    Applying Classification Techniques in E-Learning System: An Overview

    The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of application of data mining methods in e-learning process. E-learning is concerned with web-based learning which is totally depending upon internet. Use of data mining algorithms can help to discover the relevant information from database obtained from web based education system. This paper focused on e-learning problems to which data mining techniques have been applied, including: student’s classification based on their learning performance, detection of irregular learning behavior of students. This paper shows types of various modeling techniques used which includes: neural network, fuzzy logic, graph and trees, association rules and multi agent systems

    The analysis of structural models that reflect the topology of project management processes using directed graphs is performed. It is shown that the essence of the analysis of directed graphs is connected with the determination of closed cycles. To solve the problem of analysis of structural objects, it is proposed to use the method of analytical definition of cycles in complex systems describing the set of competences in the field of project management. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the industry component of the field of knowledge. The requirements for the evaluation of competencies, as well as for the system of training professionals in the field of project management, it would be very logical to harmonize with the specifics of the industry. At the same time, universal models do not offer acceptable solutions. Therefore, in this research, it is proposed to resolve this contradiction on the basis of an analysis of the system of competencies as directed graph.The possibility of structural analysis of directed graphs due to specific properties of adjacency and reachability matrices is proved, which makes it possible to automate the structural analysis of control schemes based on the competence approach.Aspects of knowledge management are traditionally considered as the main component of project management and as an object of study in the professional training of project managers. The second direction is, strangely enough, the least studied, although the training and trainings allow to resolve the contradictions of the project management. Existing approaches to knowledge management in the field of professional project management do not always provide an effective formation of the education trajectory due to the lack of models, methods and means of analyzing the relation of competencies. The mutual relations of competences form the core of knowledge that forms the basis of fundamentally new provisions in the formation of the content of academic disciplines. The theoretical provisions of this study can be applied in the practice of professional project management and advanced training to form the trajectory of career development of personnel.Выполнен анализ структурных моделей, которые отражают топологию процессов управления проектами с помощью ориентированных графов. Показано, что сущность анализа ориентированных графов связана с определением замкнутых циклов. Доказана возможность структурного анализа ориентированных графов благодаря специфическим свойствам матриц смежности и матриц досягаемости, что позволяет автоматизировать структурный анализ схем управления на основе компетентностного подхода.Виконано аналіз структурних моделей, які відображають топологію процесів управління проектами за допомогою орієнтованих графів. Показано, що сутність аналізу орієнтованих графів пов’язана з визначенням замкнених циклів.     Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Educação, Programa Pós-Graduação em Ciência da Informação, Florianópolis, 2017.A adoção de plataformas de e-learning (aprendizagem eletrônica) para a educação a distância (EaD) de universidades ao redor do mundo, tem sido uma das opções para estudantes que buscam flexibilidade e formação por meio da autoaprendizagem. Nesse aspecto, abre-se espaço para estudos de meios de trazer benefícios aos estudantes, dentre eles, promover acesso às informações que possam propiciar melhorias no fluxo contínuo no processo de aprendizagem. Um Sistema de Recomendação de Objetos de Aprendizagem Digitais possibilita contribuir com esse processo, além de atenuar as dificuldades face às complexidades nos processos de recuperação de informação relevante, devido à sobrecarga informacional nos repositórios dos cursos assim como na web. Os estudos acerca desses sistemas tem como premissa a sugestão de objetos, relacionados ao nível em que o estudante se encontra, como forma de apoiá-lo e contribuir para sua evolução. Nesta perspectiva, a presente pesquisa tem como objetivo geral ?Analisar como um Sistema de Recomendação de Objetos de Aprendizagem Digitais pode contribuir com estudantes de curso superior em modalidade de e-learning.?. Como estudo de caso, adota-se o curso de Licenciatura em Letras ? Espanhol (EaD/UFSC). No referencial teórico aborda-se a Recuperação de Informação, os Sistemas de Recomendação no contexto do e-learning, os Objetos de Aprendizagem Digitais e as tecnologias de Agentes Inteligentes e ainda, se estabelece articulação com a Ciência da Informação. A pesquisa caracteriza-se, quanto aos objetivos, como pesquisa bibliográfica de caráter exploratório que emprega a técnica de análise de conteúdo; quanto à forma de abordagem, como pesquisa qualitativa e quanto à revisão teórica, uma revisão sistemática. Como resultados foram elaborados o Modelo de Banco de Dados para armazenamento dos dados, bem como o Fluxo de Informação do Sistema de Recomendação para e-learning, para representar os processos de acesso às informações organizadas e armazenadas no banco. Um dos pontos relevantes, caracterizado neste trabalho, é o fato de que um Sistema de Recomendação permite ampliar o poder de recomendação de Objetos de Aprendizagem Digitais do professor. Sob a perspectiva de planejamento e organização da informação para uso, conclui-se ser viável a continuidade nas pesquisas para que os Sistemas de Recomendação possam ser adotados não somente no ambiente de estudo de caso desta pesquisa, assim como em quaisquer outros ambientes de aprendizagem com adoção de novas formas (modelos, técnicas, alvos, entre outros) de implementação.Abstract : The adoption of e-learning platforms for distance education by universities around the world has been one of the options for students seeking flexibility and training through self-learning. In this context, research is required on ways to benefit the students, promoting access to information that can improve the continuous flow of the learning process. A Recommender System of Digital Learning Objects can contribute to this process and, additionally, alleviate the difficulties faced in the complex processes of retrieving relevant information, due to the informational overload in the course?s repositories as well as on the web. Studies about these systems are based on the suggestion of objects, related to the level at which the student is at, as a way to support and contribute to their evolution. In this perspective, the present research has as general objective: "To analyze how a Recommender System of Digital Learning Objects can support the students of e-learning graduation course". As a case study, it has been chosen the e-learning degree in Letters - Spanish (EaD / UFSC). In the theoretical reference it is addressed the Information Retrieval, the Recommender Systems in the context of e-learning, the Digital Learning Objects and the Intelligent Agents technologies, and it is also established the relation with Information Science. The research is characterized as regards to the objectives as: an exploratory bibliographic research that employs the technique of content analysis; qualitative research; and a systematic review. As result, the Database Model was developed, as well as the Information Flow of the Recommender System for e-learning, to represent the processes for accessing the information organized and stored in the database. One of the key points characterized in this work is the fact that a Recommender System improves the quality of the teacher?s recommendations of Digital Learning Objects. From the perspective of planning and organizing information, it was concluded that follow up research is viable so that Recommender Systems can be adopted not only in the case study of this research, but in any other learning environment adopting new methods (models, techniques, targets, among others) of implementation

    Interactions and New Directions in Near Eastern Archaeology is the third volume of the Proceedings of the 5th Broadening Horizons International Conference that was held at the University of Udine from 5th to 8th June 2017. Broadening Horizons aims to be an international platform for postgraduate students and early-career researchers in the wide Near Eastern archaeology field. The main topic of the conference Civilizations in Contact served to emphasize the importance of cross-cultural interactions in the Near East over time. In particular, the present volume is devoted to the papers from Session 7, “Civilizations in contact: current research and new approaches in Mediterranean and Near Eastern Archaeology”, and Session 6, “Marine connections: the Gulf and the interactions between the Arabian Peninsula, Mesopotamia, the Iranian world and beyond”. The volume contains 24 peer-reviewed papers divided into two parts, introduced by the two key-lectures which were given by Elena Rova and Maurizio Cattani. These proceedings give a vivid picture of the exchanges and interactions that occurred during the presentation and debate of specialist papers in Udine at the conference. The diversity in terms of geographical environments, historical periods, and topics in Near Eastern archaeology stands out among the contributions published here.     Multimedia Development of English Vocabulary Learning in Primary School

    In this paper, we describe a prototype of web-based intelligent handwriting education system for autonomous learning of Bengali characters. Bengali language is used by more than 211 million people of India and Bangladesh. Due to the socio-economical limitation, all of the population does not have the chance to go to school. This research project was aimed to develop an intelligent Bengali handwriting education system. As an intelligent tutor, the system can automatically check the handwriting errors, such as stroke production errors, stroke sequence errors, stroke relationship errors and immediately provide a feedback to the students to correct themselves. Our proposed system can be accessed from smartphone or iPhone that allows students to do practice their Bengali handwriting at anytime and anywhere. Bengali is a multi-stroke input characters with extremely long cursive shaped where it has stroke order variability and stroke direction variability. Due to this structural limitation, recognition speed is a crucial issue to apply traditional online handwriting recognition algorithm for Bengali language learning. In this work, we have adopted hierarchical recognition approach to improve the recognition speed that makes our system adaptable for web-based language learning. We applied writing speed free recognition methodology together with hierarchical recognition algorithm. It ensured the learning of all aged population, especially for children and older national. The experimental results showed that our proposed hierarchical recognition algorithm can provide higher accuracy than traditional multi-stroke recognition algorithm with more writing variability

    Graph theory based model for learning path recommendation

    Learning design, the activity of designing a learning path, can be a complex task, especially for learners. A learning design recommendation system would help self-learners find appropriate learning objects and build efficient learning paths during their learning journey. Educational Data Mining (EDM) has provided an impressive amount of novelties related to learning object recommendation systems. However, most of the solutions proposed thus far do not take into account eventual competency dependencies among learning objects and/or are not designed for large repositories of interdependent learning objects. We propose a model to build a learning design recommendation system based on graph theory.
