social groups in a sample of wealthy people from Lima = Estereotipos y valoración de grupos sociales peruanos en una muestra de personas de sectores sociales privilegiados de Lima

Peruvian society is characterized by its ethnical, cultural and socioeconomic diversity, which leads to complex intergroup relations. To contribute to understanding this phenomenon, the present study aims to examine the stereotypical representations and prejudice towards different Peruvian social groups by high-socioeconomic-status group members from Lima. The research used a mixed-method design for complementing two different approaches: a quantitative one, where questionnaires were administered to a sample of 90 participants; and a qualitative one, in which semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 participants. The results showed that the participants identified high- and low-status groups in the Peruvian society, and hold ambivalent stereotypical representations towards them. The participants identified and valued White Peruvians as high-status group members, who are competent and developed but also corrupt. On the other hand, they identified and valued Amazonian and African Peruvians to a lesser extent, who are considered as low-status, undeveloped but joyful groups. The study emphasizes the importance of social class attributes used in the formation of stereotypical representations and prejudice towards different Peruvian social groups

Intereses nacionales convergentes en una apuesta colectiva: la alianza del pacífico

Este documento indaga sobre los determinantes que hicieron posible la creación de la Alianza del Pacífico. Para ello, se describen elementos del contexto internacional y regional dentro del cual se gestó la Alianza, y que permitió la convergencia de unos intereses afines entre Chile, Colombia, Perú y México que, determinados por identidades similares, desembocaron en un proyecto colectivo: La Alianza del Pacífico. El argumento principal es que los intereses, las características y las identidades comunes configuraron unas preferencias nacionales que fueron materializadas en la creación de un proyecto de integración económica con características particulares, que sirve de plataforma para la coordinación, la articulación, la inserción y el desarrollo económico de sus miembros.This paper investigates the determinants that made possible the creation of the Pacific Alliance. For this purpose, a description of the elements of the international and regional context in which the Alliance was created and that allowed the convergence of related interests between Chile, Colombia, Peru and Mexico that, determined by similar identities, led to the creation of a collective project: The Pacific Alliance. It is argued that the interests, characteristics and similar identities, configured some national preferences that were materialized in the creation of an economic integration project with particular characteristics which serves as a platform for the coordination, articulation, insertion and economic development of its members

Efecto de la carretera Interoceánica en el comercio internacional de Perú y Brasil

Integration is an ongoing activity of any commercial process. The elimination of trade barriers between countries allows to gain from their comparative advantages and strengthen its position in international trade. In these circumstances, is entering the relationship of the Inter-oceanic Highway, built by Peru and Brazil. The objective of this document is to explain the influence of inter-oceanic highway as part of a process of economic integration, in which the major traditional markets, enter into a process of contraction and thereby the countries with less bargaining power internationally have to find mechanisms to enable gain advantage in this process. The article is based on the results of a qualitative research, based on the research literature related to the issues of economic integration and inter-oceanic highway.La integración es una actividad constante de todo proceso comercial. La eliminación de las barreras comerciales entre los países permite obtener provecho de sus ventajas comparativas y, así, fortalecer su posición en el comercio internacional. En esas circunstancias, se inscribe la relación de la carretera Interoceánica, integrada por Perú y Brasil. En ese sentido, el objetivo central de este documento es explicar la influencia de la carretera Interoceánica como parte de un proceso de integración económica, en el cual los grandes mercados tradicionales entran en un proceso de contracción y, por lo tanto, los países proveedores, con menor capacidad de negociación internacional, tienen que buscar mecanismos que les permitan obtener ventajas en dicho proceso. El artículo parte de los resultados de una investigación de carácter cualitativo, sustentada en la bibliografía de investigadores relacionados con los temas de integración económica y de la carretera Interoceánica
